Jadea
At Anika's request, I wore my dress for the entire day.
After our reunion in the meadow, I'd made my rounds greeting everyone. All of them overjoyed to have me back safe and well.
The kids swept me to Ty's where they old me about everything I missed as we played with their trinkets they'd gotten for Easter. At lunchtime, I was able to sneak away with Adam onto the side porch. I didn't know how he snuck out the hat, or how he'd known what color to wear to match me—perhaps it was just coincidence—but I was obsessed.
And he knew it.
Backing me against the railing, my heart beat quickening as he peered at me from under the brim of his hat. I couldn't explain why it made me go absolutely feral—
"Momma!" Anika yelled from inside the house. I could hear her feet pattering around the house as she searched for me.
Smirking, Adam and I leaned in, knowing we would be caught soon. Fingers gripping my waist, he drug us together.
"Momma!" Aidan called next, getting closer to finding us.
Tipping his hat back, I captured his lips in a slow, drugging kiss.
"Daddy!" Anika scolded when she finally found us. "You cannot hog her!"
Aidan's hand grabbed mine and pulled with surprising strength, dislodging me from my perch and pulling me back toward the house. Pursing my lips, I tried not to laugh. Our amused gazes caught, a small grin pulling at Adam's mouth. "She's our momma," Aidan stated.
"And she's my wife," Adam growled back, a smile splitting his face as he took off after Aidan, tickling him as he chased him inside. His shrieks of laughter filling the spaces.
We ate and then settled down in the living room, a kid tucked under each arm. As we started watching a movie, all three of us nodded off.
Adam woke us up sometime after, and the race started again. The kids re-energized. Games and puzzles were brought out. By the time dinner rolled around, the living room and dining room were a disaster. With some assistance, we got it all cleaned up. Dinner was a private affair with Adam, Caden, Ty and the kids. Though, it wasn't any calmer. The kids couldn't stop their animated chatter, or need to have my attention. Which, was perfectly fine with me. Their innocent, joyous souls helped heal some of the lingering hurts within my heart.
They were amazing and I loved them dearly.
Once dinner was wrapped up, we packed the kids' things and moved them back into our cabin. They were ecstatic to be back with us. No one was better than mom and dad.
After changing into pajamas, I sat with them in their shared room and read several stories until they fell asleep. Then, I met Adam and Caden in the living room. There was a couch and love seat set placed around a small fireplace. A large, decorative rug sat before it. Over the mantle hung a small TV. The kitchen and dining room connected to the living room in one wide open layout.
Adam and Caden sat on opposite ends of the couch, conversing easily. When they spotted me, Adam patted the space between them.
"So, what did Ty say?" I asked, anxious to know.
"He believes it will be beneficial to have more wolves here until Keb is caught," Caden stated.
"Did you mention ...?"
"No. I wasn't sure..."
Nodding understandingly, I said, "I just don't want him to get caught off guard."
Caden swung both ways.
There was a time, after my first time with Caden and before he became the Draconian alpha—during his time as my brother's beta—when he had been in a quiet relationship with Ty. To Caden, it had been a relationship of convenience. To Ty, though, it had become more personal. It dissolved when Caden took his rightful place as alpha and moved away. I just didn't want there to be any hurt feelings if Ty found out.
"I will tell him when I return," he said.
"When are you leaving?"
"Tomorrow. I was wondering if you would want to come by next weekend. Ivy is getting married and I know she would love it if you made an appearance." His gentle smile at the mention of the wedding, and dazed look in his gaze, showed how much he was looking forward to this event.
A fond smile curled my lips. "Adam?"
"I think it would be fun," he agreed.
"Can we come on Friday? A little early to help and congratulate the happy couple?" I asked.
"Of course."
"We will have Ag and his pack and at least a couple of wolves from our pack."
"No problem," Caden waved his hand at Adam's statement. "I'll make sure to set a few guest rooms aside--"
"Just one," I interrupted. "You're going to have a full house and I don't want to impose. My pack can suffer through sharing one room for a few days. Ag and his pack will want to stay along the perimeter."
"You and Adam can bed with me," Caden offered.
"I figured we would be," I smirked. "Even if you didn't offer, you'd find us there," I teased.
"You are an insufferable woman," he groused.
There was a pregnant pause before Caden reached over and tucked a few stray strands of hair behind my ear, his gentle touch sending a soft heat curling through my blood. "I'm going to miss you," he breathed, trying not to show how hard this was going to be for him.
Brushing his mind, I assured him he wouldn't be alone, and we would figure out time to spend together. Tonight wasn't going to allow any opportunities, not with Aidan and Anika here. We didn't want to confuse them if they woke in the middle of the night and came barging into our room and saw the three of us together.
Leaning into him, I pressed my forehead against his, cradling him in my embrace for a few minutes until the hurt passed. With a gentle kiss to his temple, I said, "We will see you in the morning." Relenting, he let me go.
"Goodnight," Caden breathed, settling down on the couch, snuggling with the pillow I had used the night before as Adam and I slipped into our room.
Crawling into bed, we came together in a tangle of arms and legs. It was so nice being in Adam's embrace. Safe. Warm. Loved.
"Today was perfect. Thank you," I breathed into the space between us, my head tucked comfortably under his chin.
"It was, baby girl," he agreed as sleep dragged us under.
