Chapter 7

I woke up to the sound of my alarm clock. It was about 9 in the morning. I don’t know what time I finally fell asleep, but it was late. I was tired. I got my coffee cup and made my way to the bathroom. After I peed and brushed my teeth, I headed downstairs. I made myself a fresh pot of coffee, pulled some bacon and eggs out to make for breakfast. I made breakfast, and Dad came through the front door just as I was finished. He looked tired. I gave him a small smile and said, “Good morning!” He smiled back and nodded. He said he was going upstairs to sleep; he hadn’t been to bed all night. I convinced him to eat some breakfast before going to bed. I let him know I had to work but would see him later. I finished breakfast and two cups of coffee. I cleaned up and headed back upstairs. I took a shower and got ready for my shift. I went to pick up Crystal at 12. It was a 30-minute drive to the coffee shop where we worked. She groaned when she got in the car. “ Crystal: “I am never drinking again!” she declared. I smiled. “Yeah, right”, I said. I knew her better than that. Crystal: “I feel like I got run over by a truck!” Me: “If that truck’s name was Jason, I bet!” I laughed out loud. Crystal knew she couldn’t respond; Eliza was right, that truck was Jason. He rocked her world last night, but she was sore today. The drive was quiet, and Crystal took some aspirin to help with the soreness. Their shift was short today, but it was something both looked forward to. They both loved coffee and working at the coffee shop, where they got an endless supply for free. About an hour into their shift, someone walked in, and it made Eliza’s stomach uneasy. She turned around, and there was Ryan. He looked at her like he was a man on a mission, but also smirking. How did he know she worked here? She hadn’t seen him in here before? Her face turned various shades of pink, and she averted her eyes. She felt a mix of arousal and confusion, along with her usual discomfort around him. What was wrong with her? Why was her body betraying her? It was almost time for me to go into heat; it must be that. Just then, she swore she heard a low growl. She looked up, and he was staring at her while inhaling deeply. Oh my god! He can smell my arousal. Now her face was bright red, and she quickly made her way to the bathroom. The thing about shifters was that we had an excellent sense of smell. If someone was aroused, you could smell it. She was mortified that she didn’t have better control over her body. This wasn’t like her. Her wolf was quiet but tense. Did she want him, too? Was this her? She wasn’t sure. She went to the bathroom, splashed some water on her face, and then headed back to the counter. She tried to avoid him. But within a few seconds, there he was standing at the counter. Ryan: “Are you going to serve us or just stand there staring at me?” He smirked. She was stunned and looked around. He was with another guy his age that she didn’t recognize, and a girl. She felt a twinge of jealousy but quickly dismissed it. She nodded and said, “Yes, of course, sorry, I will be right over.” She headed over to their table. He was already back in his seat. The girl was with the other guy. They gave her their order, and he was staring at her the entire time. It made her so uncomfortable. She looked at him briefly to get his order; her face was various shades of pink. She immediately averted her eyes once she had his order. She headed back to the counter to make their order. Once she had everything, she headed back to drop their order off and turned to quickly leave. She tried to avoid them the rest of the time they were there. Every so often, she would look their way, and there Ryan was staring at her. Crystal: “Why is he eye f*****g you?” Me: “Um, what?” Crystal: “Oh, come on, Liza. You can’t tell me you don’t see Ryan staring you down like you are the last meal on this earth?” she sneered. Smiling but serious. Me: “I have no idea, but it is embarrassing.” Crystal: “Did something happen last night? You were talking to him. Oh my god, did you?” Me: “What? NO! You know me better than that.” I couldn’t help but hide my pink face again! I hadn’t told her the full truth, but now, it looks like I don’t have a choice. I knew he could hear us, so I shook my head and told her, “We can talk later,” and glanced at him. She knew he was listening, too, so she dropped it. I thought I had successfully avoided him, but just as I went to turn and head back to the counter, I ran right into him again. Me: “Excuse me!” Ryan: “It’s ok, I don’t mind.” He smiled with some other emotion I couldn’t quite put into words. Me: “I have to get to work. Is there something you need?” Ryan: “You.” Me: “What?” Ryan: “No, seriously. I want to get to know you. I apologize; Maybe I came on too strong the other night. Let me make it up to you. Let’s go out tonight. I know the perfect place to grab a bite. My treat.” I knew I should have said no, right then and there, but part of me was curious. Why me? I hesitated. Finally, I gave in. Me: “Ok, but only if you promise to keep your hands to yourself.” I pointed at his hands. Ryan: He laughed so loud, “I promise. It’s a date.” Me: “No, it’s not a date.” Ryan: “Whatever you say. I will pick you up at 6:30.” Me: “Wait, you don’t know where I live.” Ryan: “Yes, I do.” What did I just do? My face was red now. I turned and finished up my duties before clocking off. Crystal and I were headed toward the car. We got in. Me: “I am going to dinner with Ryan.”, I managed to whisper. Crystal: “What! I knew it; something happened.” I told her “No,” but explained what had happened. Her mouth was wide open. Crystal: “You can’t be serious! You're going to finally get laid!” She laughed out loud. Me: “No, I am absolutely not! Just because I agreed to go to dinner does not mean I agreed to that. I am saving myself for my fated mate. That isn’t a bad thing.” Crystal just laughed and rolled her eyes. We eventually got home; I dropped her off first, then headed to my house. My head was spinning. What was going on with me? I had been through many heats. I was great at staying in a cold shower pretty much the whole time and avoiding any wolf. It was part of what enabled me to not “have a little fun” as Crystal did. She wasn’t about to “suffer,” as she referred to it. She had an “itch” to scratch, and she did. Sure, I had maybe explored on my own a time or two, but I never gave a single guy a second look. What was I even going to wear? Why did I say yes? This was going to be a disaster. Ryan’s POV Walking into the coffee shop, I hadn’t expected to see her. When I did, I was surprised. I had looked into her, of course. Even followed her home and saw her little swim last night. f**k was that hard not to take her right then. She didn’t even realize I was there. Then, all of a sudden I smelled her arousal. As soon as it hit, I couldn’t help the low growl that escaped my throat. It was intoxicating. Something she was denying me, but soon, it would be mine. She must have realized or heard the growl, and she ran. I took my seat, waiting for her to emerge. As soon as she did, I was there. After watching her for a while, my friends were ready to go. I would have stayed, but they were my ride. I nodded, and we got up to leave. I went to pay while they went to the car. Next thing I know, she’s bumping into me again. My nose fills with her scent, lavender and honey. My wolf stirs, hungry, and my c**k twitches. I couldn’t believe she said yes. All I could think about was getting that sweet little p***y. I couldn't care less if she wanted more; more wasn’t my thing. She was nothing more than something for me to possess. I possessed many things. The moment she turned me down was the moment she became my obsession. I couldn’t wait to destroy her.
