NORA
I kept thinking about what Johannes said throughout the night. He left because he loved me? I could remember the week before I stopped hearing from him. He took me out on restaurant, and there he asked me to be his girlfriend. I could remember I laughed then, pointing it out to him that we are only having fun. He laughed as well, I didn't know he actually took it to heart.
So, Johannes really loved me? I thought he was a playboy. I met him from a club where I saw him in the midst of three ladies. He didn't made me think he had stopped womanizing, and I on the other hand was attracted to him. He was very handsome and had sweet words that could sweep a lady off her feet.
When we had our first night together, he was a beast on bed. Since all my time living life to the fullest, no man had ever satisfied me like Johannes. We had it more often that we got tired of using condoms. I was almost falling in love with him when I began to get to know him outside s*x, but I was still confused. I found it hard to be committed. But here I am secretly beating up myself for chased him away.
I woke up in the morning and while I was preparing breakfast I heard a knock at the door. I cleaned my hand and walked up to the door. I saw some cartons on my doorstep. A piece of paper was pasted on the body.
From your Baby's Father to you and him.
I picked it up and look both ways, I didn't see any sign of anybody around. I took the cartons in and shut the door behind me. I opened them by the side of the door and I saw some toys, and bundles of money neatly packed.
My eyes widened as I counted it. They were more than half my annual wage. I was confused, I needed money desperately, yet I didn't want to get anything from Johannes. And then a thought came in, that since he's Liam's father it is his responsibility.
Then I saw a folded paper, I took it out. "Hello Nora. How are you doing? I believe you are doing great. How is Liam? I know if you are reading this you must have gotten the few things I sent over. I'm sorry about last night, I didn't want a fight with you. All I wanted to be in my son's life, and to also be in your life if I could have a chance..."
"I also apologize for not being there for you and my son. But if you would let me, I will love to fix things up and see where I can help. Can you talk over lunch? My contact is behind the paper. Call me after reading this... From Johannes Halvor, your son's father."
"Mom. Why are you smiling?"
I turned and saw Liam standing behind me. His eyes widened as he saw the toys on the floor, "Oh, toy!!!" He rushed at them and picked them up from the ground.
"Let go of them, you don't have to be late for school."
"Oh mommy, please. I just want to play with them a little."
"I will keep them safe for you. Go to the dining table, the toy will be kept safe for you. When you return from school you can play with them as much as you want."
I kept a fallen face for a while, but then he smiled and said, "Okay! After school then. I will tell all my friends the toys I have."
"Okay, but you are not taking anyone to school."
"Why? How will my friends join me to play with them?"
"When your friends come around to visit you, you all can play with them. But, no toys are allowed in school, you get me?" He nodded. "Now go to the dinning. I'm coming behind you."
I typed Johannes number and set a text message to him, thanking him for the gifts. He replied some minutes later and told him I won't be available to meet with him.
We chatted for hours in the evening. I was surprised it was the same Johannes who I had a fight with the previous day. He invited me over for dinner in his family house in the city, that he would come pick me up.
I had heard of the Halvor family and their reputation. I did a background research on them after Liam's medication. They were one of the richest families in Norway, and I was worried I didn't have nice dress to come over for dinner.
I had to use some part of the money Johannes sent over to get to a boutique. I got a blue dress and called Miss Gilly earlier.
"Please, miss. Can you help me watch over Liam? I won't be around in the evening. I will send some toys so he could play with them."
When it some minutes past 5pm I took Liam, packed his dinner and his toys and board a cab to Miss Gilly. He was more happy going there since Miss Gilly's nephew, Toby was his best friend.
When I came back home I saw a Jeep parked outside the compound where my flat was. I had not seen such expensive car in the compound since I rented a flat there. The car honked as I got closer. The door opened and Johannes stepped out.
He wore a long sleeved dark-blue shirt, tucked into a black trouser. His shoe was worth over ten thousand dollars. He took off his eyeglass and smiled at me.
Oh, you're here already!"
"I don't have to be late for my queen."
"Your queen?" I chuckled, "How do I suddenly become your queen?"
"You've always been. I just didn't want to say then, and you also didn't realize it too. Go and get ready, my family will be so excited to see you."
I went in and took some time because I was so nervous. I summoned up courage and got myself in the dress and stepped out from the house.
The Halvor mansion was far in the city, some miles away from where I was. When we got there from the gate I was so shy to step in, but then I gathered up confidence.
At the dining table, Johannes sat beside me. His father came down from the staircase with his mom, Astrid, and his sister Hanna.
"Hello, what's your name?" His father asked.
"I'm Nora. Nora Olsen."
"You are the mother of my grandson, right?" Johannes father asked. "I'm Eriksen. And you're welcome to my home."
"Please tell us about yourself. What do you do?"
"I'm a graduate, and I studied Public Administration. I was a digital marketer for Oris. But for now, I'm looking for a job."
"You're looking for a job?" Astrid asked in hidden contempt. "How much do you earn? What's your highest wage?"
"Astrid!" Eriksen called.
"Sorry, let me ask this. Where are your parents?"
"My father died when I six. And my mother... I can't talk about it her for now."
"Oh, so sorry about that. You never told me..." Johannes said.
"It's fine." I wasn't comfortable anymore in the dining table, I wanted to leave.
"So, your father didn't leave any inherited wealth, or had a saving tied to your name before he died? What kind of family did you come from?"
"Astrid!"
At this point I couldn't take it any longer. "Thank you for the meal. Please can you excuse me
