**Episode 10: Twisted Loyalties** The smell of burnt debris still lingered in the air, and the distant crackle of the dying fire provided a haunting backdrop to the chaos that had just unfolded. Aria's heart pounded in her chest as Matteo, covered in ash and blood, staggered out of the wreckage. His eyes were cold, furious, and unyielding—a man who had just survived death itself and was now thirsting for retribution. Aria’s body screamed at her to move, to run, but she was frozen. This was not how it was supposed to end. The plan had been flawless, or so she thought. She had underestimated Matteo—again. Behind her, Nico was already reacting. He pulled out his gun, but Matteo was faster. With a fluid motion that belied the pain he must have been in, Matteo raised his own weapon, firing off two shots. The bullets whizzed past Aria, hitting Nico square in the chest. Time seemed to slow down as she watched him collapse, clutching his wound, gasping for air. “No!” Aria screamed, her voice breaking the silence of the night. She ran to Nico’s side, pressing her hands against his bleeding chest, trying desperately to stop the flow of blood. Her mind raced. They had come so far, survived so much, and now this? Matteo limped toward them, his gun still pointed at Aria. His face was twisted with rage, but there was something else there, something darker—satisfaction. He enjoyed this. He enjoyed watching her break. “You really thought you could take me down that easily, didn’t you?” Matteo spat, his voice laced with venom. “You should’ve known better, Aria. You’re playing a game you’ll never win.” Aria's heart pounded as she glared up at him. “I’ll never stop,” she hissed, her hands shaking. “I will end you, Matteo.” Matteo chuckled, a cruel smile playing on his lips. “You’re welcome to try.” --- **A Dark Reunion** Suddenly, the sound of approaching footsteps interrupted the tense standoff. Several figures emerged from the shadows, their faces obscured by the darkness. Aria’s stomach dropped as she recognized them—Matteo’s men, loyal to him despite everything. She had hoped they were dead in the explosion, but they had survived, just like their leader. One of them, a tall man with a scar running down his face, stepped forward, glaring at Aria with undisguised hatred. “Boss, what do you want us to do with them?” he asked, his voice gravelly. Matteo considered this for a moment, his eyes never leaving Aria’s. “Leave the girl. We’ll deal with her later. But take Nico. He’s more useful to me alive.” Aria’s breath caught in her throat. “No! You can’t—” But it was too late. Two of Matteo’s men grabbed Nico by the arms, hauling him to his feet. He groaned in pain but didn’t resist. He was too weak. “Don’t worry, Aria,” Matteo said, his voice dripping with mockery. “I won’t kill him. Yet.” Aria’s mind raced. She couldn’t let them take Nico. He was the only person left she could trust, the only one who had stood by her side through everything. She had to do something, but what? Before she could act, Matteo’s men were already dragging Nico away. Matteo gave her one last, cold look before turning to leave. “This is far from over, Aria,” he said, his voice carrying through the night. “Remember that.” --- **A Desperate Move** As soon as they were gone, Aria collapsed to the ground, her body trembling with fear and frustration. How had everything gone so wrong? She had been so close to ending this nightmare, but now Matteo had the upper hand again, and Nico’s life hung in the balance. She couldn’t afford to waste any more time. Aria forced herself to stand, wiping the blood from her hands. There had to be a way to turn this around, to save Nico and stop Matteo once and for all. But she couldn’t do it alone. Taking a deep breath, Aria pulled out her phone and dialed a number she hadn’t used in years. It rang twice before a deep voice answered. “Who is this?” the voice demanded. “It’s Aria,” she said, her voice shaking. “I need your help.” There was a long pause on the other end of the line. “Aria? After all this time… Why should I help you?” “Because Matteo’s alive,” she said, her voice hardening. “And if you don’t help me stop him, he’s going to destroy everything. Including you.” The man on the other end of the line let out a low growl. “Meet me at the old pier. We’ll talk.” --- **The Pier** The night was thick with tension as Aria made her way to the old pier. She hadn’t been here in years, not since she and Luca had first met the man she was about to see. He was dangerous, ruthless, and unpredictable—but he was also the only person left who might be able to help her. When she arrived, the man was already there, leaning against a rusted metal railing, his face obscured by the shadows. “Aria,” he said, his voice low and menacing. “It’s been a long time.” Aria swallowed hard. “Kane.” Kane was a former associate of Luca’s, a man who had built his own criminal empire in the years since they had parted ways. He was known for being brutal, but he was also smart—and right now, Aria needed someone who could outsmart Matteo. “I heard about Luca,” Kane said, his tone neutral. “Tough break. But you? Still alive. Impressive.” Aria’s jaw tightened. “I didn’t come here to reminisce. I need your help.” Kane chuckled, stepping out of the shadows. His dark eyes gleamed with interest. “Help, huh? And what makes you think I’d be willing to help you, after everything?” Aria took a deep breath. This was it. Her last chance. “Because Matteo is coming for all of us. He doesn’t care who he has to destroy to get what he wants. And if we don’t stop him, we’re all dead. You, me, Luca’s empire—it’s all gone.” Kane raised an eyebrow, his lips curling into a smirk. “You always were a good negotiator, Aria. Fine. I’ll help you. But this won’t be easy. Matteo’s got a lot of resources, and if he’s survived this long, it means he’s not going to go down without a fight.” Aria nodded. “I know. But I don’t care how dangerous it gets. We end this. Once and for all.” Kane’s smirk widened. “Good. Then let’s get to work.” --- **A New Alliance** With Kane now on her side, Aria knew they had a chance. But even with his resources, taking down Matteo wouldn’t be easy. They had to be smarter, faster, and more ruthless than he was. As they began planning their next move, Aria couldn’t help but feel a sense of unease. She was stepping deeper into the underworld than she ever had before, and there was no guarantee she’d make it out alive. But for Nico’s sake, for Luca’s legacy, and for her own survival—she had no choice. The game had changed. And this time, she was going to make sure Matteo didn’t win. --- *To be continued…*
