Chapter Two: Stay Awake

I stayed at the temple until the sun began to set Keyome assured that as long as I wore the necklace everywhere I went I would be safe so I placed the necklace around my neck and felt the cool amber orb press against my collar bone it had a electric feeling to it like it was pulsing with life. Keyome explained to me the orb was a part of her so as long as I had it around my neck no matter where I was she would be able to locate me and lend me assistance when I was in danger. I was still lost in thought as I rounded the corner and entered into the park ,I looked up and noticed that I had taken a wrong turn and was in a part of the park I was unfamiliar with. I began to look around trying to figure out the way I had come in so I could try to retrace my steps when I noticed two men standing under a streetlight a bit ahead of me. Something inside warned me to try and avoid them so I went to turn around and go the way I had come but it was too late they noticed me. “Hey there sexy how about you come over here with your fine ass and keep me and my boy here company for a bit?” the taller one of the two called out to me as he headed towards me. “N-No thanks I need to get home now my daddy is expecting me so please just leave me be and I’ll be on my way.” “Oh don’t be like that baby we just wanna play and have some fun you will enjoy it I promise.” He smirked at me and came even closer biting his lip as his eyes went up and down my body I felt discussed like he was stripping me with his eyes. I tried to walk around him but he quickly grabbed me by the wrist and pulled me close to him. I could smell the booze on his breath as he leaned in “now that’s better if you don’t struggle so much I promise it will hurt a hell of a lot less.” He began to tighten his grip on me as his friend came up on my other side and began running his hands along my waist “damn man she has a nice curvy body I bet she looks good as f**k naked look at those nice big t**s and that firm plump ass.” I tried to pull away as his hands went further down and groped my ass, I felt the tears begin to form on my cheeks. I felt so helpless as the two men began to pull at my cloths ripping my shirt down the front, I was crying hard begging them to let me go when a set of headlights settled on my face. I could just make out a figure behind the lights walking towards us “ I believe she said to let her go I suggest you f*****g do what she asks.” I gulped as the men sneered and answered “who the f**k do you think you are why don’t you just f**k off we are busy as you can f*****g see asshole.” I saw the figure tighten his fist as he walked towards us “are you f*****g deft or do you have a death wish I told you to f*****g let her go.” The figure growled and finally came into the light. The man holding my ass went rigged and let me go backing away slowly “son of a b***h it’s Gray f**k lets get the hell out of here.” The smaller of the two took off as the one holding my wrists looked up and gulped loudly slowly releasing me “s-sorry m-man I had no idea this girl was yours.” Gray glared daggers into the man standing in front of him as he walked up to me. He pulls me against him and growls under his breath as he takes his jacket off and covers me in it “get the hell out of here before I rip your f*****g head right off your damn shoulders don’t let me see you around here again do you f*****g here me?” The guy looked up at Gray as he still backed up slowly nodding before finally turning quickly and running as fast as he could out of the park into the trees out of sight. Shaking uncontrollably I clung to the front of Gray’s tee shirt, he gently placed a hand on my shoulders placing his other hand under my chin forcing me to look up at him “kitten what in the world are you doing here in the middle of the night all alone if I hadn’t come when I did they would have……” he clinched his fist unable to continue with what he was saying. “I-I got l-Lost and didn’t know how to get back to the m-main part of the park.” I hiccupped as I tried to control my crying. He ran a thumb underneath my eyes wiping away my tears “don’t cry baby I’ll take you home so please don’t cry anymore.” He leaned down and kissed my eyelids, I was so shocked that my tears immediately stopped and I looked up at him. His hair was hiding his face so I couldn’t make out his expression as he grabbed my hand and slowly led me to his motorcycle. He grabbed his helmet off the seat and held it out to me “here put this on.” I slid the helmet over my head and was immediately greeted with his scent inside the helmet I took a deep breath breathing him in deeply before turning to him. He slid his leg over the bike and straddled it then turned to me “get on kitten don’t worry I’ll be careful with you on with me.” Using his shoulders for support I swung my leg over the back of the bike sliding into the seat my thighs snuggly resting against his hips. I was so glad at that moment I had the helmet on because I knew my face was very red, he glanced back at me “hold on kitten or your gonna fall off.” I reached my hands out and gripped onto the back of his jacket timidly and I heard him smirk “no not like that.”He reached back and gently grabbed my arms placing them firmly around his muscular waist. “hold onto me like this,” he left his hand over mine for a moment longer before shifting forward and starting the motorcycle. It roared to life beneath us and I tightened my grip around Gray he looked back and smiled at me “now kitten hold on tight.” He shifted into gear and we took off like a bullet leaving the chamber of a gun I squeaked and buried my face into his back as my grip tightened even more. I could hear him laugh as we picked up even more speed leaving the park behind us in the blink of an eye. “so kitten where do you live?” “Brookmoor Street right next to the Birmingham Heights bookstore.”I practically screamed to be heard over the engine. I felt us accelerate as we sped down the road headed towards home. He slowed down as we approached my driveway and pulled up by the curb cutting off the engine. I unclenched my hands and slowly removed the helmet before I slowly swung my leg over the back of the bike getting off. I looked up at him and timidly smiled handing him the helmet “T-Thanks for the ride home and for helping me back there with those guys.” I shuddered at the memory of the guys and what accrued back at the park. He smiles and takes the helmet from me and nods at me in understanding I then begin to unzip his jacket to take it off but he places a hand over mine stopping me “keep it kitten its fine I have plenty of other ones at home.” I look up at him about to protest but he places a finger over his lips and shakes his head “go on and head inside so I know you get into the house ok.”I nod thanking him once more before trudging up the steps of my house and unlocking the door I walk into the house removing my shoes and run upstairs wanting nothing more but to change and get a shower. I didn’t hear the motorcycle start up yet so I go to my window and peek outside Gray was still setting there looking up at me. Once our eyes met he waved at me placing his helmet on then took off. My dad wasn’t home yet so I decided to take a shower before starting dinner, the warm water relaxed my tense muscles but I could still fell those guys hands all over me I grabbed my sponge and scrubbed at my skin until it burnt then set down in the water stream leaning my head against the wall. I was in the shower till all the hot water ran out when I finally wrapped my towel around my body and looked at myself in the seam covered mirror. I could see a purple angry looking bruise forming on my upper arm where that guy held onto my arm so tightly and it made me almost start crying again. My wolf pup came up and nudged the back of my leg looking up at me with those beautiful yellow green eye , I lightly ran my fingers over his soft snow colored fur looking at all the beautiful marking that were on his fur. He had a crescent shape mark right between his eyes that reminded me of the moon I smiled and kissed his nose “well I guess that settles that then little one your name from now on will be Moonstroke.” He yipped at me and licked my face jumping around the bathroom with joy like I had given him the best gift in the world. “well I guess that means you approve huh little one.” As if to answer he came running over and nuzzled my neck, I stood with Moonstroke in my hand and walked into my room to get changed to head downstairs and start dinner. He sat on my bed as I slipped on my cloths then picked up Gray’s jacket holding it to my nose inhaling his intoxicating scent. I sat it on my pillow shaking my head what in the world is wrong with me I’m acting like a horny fan girl I shake my head and walk downstairs Moonstroke hot on my heals. I was just putting the lasagna into the oven when my dad walked in and plopped down in the kitchen chair sighing loudly “how was your day daddy did you get all the paperwork and gear you need for your trip ready?” he glanced over at me and smiled before stretching out his arms above his head and standing “the paperwork will be sent over tomorrow morning and all my gear is being shipped out at the end of the week.” He walked over to me and hugged me tightly as he kissed my forehead “How was your day cupcake anything exciting happen while I was gone.” I remembered what happen and shudder pushing the memories away “No not really other than I finally named him.” I pointed at Moonstroke who stood in the corner of the kitchen eating his supper hungrily. “So what is it hun the tribal people I got him from used to name them after their spirits or markings to them names are sacred and hold power over ones soul with the proper name one can grow to be very strong.” I smile and look down at my ball of fluff “I  have decided to go with Moonstroke because he has a crescent shape mark on his forehead.” My dad glances at Moonstroke and smiles “what a very fitting name cupcake.” He cups my cheek and smiles fondly “you remind me so much of your mother you know she would be so proud of the woman you have become Kira your so Caring ,strong ,independent, beautiful, and I’m so lucky to have you as my daughter.” I feel tears well up in my eyes as I smile at him hugging him tightly. He hugs me back and kisses my hair “so what has my darling daughter made us for supper tonight?” “Lasagna, its mom’s old recipe.” I fixed our plates and we sat down eating in silence, I wish I could just stop this moment in time because I knew it would be so long before I get to see my father again after he leaves for the jungle. I was cleaning the dishes when my dad came into the kitchen and leaned against the counter “so honey while you do the dishes do you want me to take Moonstroke out for a walk he seems antsy to go and stretch his legs?” “that would be great dad I still have to begin my homework for art class thanks!” he smiled and walked over to the door grabbing Moondstroke’s leash from the hook on the wall and walked out the door. I grabbed my phone from the counter and texted Char and Liz letting them know I got home okay and that I would see them in the morning at school then headed upstairs to get to work on my art homework until I felt my eyes closing. I jumped awake to my alarm screaming at me I hit the snooze and got up stretching my arm and wincing as I run my hand over the large bruise on my right arm. I sighed and walked into the restroom starting my morning routine then got dressed before heading downstairs to put my shoes on. I decided after yesterday’s incident I would try and avoid the park as much as I possibly could so I took the longer way around and arrived right when the bus pulled up letting char and Liz out in front of the school. Liz came running up and hugged me tightly “hey girl are you okay I heard you left class early yesterday did something happen?” I smile and shake my head “No everything is fine I just felt a bit sick at my stomach is all , but I’m doing okay now.” From the look Char was giving me he didn’t believe a word I was saying he came up and lightly touched my arm and I winced in pain. His eyes grew darker and he looked at me sternly as he rolled up my sleeve to look at my arm “what the hell Kira what happened who the f**k did this to you I’ll mother f*****g kill him.” I have never seen Char so angry, I covered my arm back up and held my hand up “N-No its not like that Char I ran into my door yesterday I promise nothing happened.” “The hell it didn’t Scar Quit lying to me I know a handprint when I damn see one so now tell me who the hell did this?” Before I could try and calm him down screaming erupted around us announcing that Gray had arrived, he parked his motorcycle and began walking towards me. Char glared over at him and pushed me and Liz behind him “what the hell do you want Gray?” Gray just smiled and looked Char up and down Char was about a foot shorter than Gray but that didn’t stop Char from sizing him up “Can it Char I came to check and make sure Kira is okay after what happened to her last night.” Char glared at him then looked at me “Kira what is he talking about?” I looked between the both of them nervously then sighed inwardly “w-well I got lost in a part of the park I didn’t know some guys were giving me trouble and Gray stopped and helped me once the guys realized who he was they quickly took off.” Char still was glaring at Gray when he folded his arms across his chest grinning “Don’t forget to tell hot head here about how you had your arms wrapped around my waist so damn tightly either and was in my jacket kitten.” At his words Char grabbed him by the collar of the shirt and shoved him back “What does he mean Scar what is he talking about?” I blush and step between the two testosterone crazed boys “He gave me a ride home last night Char that’s it please let him go he did nothing wrong.” They glared at each other for a few more minutes before Gray knocked Chars hands away a cocky smile plastered on his lips “f**k off Char your just f*****g jealous that you are Friend zoned permanently.” I stepped towards Gray and glared at him “Gray that is enough you can leave now I’m thankful you helped me last night but you don’t need to provoke char like that please.” Gray looked down at me and scuffed “kitten for you I’ll stop he isn’t worth my time.” he walked away towards the building I couldn’t help to drag my eyes up his backside as he walked away, damn god above that guy was sexy as hell and he damn sure knew it. I turned looking at Char “Did you really have to do that?” I huffed at him and folded my arms across my chest “Scar I don’t like you hanging out with that damn hot head he has a shitty attitude and his reputation around here is horrible.” I scuffed at Char “Nobody should judge him for his reputation that isn’t right.” “Scar I’m just trying to look you because I’m worried about you that’s all.” I couldn’t take anymore “Char I can take f*****g care of myself, stop being so clingy.” I stormed off towards the building not even glancing back. I can’t believe char of all people would judge someone like that he was bullied all through middle school because he had his growth spurt early and was always taller than the other boys in class.  I was lost in thought that I wasn’t paying attention to where I was going I ran right into someone “I’m sorry I wasn’t paying attention.” I look up and find Gray looking down at me “Oh Gray, I’m sorry for Char’s behavior earlier.” He smiled at “Don’t worry about it I got him all hot and bothered so it is my fault really.”  “Oh yeah than…..” I was about to thank him for lending me his jacket when I was cut off by Rachel Gray’s current girlfriend. She walked up to Gray and laced her arm in his “Hey baby and hey girl I don’t know.” She looked up at him with puppy dog eyes “baby can I talk to you for a minute?” He glanced down at her and sighed “what do you want Rachel?” “Well my friend Bethany who lives next to kira Cress’s house told me you pulled up to her house last night with her on the back of your bike she was gripping onto you so tightly. What the f**k is with that you? told me you didn’t give anyone rides on your motorcycle and here you are giving the freak who talks to herself a ride and not you hot as hell girlfriend who is the most popular it girl on campus may I add??!!!” She was fuming as she looked down at me “why are you still here freak beat it.” I was just about to walk away when I felt a hand on my arm.”No Rachel you beat it I’m sick of how clingy you are I can’t even give someone who needs a hand help without you jumping down my throat about it so what I helped Kira out what’s the big deal.” She looked at him like he had two heads “Well if you like her so damn much date her then I’m f*****g done with you Gray.” She turned on her heals and hissed at me “You better watch yourself slut stay out of my way or you’ll regret it.” She stormed away disappearing around the corner leaving Me and Gray staring after her.
