Torn loyalties

### Episode 8: Torn Loyalties Aria sat beside Luca in the SUV, her hand resting on his chest to ensure he was still breathing. Nico drove like a man possessed, the tires squealing as they tore through the city streets. The moonlight illuminated Luca’s pale face, and Aria could see how much blood he had lost. They needed help, and fast. “Nico, we need to get him to a safehouse,” Aria said, her voice trembling. “He’s losing too much blood.” Nico’s eyes flicked to the rearview mirror, his jaw tight. “I know a place. But we’ve got more problems than just Luca. Matteo’s going to come after us, and he’ll bring hell with him.” Aria’s heart sank. Matteo was more dangerous than she had ever imagined. Betrayed by someone who shared Luca’s blood, someone who knew their every move—it made them vulnerable in ways she hadn’t anticipated. --- Nico made a sharp turn into a narrow alley, the car bouncing over the uneven pavement. They came to a stop outside an old, abandoned building, and Nico motioned for Aria to help him carry Luca inside. Together, they half-carried, half-dragged him into the dimly lit space, laying him gently on an old couch. Aria ripped open Luca’s shirt, her fingers trembling as she assessed the wound. It was bad—too bad for her limited medical knowledge to handle. “We need a doctor,” she muttered, her voice filled with panic. Nico paced the room, running a hand through his hair. “Calling a doctor risks exposure. Matteo could have people everywhere.” Aria’s gaze snapped to Nico, her eyes blazing with determination. “If we don’t do something, Luca’s going to die.” Nico hesitated for a moment before pulling out his phone. “I know someone. But it’s risky.” --- Minutes later, the door to the safehouse creaked open, and a figure stepped inside. Aria didn’t recognize the man—a rugged-looking guy in his late 30s, with a cigarette dangling from his lips. “This is Viktor,” Nico said, introducing him. “He’s… unconventional, but he’s discreet.” Viktor knelt beside Luca, quickly assessing the wound. Without a word, he pulled out a small kit from his bag and got to work. Aria watched nervously as Viktor stitched up Luca’s wound, his hands steady and precise. Every second felt like an eternity. Finally, Viktor leaned back, wiping the sweat from his brow. “He’s stable—for now. But he’ll need rest. Lots of it.” Aria breathed a sigh of relief, though she knew the battle was far from over. --- As Luca lay unconscious, recovering from his injuries, Aria’s mind raced. Matteo was still out there, plotting his next move. She knew he wouldn’t stop until he had Luca out of the picture for good. And with his insider knowledge, he could easily dismantle everything they had built. “We can’t just sit here,” Aria said, pacing the room. “Matteo’s coming for us. We need to strike first.” Nico looked up from his phone, his expression grim. “You’re right. I’ve already put feelers out, but it’s not just Matteo we have to worry about. Word is, he’s teamed up with a rival family. They’re planning something big.” Aria clenched her fists. It wasn’t just a personal vendetta anymore—this was about power, control, and survival. If Matteo had joined forces with a rival mafia family, they were in more danger than she’d imagined. As the night wore on, Aria found herself alone with Luca. She sat beside him, watching the steady rise and fall of his chest. Her heart ached as she thought about everything they had been through together—the secrets, the betrayals, and now this. She gently brushed a strand of hair from his forehead, her fingers lingering on his skin. Despite everything, she couldn’t imagine her life without him. He had always been her strength, her protector. But now, with the tables turned, it was her turn to fight for him. “Stay with me, Luca,” she whispered, her voice barely audible. “I can’t do this without you.” Just as Aria stood to leave the room, her phone buzzed with a new message. She glanced at the screen and felt a cold chill run down her spine. The message was from Matteo. And it was a single sentence: *“You’ve made the wrong choice, Aria. Now, it’s your turn to lose everything.”* Aria’s blood ran cold as she stared at the message, realizing that the next phase of Matteo’s plan had already begun. But what did he mean? What was he planning to take from her? With Luca unconscious and their enemies closing in, Aria knew time was running out. The only question now was—would she survive the storm that was coming?
