Chapter 13 - The Moon Child

" Sit down children, I will tell you everything there is that you need to know about," she pointed towards the chairs and the sofa.

"I was converted when I was 29 years old but I met him when I was 450 years old, it was different from the present time, I was a strong vampire back then too, living for 450 years made me strong and I knew well about my gifts, but still, I could not save him from them.," 

" I did not know that vampires could be a mate for a werewolf when I met him I already had peter in my life, he was a vampire too, he was 200 years old, and we spent the majority of the time together, I could not call it love but he was all I had, leaving him and going to Aden was the most difficult decision of my life.

I being a vampire never thought of waiting for something like mate but destiny had different plans for us.,"

She was looking down at the ring she was wearing which looked unique and seemed very old, she then took a sip of her lemon tea and continued to speak ", Times then were different from now, vampires and werewolves were the biggest enemies, they used to slaughter each other in the name of the rivalry, it was not as coordinated or sorted as we can see now.

 He was the alpha to his pack but being my mate made him choose between me or his pack,"

I could see her eyes get teary, I could understand her pain, I understand his also, hell I know it would have been difficult for him to choose any of the options, we all understand the alpha duties but we all know how strong can the mate bond be.

" What did he choose?" sam said keeping my hands in his tightly.

" He said to me, the moon goddess made you my mate, there has to be a reason for it otherwise nothing like this would have happened and chose to stay with me. His younger brother took over his alpha duties and he decided to go rogue with me, we both were treated as an outcast, 

Neither was I accepted in my clan nor was he not allowed to step his foot on his pack land. We had no choice but to survive rogues".

" It was a difficult choice for him more than it would have been for anyone else," she said with a lot of pain in her voice but before we all could say anything she continued turning towards me and looking me into my eyes" you will understand his situation, my child,".

" my name is ...," before I could complete my sentence she took my hands into hers and said ... " no my child, knowing your name will make me empathize with you and I don't want to be sucked into it again, even though it was a long time ago you all will understand the pain of losing a mate," she said.

Then she looked at me and said: " He was a moon born, it was difficult for him because he could not shift till that point but still they chose him as his alpha,

even though he was the most eligible, he was yet to shift, he always felt out of place but they made him feel he was not by choosing him as an Alpha", tears started falling on her cheeks.

I understood what she was saying, I always felt out of place, I know why it was so hard for him.

She got up from her chair and moved behind the library counter.

She took out a box from the drawer below the counter and came and sat back with us.

" Till date I blame myself the most, I consider myself the reason of his demise, he chose me and that's why we could not fight the battle because we had no one on our side, "

She paused for some time and said," It was red moon nite when they first appeared, they said he was the key for the dark lord to enter this world, I don't know what exactly happened that day but it awakened his wolf.," her eyes went wide, she continued to speak" he shifted that night ".

" He was huge, larger than normal wolves, he could jump higher and he certainly was fast. That night was when I saw him writher in pain, on the floor, he was screaming but I did not know what to do, I was 450 years old and knew a lot about wolf transformation but saw nothing like that ever, he was.......,"

she stopped talking and looked at me " you suffered the same pain while transforming right?"

" amm , actually... I did not transform yet," I said turning around to look at Sam, the love in his eyes relaxed me a little bit.

" You didn't, but you are supposed to transform by now," her face looked confused.

"That is weird", she said. 

She went silent and it seemed like she was thinking something.

" Mam, can you please tell us what happened on the blue moon night?" Adam asked with curiosity in his voice.

" After the red moon night I went to both our families, I went to his pack begging them to help us, I was not even heard, and my clan declined to help a werewolf, that was the time I realized that peter loathed me because he being the leader of our clan decided that they had nothing to do with me and Aden".

 " So I decided to fight them with him, standing by his side and dying by his side, and on the blue moon night, we decided to come down here to my guesthouse in Abel valley, I thought no one will be able to find us here but I was wrong they found us and they took us both to that horrifying place they called the setaniaso, it was blood red and there were a lot of people in black robes surrounding a wall in the center of the red castle-like room.",

"I tried to fight, I tried to save him, I did everything in my power but they were too many and too powerful, I could not save him," saying that she went silent for some time.

"so they .. amm... did they ... sacrifice... I mean did they kill him?" adam asked hesitantly.

" no, they did not................

 I did," she said with a small sound not looking at any one of us.

" WHAT? " Sam exclaimed.

" You killed your mate?" Jasper said relatively softer not believing in what he heard.

" He begged me to, he said he didn't want to be a part of anything like that, he said there was no other choice,  he said by killing him I would help him," she started crying saying that.

Seeing an 800-year-old vampire cry was not what we were expecting.

" he said I would free him, I didn't want to but I had to,"  she said 

" His pack could have saved him, they could have helped him had it not been because of me," she then pulled out the locket from that box and handed it over to Sam ", it's his tooth, I kept it with me since then, I know how you feel, please do what I couldn't do that night, don't let her die," she wiped off her tears from her cheeks.

" He will not be alone, we all are going to protect her, she is our luna, I will not let anything happen to her," Adam said shifting in his chair " even if it means lying down our lives for her," he said getting up from his chair "that's what families do".

"I am not letting anyone die," Sam said in his firm alpha tone " that's what families do,".

Sam pulled me out of my chair close to him and hugged me tight, he bent down and gave me a hard kiss, something I was not expecting.

" you are mine, I am not letting anything happen to you, nothing is going to even lay a finger on you," he said.  

I looked up at him and gave him an assuring smile.

" amm mam can you please help us out with the prophecy," I moved closer to her getting out of Sam's grip. He was not willing to let me go.

" after Aden died I wanted my revenge, I researched everything and every place I could get my hand on and came to know that every time they are denied an entry the gate gets stronger and hence the key gets stronger ", she said " it happens every 500 years, I got to know about the stories of the previous key, she was a human ", she said "I don't know under what circumstances were the opening of the door stopped but from what I heard from legend she killed herself too,"  she moved closer to me and said " here let me take a look at those prophecy pictures, they are different every time, every time a moon born dies a new prophecy is made for the next moon born, 500 years before his or her birth", she looked at those pictures and said "  It says one of your parents has to be a werewolf and other is supposed to be an angel",  she looked into my eyes and said " you are stronger than all of us , an angel coming to earth is rarest event and creating a life form is rarest of rarest , you can stop them, I don't want to say this but if no one else can you have to stop the opening of the door," she said holding my hands but before I could say anything I heard sam growl and felt his hand on my shoulders pulling me into him.

" I WILL NOT LET ANYTHING HAPPEN TO YOU, I WILL DIE BEFORE YOU DO", He said in a firm voice.

" But my dad was a human", that was all I could muster out of my mouth.
