No one answered. They were too frightened to talk. Cornell’s statement was all but a mere conjecture. He had just mindlessly uttered it without any second thoughts. He however didn’t know that it bore an enormous amount of truth behind it. And although it was purely coincidental, Cornell wasn’t yet in a position to realize that the timing of their ambush that day had struck absolute perfection in their favor. The truth was that something had in fact happened between Grigori and Miss Martinez. And what happened between the two began just a smidgen over a month before that ambush. Due to the manner in which the events had unfurled, what happened between them was still a hazy miasma of raw unbridled passion.
