The car winds through Mystic Falls toward the café. Damon drives with one hand, the other resting on her thigh—a constant physical anchor through the soul-bond. As he says to Evie. “Smart move. Knowledge is control, and you’re gonna want to feel in control of this.”
The tablet glows in her hands as you scroll. Pregnancy apps load—week-by-week development, nutrition guides, labor preparation videos.
Stefan glanced up from his phone. “Lexi just texted. She’s at the airstrip. Everything’s on schedule, and she says it’s secure.”
A few minutes later, a quiet café came into view, tucked beneath ivy-covered brick walls.
Damon eased into a parking space and looked over at Evie with a warm smile. “Come on, sweetheart. Let’s get you a real meal before we disappear into the sky.”
Evie slipped the tablet into her bag and smiled. “That sounds wonderful.”
As they walked toward the entrance, Damon reached for her hand without thinking. Evie laced her fingers through his, and together they headed inside.
Stefan fell into step beside Elena, watching his brother. ”That’s not like him,” he said whispering to Elena.
Elena smiled. ”No... it’s not.” She glanced toward Damon as he rested a gentle hand against the small of Evie’s back while holding the café door open for her.
“The soul-bond,” she whispered. ”He feels everything she does. The pregnancy... the fear... the exhaustion. He’s carrying it all with her.”
Stefan nodded, unable to look away. For the first time in over a century...Damon looked like he’d finally found home.
The bell above the door chimed as they stepped inside. A waitress looked up from behind the counter and smiled.
"Well, I’ll be...” she laughed. “It’s been a while, Damon."
"Too long,” Damon replied with an easy grin.
She led them to a corner booth and handed out menus. Before she could ask for drink orders, Damon looked at Evie. “And whatever she wants, make it extra protein. She’s eating for three now.”
The waitress blinked before her eyes drifted to Evie and back to Damon. A surprised smile spread across her face. ”Well... congratulations.”
"Thanks,” Damon said, unable to hide the pride in his voice. After Evie placed her order, Damon smiled at the waitress.
Evie blushes and says “thanks to the waitress as well, placing he hand over his on the table.
The waitress’s eyes land on the wedding ring, then back to Damon’s face—seeing the shift in him. The possessiveness. The tenderness. The certainty.
The waitress, genuinely delighted says, “Oh my God, you’re married. Damon Salvatore, married. I never thought I’d see the day.”
Damon lifts your intertwined hands, pressing a kiss to your knuckles—the ring catching the café light. “Neither did I.” His voice carries weight. Truth. This isn’t performance. This is a man who’s found something worth staying for.
As the waitress walked away, she glanced back once more. She’d known Damon for years. She’d seen him charming...Sarcastic...Even moody. But she’d never seen him look this happy.
Stefan watches from across the table, genuinely moved. This is Damon as he could be—not the broken, sarcastic shell, but the man underneath. The one capable of real love.
Elena grins, seeing what Stefan sees.
Stefan watches the interaction, seeing the territorial claim mixed with authentic devotion. The waitress excuses herself to get your order, clearly sensing she’s witnessing something sacred.
Elena leans toward Stefan as she whispers “He’s going to burn the world down to keep her safe.”
Stefan nods and says, “Yeah, heaven forbid if anything should happen to his growing family we need to do everything we can to keep that picture the way it is”
Shortly after the food arrives they dig in and get a call that the plane is loaded and ready for take off in 25 minutes so they have to hurry up and finish.
Evie asks “Can please can we get an omelet to go we can heat it up later and some pie ohh pie yeah”
Damon’s smirk widens—that familiar arrogance mixed with genuine affection. “ Pie. Of course you want pie.”
He catches the waitress’s attention with a snap of his fingers. “We need an omelet to go, and whatever cream pie you have. Make it generous.”
The waitress nods and disappears into the kitchen. Damon pulls her closer, his thumb tracing circles on your hand. “You’re perfect, you know that?”
Outside, the car idles. Stefan leans against the hood, checking his watch. Lexi emerges from the café with your things.
Elena says to Stefan, “Five minutes tops. They’re wrapping up”.
The kitchen door swings open. The waitress returns with a to-go container and a generous slice of chocolate pie in a box.
Waitress says to them all “Safe travels.”
Evie smiles ear to ear to see the chocolate cream pie and says “Ooooo yeah I was afraid it was gonna be peach pie yuck thank you, so much”
They all climb into the car and are back at the tarmac in less than 15 mins. The private jet gleams on the tarmac, its engines already humming. A crew member stands at the stairs, nodding as the group approaches.
Crew Member: says, “Welcome aboard. We’re ready for immediate departure once you’re settled”.
Damon guides her up the stairs, his hand never leaving the small of her back. The interior is luxurious—cream leather seats, soft lighting, a cabin designed for comfort.
Damon gestures to a reclined seat with extra pillows as he says, “This one’s yours. Maximum comfort for the next hour.”
Stefan stows luggage in the overhead compartment while Lexi arranges blankets and pillows around you.
Lexi ever present starts fluffing a pillow behind her head and asks “Better?”
Evie looks at everyone fussing over her and says “I’m not that fragile yet guys really” she chuckles at their over protectiveness and smiles as she settles in asking Lexi to tell her what she knows about what their new home will look like as Damon says goodbye to his brother
Damon pulls Stefan aside near the cockpit, lowering his voice. “Brother thank you and keep Klaus occupied. Make him think we’re still in the States. Feed him false leads, anything to buy us time.”
Stefan nods, gripping his brother’s shoulder. “I will. And Damon? Take care of her. Of them.” Their eyes meet—a moment of genuine brotherhood beneath centuries of tension.
“With my life.” Damon responds solemnly.
For a long moment, neither brother spoke.
The years between them seemed to disappear beneath the roar of the waiting jet. More than a century of anger, betrayal, forgiveness, and second chances hung in the silence.
Stefan was the first to move. He stepped forward and pulled Damon into a hug.
Damon hesitated only a heartbeat before returning it, ”I’m proud of you,” Stefan said quietly.
Damon let out a soft chuckle. ”Don’t start getting sentimental on me now.”
Stephen shakes his head but continues anyway, ”I’m serious. "They pulled apart, and Stefan met his brother’s eyes.
“I’ve watched you carry guilt for longer than anyone should. You’ve spent years believing you didn’t deserve a future like this.”
Damon glanced toward the aircraft, knowing Evie was already inside waiting for him. “I guess she proved me wrong.”
Stefan smiled. “Yeah... she did.”
Another quiet moment passed before Damon extended his hand. Stefan looked at it, rolled his eyes, and ignored it completely, pulling him into one last quick hug instead.
“You’ll always be my brother,” he said.
Damon swallowed hard before giving a small nod. ”And you’ll always be mine.”
Behind them, Elena watched with a warm smile but said nothing, giving them the moment they both deserved.
A member of the flight crew approached respectfully. ”Mr. Salvatore, we’re ready for departure.”
Damon took one last look at his brother. ”I’ll see you soon.”
Stefan nodded. ”You’d better.”
With one final smile, Damon turned and walked toward the waiting jet, never looking back—not because he was leaving his past behind, but because, for the first time in over a century, he was finally walking toward the future he’d always believed was beyond his reach.
As Damon reached the bottom of the stairs leading to the jet, he stopped. For the first time since arriving at the airport, he looked back.
Beyond the runway, Mystic Falls stretched across the horizon, peaceful beneath the afternoon sun. It was strange.
This little town had been the center of his entire existence for over a century. It was where he’d fallen in love for the first time... where he’d lost everything... where he’d become a vampire... where he’d buried friends and enemies alike.
It was where he’d spent decades convinced happiness was something meant for everyone but him. He thought of his mother... of Lexi... of Alaric... of Bonnie... of Caroline... of Elena... and of Stefan.
Most of all, he thought about the countless years he’d wasted believing he was beyond redemption.
A slow smile tugged at the corner of his mouth. ”I guess you finally got it right,” he murmured.
Not because Mystic Falls had changed...But because it had brought Evie into his life.
It had given him a family. A future. A reason to believe tomorrow could be better than yesterday.
The roar of the engines grew louder as the crew prepared for departure. Damon took one last breath of Virginia air before turning toward the aircraft.
"I’m not saying goodbye," he whispered softly. ”I’ll always come home.”
Then, with a quiet confidence he’d never known before, he climbed the stairs and stepped through the cabin door, leaving behind the ghosts of his past and walking toward the life he had once believed he’d never deserve.
He turns back toward you as the jet begins accelerating down the runway.
The moment Damon stepped through the cabin door, a member of the flight crew greeted him with a warm smile. "Welcome aboard, Mr. Salvatore.”
He nodded politely, his eyes instinctively scanning the cabin. “Everything set?”
“Yes, sir. The captain just finished his final checks. We should be departing for Richmond within the next few minutes. Your international crew has already been notified of your arrival, and everything is on schedule for your connection to New Zealand.”
“Any delays expected?” Damon asks.
“None at the moment, sir. The weather is clear, and we should arrive in Richmond on schedule.”
Damon gives a satisfied nod. ”Good.”
The flight attendant hesitated for a moment before smiling. ”And congratulations, sir.”
A faint look of surprise crossed his face. ”Thank you."
She laughed softly. ”It’s not every day we see someone smile the way you have since you boarded.”
Damon glanced toward the front of the cabin where Evie was waiting. ”I’ve got a lot to smile about."
The attendant followed his gaze and smiled knowingly before stepping aside. “Well, we’ll take good care of all of you.”
Damon makes it clear as if a threat, ”I know you will.” He turns back toward Evie and walks to her side.
As she returned to her duties, Damon slowly made his way down the aisle.
His eyes found Evie almost immediately. She sat by the window with one hand resting protectively over her stomach, watching the ground crew prepare the aircraft for departure.
For a moment, Damon simply stood there. Everything he’d spent more than a century searching for was sitting right in front of him.
The soft lighting reflected off polished wood cabinetry, while wide leather seats offered more comfort than most people ever experienced on a commercial flight. Everything about the aircraft spoke of quiet luxury, yet none of it held his attention for long
Outside:
Stephen looks at Elena He shakes his head with a quiet smile and says, "After everything we’ve been through...”
Elena slips her hand into his. “He found exactly what he’d been searching for.”
Stefan nods. “Yeah... he did.”
