Chapter 17

SELINA'S POV For several seconds, Adrian and I simply stared at each other. I smirked at him, and I saw his jaw tighten. Happy to see me again? Of course you're not. “You're alive,” Ellaine said, clearly unhappy to see me. She glanced at Adrian, and just from the way they looked at each other, I knew Ellaine was aware of what Adrian had done to me. “Selina, sweetheart, look at me. Did someone try to kill you? Who were they? Tell me,” Dad said in a serious and authoritative voice. I looked at him, then turned my gaze back to Adrian. He was waiting for my answer too. “It was him,” I answered while staring directly at Adrian. Dad immediately looked at Adrian as well. Adrian swallowed hard and clenched his fists. It looked like he hadn't expected me to point at him. Dad didn't ask another question, he immediately jumped downstairs and grabbed Adrian by the collar. I even heard Adrian's back slam against the wall when Dad shoved him into it. “Dad, please calm down! Why are you believing Selina right away? She doesn't even have any proof!” Ellaine tried to stop him. “What did you do? What gave you the right to try to kill my daughter? I have the utmost respect for your parents, Adrian, but why did you do this to my daughter?! Why did you want to kill her? You're the future Alpha of this pack, you're supposed to be the first one protecting the people under your rule!” Dad roared furiously at him. One of Dad's hands was raised in the air, while the other tightly gripped Adrian's collar. If he thought I would hide what he did from my parents, he was wrong. They were the first ones who worried about me, they deserved to know what my former mate had done because I knew Dad would never stop searching for the reason I suddenly disappeared for an entire week. I didn't want him exhausting himself trying to find out who was responsible when I could simply tell him. “Dad, please! Don't hurt him. He's my boyfriend, Dad, so please stop this!” Ellaine screamed. I smirked. So they were official now. Had Adrian already marked her to become his Luna? “Selina!” she shouted at me, making me raise an eyebrow. “What are you accusing Adrian of?! Haven't you done enough? Are you really trying to ruin his name? Are you getting revenge? He's the one who should be taking revenge on you because you humiliated him in front of everyone, and in front of his parents! Take back what you said because Adrian would never kill anyone, especially when he's our future Alpha!” she yelled at me angrily. I walked down the stairs while Dad was still glaring furiously at Adrian. I approached Ellaine, and she didn't step back. “I know you know something, Ellaine. You know what really happened, and you know I'm telling the truth,” I said to her. She instinctively stepped back because my face was so close to hers. “Mr. Montecarlos, please calm down first. Let me explain, and I'm begging you, please don't let my parents find out about what I did,” Adrian pleaded, then Dad answered him with a powerful punch straight to the face. Ellaine was already crying, terrified that Dad might do something even worse to Adrian. He deserved that. I no longer felt anything for him because whatever bond we once had was already gone. That wasn't even enough because they had no idea how terrified I had been when they tried to kill me. Dad shoved Adrian onto the floor. Adrian didn't fight back because the moment he did, his parents would surely find out about what he had done to me. Even if his parents were the Alpha and Luna, there would be nothing they could do once it was proven that Adrian and his friends had attempted to murder me. They might be able to erase my scent from their bodies using the witches' magic, but because I survived, it was still possible for my scent to remain on them. “Dad, please don't make this any bigger,” Ellaine begged as she rushed over to Adrian, who was still lying on the floor. “Why, Adrian?! Why?!” Dad shouted furiously. Adrian could only lower his head. “I'm really sorry, Beta Dante. I only did it because I was consumed by anger, because Selina humiliated me when she broke our mate bond. As her mate, I was deeply hurt by what she did.” “That still doesn't give you the right to kill your former mate! More than anyone else, you should know our laws!” “Yes, I know, Beta Dante. I know I can't undo what I've done, but please, don't let my parents find out. Please,” he begged, looking like a pitiful lamb now. He never pitied me when he and his friends ganged up on me. He never pitied me when I burned from the effects of the wolfsbane. “Dad, please!” Ellaine screamed again as Dad grabbed Adrian by the collar once more. Dad punched him in the face again, not just once, but twice. “Those are for trying to murder my daughter, Adrian. You know my daughter would never have rejected you if you hadn't done those things to her. She wouldn't have rejected you if she believed you deserved to be her mate. I'll let what you did to my daughter slide this once, but if you ever do something like that to her again, I'll make sure no pack will ever accept you,” Dad threatened. “Yes, Beta Dante. I won't hurt Selina again. I promise,” Adrian answered like a frightened puppy. I quietly sat down on the sofa. Ellaine glared at me with hatred. They might not kill me, but I knew they would only hurt me even more, making me let out another quiet sigh. I chose not to fight back because I kept hoping they would eventually grow tired of what they were doing to me, but instead, it seemed like they enjoyed it even more the longer it went on because I never did anything to stop them from hurting me. “I'll see you at school, Ellaine. I'm leaving now.” Adrian was about to leave when Dad stepped in front of him. “Don't you have anything you want to say to Selina?” Dad asked. Adrian's jaw tightened once again, but he had no choice except to face me. “I'm sorry for what I did, Selina. I hope you can forgive me. I was just blinded by my anger, but believe me, I never intended to kill you,” he said, but I didn't answer him. He was looking at me, but his eyes were telling a completely different story than his mouth. He was mad. “You're the reason all of this is happening, Selina. When are you ever going to stop?” Ellaine turned to me. Why was I always the one she blamed? “That's enough, Ellaine. If I ever find out that you're involved in hurting your sister, I won't hesitate to have you expelled from this pack,” Dad warned her. “I hate all of you!” Ellaine screamed before storming out. She slammed the door so hard that the whole house shook. Mom remained silent, unable to decide whose side she should take. I was certain Adrian would still do whatever he wanted to me, especially if the Alpha and Luna never learned about the crime he had committed. In just one more week, my scent would completely disappear from him, and after that, no one would ever know whether he had tried to kill me or not.
