With Karma and Dendup taking care of our horses and bags, all I have to do is sit tight. They’ve secured me a spot in the corner of the boat. As it turns out, even “sitting tight” is quite an ordeal. My hands clasp around the side pole of the boat. I hold on with all my strength, but I’m no match for this force of nature. The fast-moving current beats merciless on the side of our vessel. I’m tossed between our solid leather bags and the jagged wooden frame of the boat. Cold sweat beads on my forehead. My stomach rises with our vessel on the waves of the water.
