Distracted by the CEO

Maya directed him through every block before they reached her apartment. She loved the way carrying her, even through the building’s stairs, seemed like such a non–effort to him. Or maybe what she loved the most was the feel of his chest. She had to hold firmly to the nape of his neck before she let herself relax into him and God, was he sturdy. The grey shirt he had on didn’t do much justice to how well built he was. She felt at least 4 packs and that was just half of his upper trunk. She thought of feeling the rest but she couldn’t. He would think of her as a pervert and she couldn’t risk that. She had done enough damage to her reputation in one day and she was only 9 hours gone through the day. Her eyes darts to his biceps and those— those were unsurprisingly huge too. “Maya—“ He called her name and just then her mind jolted back to the present. “I believe this should be your apartment, no?” He had this sinful grin on his face. Seeming like he could already tell the unsavory thoughts she was having. f**k, now he must think she’s a degenerate. Embarrassment washes all over her and she jerks back to her feet. “Um yeah— this…this is my apartment” She leaves an awkward silence and says “I guess you can leave now”. The words came out much differently than she wanted. He flinched his head backwards and placed his arms in a folded position. “Didn’t we agree I’d bring you up here to switch and then I’ll take you to the bakery?” “The groceries are still downstairs and I just thought you’d need an extra hand carrying them once more but if me leaving is what you want..,I’ll do that ” he added, although every muscle in him hesitated. She didn’t want him to leave. In fact, she wanted to spend even more time with him, bailing on meeting with her mom in the bakery if that’s what it took. When he saw she wasn’t saying anything to alter his latter statement, he felt defeated and turned to leave. Her mind panicked and she stood in front of him. Her shoes still in his hands between all of these. She must have startled him. And now he was looking at her so carefully, like he was trying to understand what was really going on in her mind. He looked at her, then to the door of her apartment, back to her. “Ahh”. He exclaimed, more to himself than to her. “I think I get what’s happening now. Sunshine, are you ashamed to let me into your home?” Ugh, she hated that he could read her mind. She felt bad because he’d been so helpful to her and instead of thanking him and welcoming him in, she was being ungrateful. But she couldn’t let him in. Her living room was a mess from yesterday’s hurrying. Not just her living room but every other corner of her apartment. That happens when you’ve been living alone for a long while now without any sign of visitors. He attempts to cup her face but snaps his hand back. “Do you want me to wait out here for you while you change?” Maya instantly wanted to say yes but she was too considerate to ask that of him, he had already sacrificed so much of his time just for her. As if reading her mind once again, he adds “I don’t mind waiting for you cupcake” Maya found it so difficult to find anything suitable to change into. She wanted to have her bath first before changing but she was too afraid he’d get upset if she wasted too much time and leave. How much patience could he really have. She takes a glimpse of herself in the mirror and is completely horrified by how unkept she looked. All this while she was talking to him, she was looking like this? She internalizes every anxious thought that came to her head and quickly fixes up her hair to go back to looking decent. She does her usual “ i didn’t put on make up” make up look which worked for her 99% of time. She throws on the only clean shirt she has, her Favourite shorts and a flat pair of slippers. “I don’t care what Ednardo says. We’re taking back what belongs to us and if he still refuses, we fight. The dirty way.” Whatever that meant couldn’t have been good at all. She was striding through the stairs when she heard him with his phone aggressively pressed to his ears. His fingers were curled up together and the aura around him changed. He didn’t look like the sweet stranger she met some hours ago. Whoever this was, seemed…different. “Is dad—“, his shoulders stiffened and he arch’s his back slightly sideways. “I’ll call you back later”, he didn’t bother to receive a reply before hanging up. He fell silent, the phone still clutched in his ear as if he could feel her presence in the air. He didn't turn. “Are you done?” he asked, his voice strained, obviously grasping for his composure in preparation for meeting her. She stepped closer. There was an edge in his eyes that made her breath hitch, a sharpness she was seeing for the first time.
