Sophie's POV:
When I opened my eyes, all I could see was the stark white ceiling of a hospital room.
A nurse's relieved voice sounded beside me.
"Thank goodness you're finally awake. Your family has been worried sick. Even with his mobility issues, he's barely left your bedside."
Just then, the ward door swung open.
A thin figure in a wheelchair appeared.
Jake Warner.
He was Ethan's older brother.
My throat tightened.
"Jake..."
My voice trembled as I called his name.
Jake let out a quiet sigh before gently tucking the blanket around me.
"Sophie, what happened with Ethan is entirely his fault," he said softly. "I'll talk to him. Don't worry about anything right now. The most important thing is that you recover."
I nodded obediently and closed my eyes.
Two days later, Jake returned to the hospital carrying a thick file.
His expression was unusually grim.
"Sophie, there's something you need to see."
Three months ago, on the night Ethan disappeared, Farrah had been driving a defective vehicle from the repair shop.
She was the one who hit him.
She was the reason he lost his memory.
As I flipped through the investigation reports, my heart gradually sank.
So this was the "savior" Ethan had spent his entire previous life protecting?
How ironic.
Still, it had nothing to do with me anymore.
Unfortunately, Farrah somehow learned about the investigation.
The next day, she showed up at my hospital room.
The moment she walked in, tears were already streaming down her face.
"I didn't do it on purpose!" she cried. "It was dark that night, and I was terrified I'd go to prison. I never imagined he'd lose his memory. That's why I brought him home with me."
She paused before adding, "But Ethan loves me now."
At that moment, a familiar figure appeared in the doorway.
It was Ethan.
The instant he saw Farrah standing there with tear-stained cheeks, his expression darkened.
Without hesitation, he stepped forward and pulled her behind him protectively.
Then he looked at me.
His eyes were filled with disgust.
"So this is what you've been doing behind my back."
His voice was cold enough to freeze the air.
"You called off our engagement in front of everyone, acting like you didn't care anymore. Meanwhile, you've been secretly investigating Farrah, trying to drive us apart."
A mocking smile tugged at his lips.
"You're such a hypocrite, Sophie."
Farrah clutched his sleeve.
"Ethan..."
But he simply squeezed her hand reassuringly.
"Don't worry."
Then he turned back to me.
"Farrah and I are getting engaged soon. You've spent so many years obsessing over me. Try not to be too heartbroken when the news becomes official."
For a moment, the room fell completely silent.
Then I laughed.
A small, helpless laugh.
"There is no need for you to feel disgusted by me," I said calmly. "I don't care who you love. My only wish is for the two of you to stay as far away from me as possible."
The contempt in his eyes remained unchanged.
Looking at him, I could barely reconcile the man before me with the boy who had once loved me with his entire heart.
Perhaps the Ethan I knew had already disappeared long ago.
Not long afterward, a torrential rainstorm swept across the city.
As I left the hospital, icy rain drenched me within seconds.
Water streamed down my face.
Whether it was rain or tears, even I couldn't tell anymore.
My chest felt so tight that I could barely breathe.
Then, without warning, a powerful hand clamped over my mouth and nose.
Before I could react, I was dragged backward.
The world spun violently around me.
And the next second, I was thrown into a waiting car.
