Chapter Seven Moment Of Truth

Two months later it was fall now, James and Kate had moved into their new house. Kate has been sick for the last few days. Kate walked up to James, “hey honey, I think I need to see a doctor.” James took her to a clinic right outside of town. “Kate, this is the pack's doctor. The doctor walked in “hello Kate I’m Doctor Maybelle Parker, I’ll be taking care of you today.

Doctor Parker asked, “Kate will you please lay down on the table, so I can examine you” Kate did as she was asked. “James, if you would like to step out this is the time to do so.” Kate said to James. James smiled, “I'm good right here with you.” Doctor Parker did her examination. “Okay Kate I'm going to use this machine on your stomach, it’s called a Fetal Doppler. It’s to help me listen to your baby’s heartbeat. We want to make sure the pup is growing nice and strong.”

Kate wasn’t surprised. “ So the ritual worked. Kate asked” the doctor looked at her, “yes Kate it worked. You are now carrying the next alpha. But I need to tell you that wolf pregnancy aren’t like normal ones, they are shorter. You're about two months pregnant. I'd say you have about four to five months left until you deliver.

James looked at Kate, “we’re going to have to start getting the little one's room ready.” Doctor Parker told Kate “I'd like to see you again in two weeks” Kate nodded and told her “okay” doctor Parker told her she was free to leave, and she will see her soon. Kate and James got up and left.

They decided after the clinic they would go see Luna and tell her the good news. As they were driving over to Luna's, Kate looked at James. “I'm a little nervous about this, we’re not ready to be parents yet. Kate said. James wasn’t sure how he felt. “I understand, I'm not sure how to feel either, but I know we will love this child and be good parents to it.” James said with a smile on his face.

When they got to Luna's house, she was outside, some pack members were over helping her fix her front porch. “Kate James, I’m happy to see you.” Luna said as she walked up to them. “Hi Luna, we have some news we would like to share with you.” Kate said. James smiled at his mom. They walked inside and sat down at the kitchen table.

Luna looked at them with a curious look. “We wanted to tell you that the ritual worked, and we are pregnant.” James told Luna. With excitement, Luna said, “I’m going to throw you a big baby shower to help get you guys ready for the little pup.” She was so excited, “how far along are you” Lizzy asked as she walked into the room. “Sorry I wasn’t trying to interrupt, I overheard you guys talking as I was walking out of the bathroom.” Kate smiled “it's ok Lizzy I’m eight weeks now, but I guess for us, I’m about twelve or thirteen weeks. I’m still trying to wrap my head around this being a faster pregnancy than normal ones.” Lizzy smiled.

I guess we get to be pregnant together, Lizzy told Kate. Kate was surprised. “You're pregnant too” Kate asked Lizzy with excitement in her eyes. “Yes I am, I'm about a week farther along than you. Jacob and I are super excited.” Lizzy said to Kate. “I didn’t know you and Jacob were a thing.” Kate said. “We’re married.” Lizzy told her. “This is super exciting. I’m glad I have someone else around who is going through this with me.” Kate said with excitement. “Me too.” Lizzy said.

They hung out at Luna's for a bit before going home. Kate couldn’t control her excitement. She was so excited that Lizzy was pregnant too. Then she realized she hadn’t told Jasmine about her being pregnant. “James tomorrow can we go to the school. I need to tell my sister about the baby, I don’t want her to find out through someone in the pack. That’s not far to her.” James agreed. Instead of them going home, James took her to the school to tell her sister about the baby.

Kate was surprised that they were at the school instead. “I thought we were going home.” Kate said to James. “I decided to bring you here now, so we aren’t taking any chances to not getting to jasmine in time to tell her. Kate smiled and gave James a light kiss on his cheek. They walked into the school and found jasmine sitting in the common room taking with some of her friends.

Jasmine caught Kate out of the corner of her eye. “Kate, what are you doing here?” Jasmine asked. “I came to see you, I have some news I needed to tell you about, and I wanted to tell you before someone in the pack told you.” Kate said with a little smile. “What is it?” Jasmine asked. “Well, you're going to be an aunty.” Kate told jasmine with a hug smile. Jasmine was shocked. “So the ritual worked then.” Jasmine asked. “Yes it did” James said. Jasmine was excited for her sister. “So do we know what the gender is yet?” Jasmine asked. “Not yet, I go back to the doctor in a few weeks. Maybe then we will find out.”

“So you must be around what twelve or thirteen weeks now?” Jasmine asked. “Yes, but how did you know that. I didn’t even know I was farther along than eight weeks?” Kate asked. She was so confused how her sister knew more about the pregnancy works than she did. “Kate, I go to a school where I learn everything there is about being a wolf, among other things.” Jasmine explained to her sister. “There isn’t anything about being a wolf I don’t know.”

Kate was surprised. She didn’t know that at the boarding school they taught the students things about who they are. “I’m glad you have been learning things about us. I now regret not coming when you asked me to all those years ago.” Kate said to jasmine. Kate started to cry. “I’m sorry, I’m not sure why I’m crying.” Jasmine hugged her sister. “It’s okay Kate, it’s just your hormones messing with you. It’s a normal thing that happens during pregnancy, you will be okay. I promise you.” Jasmine whispered to Kate. They say down and talked for a while, before they left.

They headed home, Kate fell asleep on the way. “Kate, it’s time to wake up, where home.” James said to Kate, trying to wake her up. Kate opened her eyes for a second and told him, “no, I want to sleep.” James smiled he got out of the truck walked around to Kate’s side opened the door unbuckled her seat belt and picked her up out of the car. He carried her into the house. He walked her upstairs to their room and laid her down in the bed and tucked her in. He leaned over and gave her a light kiss on her forehead. “You can sleep now.” he whispered in her ear. Then walked out of the room, leaving her to sleep.

James decided since Kate was sleeping, he would go and pick up a few things for the baby’s room. He went and picked up paint, a crib, a dresser and a changing table to surprise Kate with. He had Jacob come with him and help pick stuff out.

Kate slept the rest of the day. When she woke up later that evening, James was in one of the extra rooms. He had painted the room a nice bright yellow. He had the dresser and changing table put together. Not only that, but he was working on the crib when Kate walked in. “What are you doing in here?” She asked. “Well, I was gonna surprised you, but I decided to get a head start in the baby’s room.” James explained. “What do you think?” He asked. Kate started to cry. “I love it.” She came up to James and gave him a big kiss and hugged him.
