13~ ONE NIGHT

1996 Words
After what Christiana said, the dinner couldn’t get even quieter. The silence was just loud. Sham looked like she has a lot of ideas in her mind. Jedi doesn’t really look bothered at all. Just that… she couldn’t finish her dinner that she excused herself calmly. Markus is also silent. He’s eating but his face was blank. Christiana looked like she dropped a bomb. Well, I knew for sure that the Angel who violated the law was executed but I never thought that the Angels’ partner also died. I wonder if the Angels’ partner died of natural cause or was it because of her involvement with the Angel? I never minded the conversation at the table. It was just less of my concern. I have more problems to take care of, especially my attitude problems. I sighed. I closed the door and went inside my room. I slumped my body on my bed. My back rested well on my soft mattress. I’m genuinely confused about what to do. I mean, to do my mission, I really don’t have to be friends or communicate with him. I just have to do my one job here even without him noticing me. Why does it have to be him!? Of all the witches and wolves of this world, why him? And worst, he hasn’t met his mate yet. I guess he’s a slow burn or this is just my punishment for everything I have done. Maybe I deserve this. I turned around and sighed. I heard a knock as I was about to close my eyes. The door opened and from the sound of the footsteps itself, I could tell who came inside. I pouted when I felt him sitting on my bed. I heard him sigh. Another episode of Mark convincing me to do my job. “It’s fun, Nav,” I just focused on closing my eyes so that perhaps, I can clear my mind. He continued. “You can’t be stuck in here, Nav. You can finally go outside but out of nowhere you want to be stuck here?” “Just give me time,” “Your pride will never wait unless you swallow it,” I turned to him with my furrowed brows. He smirked when he got me. I rolled my eyes and just turned around and continued to close my eyes. “Admit it, your pride can’t accept that he’s the one you’ll help with. You’re too stubborn to accept that he’s the man you’ll give a happy ever after. Instead, you want to give him a bad ending,” he chuckled after the last sentence. I turned to him again cause… he had a point. He’s right. I’m just a prideful b***h. It’s even questionable that I’m an Angel. I sighed. “I’m such a b***h, aren’t I?” Mark’s eyes widened a fraction at my words. I chuckled at his reaction. “You’re not supposed to say that,” “I’m not a saint. I’m just an Angel, Mark,” I shrugged. He shook his head and chuckled at me. He then handed me a paper. Of course! An enrollment form from the school they’re at. We’re too old for this that’s why I declined this offer from Christiana. My face twitched from the sight. But then Mark forcefully handed it to me. I raised a brow at him. “Give it a shot. Forest is actually not that bad, you know,” I sighed heavily at what he said. I know that already. The one who has attitude problems here is me. Nobody else but me. “Give me a day to think about it,” I gave up. He smiled then left my room peacefully. I looked at the paper. I sighed for the ninth time. I just slumped my body back to my bed and looked at the view outside of my balcony. The moon is high up in the night sky. So bright and majestic. The night looks bright thanks to the moonlight. My eyes were amazed at the moon that it stayed there for a while before going deciding to finally go outside of the gates of this mansion after a month. I realized I can never get my mind clear here. Just maybe… maybe, outside, I can find my peace. I made sure no one would notice me. I tip-toed to get outside the mansion. Since the first time I went to the forest, an incident happened. I figured out I’ll climb the trees and jump at them from time to time. I also made sure to get far away from the territory of the wolves. My eyes got a glimpse of the fifty-foot mahogany tree. It’s closer to the moon. And I guess, more peaceful. I finally made it to the tree. It’s the tallest here. It’s quiet and I can see the beautiful view down below and up above where the moon is. I have to admit, with all the rich nature of Athanatoss, I can say this world is beautiful. The citizens just can’t relate. So as the night grew colder and deeper, I admired the beauty of the moon. I rested my head on the branch just close to me. I swayed my feet alternatively and enjoyed the cold night. The moon is in a full moon. Peace, this is what I have been looking for. Finally! When I was about to close my eyes to take a nap in the night, I heard the harsh movements of bushes. I furrowed my brows. There were also chuckles and whistles in the distance. I wandered my eyes on the parade of trees below me. My eyes stopped at a familiar figure. My brows even furrowed more. They’re here? My eyes narrowed at him and then I noticed his pack with him. Looks like they’ve been having fun in the night, too. I remained in my seat. I observed them playing with each other. Hmmm. Boys, tsk. I crossed my arms and just looked at them. How happy can they be? They look like they’re seven-year-olds. I laughed at my thought. I even have an attitude of a six-year-old brat. I just sighed. My eyes remained on the childish Forest. My face twitched every time they play. So aggressive. I only flinched when he caught my eyes. My eyes widened a fraction when he looked at me straight with his half-ending laugh and smile. He can see me?! My brows furrowed when a minute passed and he hasn’t stopped looking at me. The heck is wrong with this guy? They continued playing but he was able to catch my eyes at his every move without his friends noticing. That’s weird. I shook my head and just focused on the moon. They were still noisy. The last time I check, this isn’t their territory so, at least I’m safe here. I stayed sitting on a branch admiring the precious moon. My goddess. When I wasn’t able to hear their hustles and laughter, I concluded they have gone to another spot to play. Or they may have chased each other. Like dogs. I smirked. I was about to look back to the moon when I heard a long sigh and chuckle. “You’re here,” he said in a matter of fact. Obviously. Still, in his smile and panting, I guess from climbing up. I only looked at him with surprise and shock. I didn’t even know that he was climbing! He really went up here without a sound. My face remained indifferent in front of him. He sat next to me but was about three or four feet away. I’d like it even better if he’s far, far, far away from me. And I think he sensed that. “Looks like Miss Eloise is not pleasant to see me,” his voice was sounded nice. Heck. He even mentioned my first name, disgusting. I focused my attention on the moon. And thinking about something, I know I’m not in their territory so there’s nothing for me to worry about. But, what if they plan to hurt me now? I mean, where are his friends? I shrugged all of those thoughts. If he does come to harm me, chances are, I would defend myself. “I haven’t seen you in a while. I only properly met your… cousins, I guess?” I wanted to roll my eyes. He’s talkative to even talk to a creature who is lower than his rank in status. I can even feel that his eyes are on me for the longest time now. Still, I remained my eyes to the moon. I have no time to waste with this guy. “I see that you’re not responding to me,” My brows formed a straight line. Does he mean that if he’s in a higher rank status, I have to answer every time he opens his mouth? With my furrowed brows, I looked at him with a hint of arrogance. “Do I have to?” He seemed surprised by my response. I mean, he wanted it in the first place. but it annoyed me that the amusement in his eyes never faded. Even, he looks intrigued and interested. I avoided his eyes when I realized I have spent too much time looking at it. I sighed. “How’s your wound?” all of the amusement in his voice and eyes were gone. There was… concern. I swallowed slowly. Well, naturally, the wound healed after two days. It was the slowest recovery I could have. I was drained of my essence and power. For him to ask about my wound sounded ridiculous. I wanted to laugh it out but he seemed serious. “Healed,” He nodded and smirked. “That’s good. So, you can finally roam around, right?” I turned to him when I sensed something different from his question. And I guess he noticed it. “Mark told me about it. You wanted to go outside and explore but you’re not yet allowed since you’re injured. Perhaps, now that you’re healed, you can finally have your adventure,” I narrowed my eyes on him. He said a lot of stuff. And really? Did Mark tell him that? They are pretty close now. I shook my head. “I’m going home now. It’s getting late,” I dismissed whatever he is saying. I started to climb down. It will take a while for me to get to the ground. The tree is pretty tall. Thinking about it, I could have had a more peaceful night if he just lost himself in the wilderness. I was already halfway when I noticed he tried catching up to me. I furrowed my brows but just continued going down. “Can I take you home, then?” Stupid question. My face twitched. “No,” “It’s already late and it can be dangerous for you out here,” “I’m not in your territory so I won’t be attacked here,” “There might be rebel groups wondering in this hour. It’s dangerous for you especially that you’re new here,” I didn’t mind responding to him. I just continued to reach for the ground. Until I made it to the ground. I sighed heavily and was still panting. He also made it too and still waiting for my answer. I looked at him with indifference. I really have no idea as to why is he here right now. Maybe he wants to make payback for what his friend did to me? Perhaps that’s the reason since he looked determined. I sighed realizing he’s too nice. People like him in this world can easily take advantage of him. Poor dog. “My night would have been peaceful if you just minded your business. We’ll part ways now,” I turned around him and left without his response.   To be continued…
