Chapter 18

Lukas

Today is Melissa's 7th Birthday and our 9th wedding anniversary. We have planned a big party for her. Mason had to go to work as an emergency came up. One of the hotels in the town had caught fire and he had to rush. I was busy getting everything ready when Melissa came up to me and said "dada ... daddy's friends have come outside". "Tell them I will be there in a minute" I said and she ran to the door. I placed the cake on the table and walked to the door "Hi Jackson" I said and he looked at me with a look I never wanted to see ever. "What... what is it?" I asked. "Mason" was all that I heard him say and I felt my legs go weak. "Where ... where is he" I asked in a trembling voice. "At the hospital" and before he could say anything else I carried Melissa and was running to our truck. I rushed in the hospital and went straight to the emergency ward. Stacy one of my doctors was handling the case. 

"Stacy... how is he?" I asked as I was not able to see Mason since the curtain was pulled. "I'm sorry Lukas" she said I my hands and body started shivering. I walked slowly to the bed and moved the curtain to the side, he had more than 80% burns all over his body and my heart broke to pieces , my body shook just thinking of the pain he would have gone through. "Mason" I screamed crying on his lifeless body, this was just a horrible nightmare.. I was hoping Mason would just wake me and kiss my head saying .. "It's okay baby I'm here.. I'm right here with you" but that never happened. I could not believe this.. how ... everything was so good this morning.. everything was perfect. Mason had planned the party so perfectly like he used to plan all other parties. I placed my hand on his now burnt face and my fingers were trembling. Mason you... you can't leave me... I cried. "Wake up Mason, I need you ... wake up babe ... Melissa and I baked a surprise cake for you... please wake up. ... please Mason..." I begged and cried that he hears me, that he wakes up. "Dada" I heard a small voice call and without looking I knew who it was. Please take her outside I asked Stacy and she did as I asked. I felt my body going cold, like everything that existed in my world was now dead. I tried to be strong for Melissa but the tears would not stop. I could not pull my self away from Mason. I just could not accept it that he had left us...

FEW HOURS BEFORE...

Mason

"Babe I need to rush to the fire station an emergency has come up" I said kissing Lukas on his lips before rushing out the door. "Be back soon" I heard him call. "I will, I love you" I said before closing the door behind me. Today was a big day for Melissa and Us. I had planned a very big party for all of us. 

I quickly briefed the men and we changed into the suit before getting into the fire truck. It was a huge fire and we managed to get all the guest of the hotel out, I was checking the last room when I heard a young girl scream in fear. I saw a cupboard at the end of the room and rushed towards it to see the little girl hiding there. She looked as old as Melissa, I quickly picked her and was rushing to the door when the frame collapsed and the fire became wild. I saw a window and rushed towards it, opening the glass. I called my men who stood below ready to catch the child. I told her I was going to let go of her and the men below would catch. She was scared and was not letting go off me. I knew we did not have much time as everything was just falling and burning. Without wasting more time I pulled her hands from around my neck and let go off her. I saw her land safely when I felt the wooden flooring break. I tried to jump out the window but the ceiling collapsed on me taking me down with the flooring straight into the fire. I knew it was my time so the only thing I could do at that time was close my eyes and imagine my beautiful angel my husband my Lukas and our darling child Melissa. I felt my skin burn and the smell of my flesh melting was filling my nose, I could not scream or call for help because of the pain that I was going through. All I wanted to do was go back home, hold Lukas in my arms, kiss him like I never kissed him before and keep telling him how much I Love Him. 

I felt a few arms pull me from the flame before darkness took over and I felt my heart beat slowly dying. "Lukas" was the last word that left my lips before I felt nothing at all....

15 Years Later...

Lukas

"Melissa are you ready baby girl" I called .. she was leaving to go to the city for further studies. "Yes Dada.. I'm ready" she said walking down with her bag. "I'm gonna miss you Dada" she said with a sad smile. "I'm gonna miss you too baby girl" I said kissing her forehead before picking her bag and putting it in her car. She waved good bye as the car pulled away from the drive way.

After Mason's death, Melissa was the only reason why I remained sane. I knew I had to take care of her, that is something Mason would want me to do. I turned around and saw Mason standing near the couch with his hands spread out for me. I walked into his arms and felt his warmth surround and comfort me. Mason must have past away but I always feel his presence near me, keeping me safe, taking care of me. I never told anyone because they would not understand but Mason has and will always live in my heart. "I Love You Lukas" I heard Mason whisper in my ears. "I LOVE YOU MASON" I said with tears rolling down my cheeks...

LOVE NEVER DIES EVEN WHEN THE ONE YOU LOVE HAS MOVED ON TO THE NEXT LIFE.
