MAXWELL’S POV
I was at the back of their school, staring into the distance. She was strong, fast in her movements, and even when her opponent moved quickly, it seemed as though everything was in slow motion for her because she was still able to block every attack thrown at her.
I couldn't help but worry about her because she said she was wolfless. I don't think she was joking because when she fought, she didn't shift. She still forced herself to fight. She said she wanted to fight for her parents and make it out of the arena alive.
She didn't want to enter the Lunaris Royal Academy but with her strength, speed, and sharp instincts, I think she could win all of her matches.
“What are you doing here? Aren't you going to watch?” Damien asked when he found me again. “Are you only going to watch if that girl is the one fighting? What is it about her? Don't tell me she's your mate. I've noticed that you're not usually this worried about her.” Damien said seriously. I didn't answer him. My eyes remained fixed on the distance.
“She's good. I saw how she fights. By the way, how did you know that she's good at fighting but doesn't fight back against her bullies? Have you really seen her fight before? When did you meet her?” Damien continued asking questions.
“Five men fought her yesterday while I was up in the tree watching the surroundings. At first, I didn't know it was her, so I just watched them. I didn't want to interfere with whatever problem they had at their school. She managed to fight five students who were all men.” I answered him. I couldn't understand why her fellow students hated her so much.
She's wolfless but they're also afraid that Selina might be one of those chosen to study at Lunaris. Who really is she? Her speed, the way her wounds heal so quickly, her strength, and her sharp instincts, it's possible that she's not an ordinary wolf.
“Do you think she'll still survive once she faces strong and powerful wolves?” Damien asked again. That was what I was thinking too, would she really be able to handle her next match?
I let out a sigh.
“I don't know.” I answered. I'm sure all of them would use their full strength in their fights because every student wanted to enter Lunaris.
The matches continued in the arena. Damien and I silently watched after we returned here. As the Mooncrest Trial drew closer to its end, every match became more intense. Some students had already been eliminated after their fights. It was also possible that Selina would be called again because I didn't include her in the schedule on the first and second days since I was worried that her wolf might not have fully recovered yet, but apparently, she didn't have a wolf.
Don't get me wrong, Selina would still go through all the matches and what I did for her wasn't cheating. The Mooncrest Trial couldn't be cheated.
When I heard her name from the announcer again, it was as if my whole body suddenly came alive. I straightened in my seat and clasped my hands together. My eyes searched for Selina and I immediately saw her entering the arena.
“Are you really interested in her? What is it about her that you can't take your eyes off her?” I looked at Damien irritably.
“Why do you care? Are you only going to focus on me now? I'm just curious about her. I just want to know how far she can go.” I answered him.
‘Oh really? I know you're already eager for her too. What's stopping you from marking her? Don't you like her just because you're her second mate? Oh come on, man. Wake up. She hasn't been marked!’ Apollo said, making me shake my head at him. He was still angry with me even now.
I could feel how badly he wanted to mark Selina, but this wasn't the right time. I didn't even know if I could mark her. A wolfless Luna, how could she help me rule our people?
‘Oh come on, Maxwell Dela Fuente. You're strong enough to protect and lead the Silvermoon Pack together. We need to claim her now!’ Apollo snarled.
I watched Selina as their match began. She was always focused on her opponent's eyes, as if she could read their next move through their eyes.
My jaw tightened when Selina was hit in the stomach. I clenched my fist. All she wanted was to make it out of the arena alive, that's all. No one had died in the Mooncrest Trial yet, but because she didn't have a wolf and her strength wouldn't be equal to theirs, she could possibly die.
They were both good at fighting. The arena was silent and everyone was focused on Selina. It seemed like they were all waiting to see what would happen to Selina, especially since many of them had watched her win her first match without shifting.
My fists tightened when Selina's feet suddenly skidded across the ground. They left marks on the ground. Her opponent wasted no time, and neither did Selina.
My jaw tightened when Selina was locked by the neck, but she jumped and used her full strength to fall beneath her opponent's feet, causing her opponent to flip over. Her opponent landed face-first on the ground, and she immediately locked him by the neck as well.
I wasn't the one fighting, but somehow, I felt even more nervous than Selina. Her opponent was already back on his feet and charged at Selina again. Selina stepped onto her opponent's knee before launching herself into the air, spinning and kicking him underneath, causing him to fall.
Because of the force of her kick, her opponent couldn't get up immediately. Their fight continued until her opponent shifted. I watched them seriously, and so did everyone else because even though this was Selina's second match, she still hadn't shifted.
“Why hasn't she shifted yet? Is she only going to rely on her fighting strength? If she's already this strong without shifting, how much stronger will she be once she shifts?” Luna Mirasol, Damien's mother, asked curiously. Even they were now curious about Selina.
“She is good, whose daughter is she?” Alpha Mateo, Damien's father, also asked curiously.
“She is too mysterious, if she was only adopted by Beta Dante of the Shadowfang Pack, who are her parents?” I looked at Damien because he seemed to have become interested in Selina too.
“She got it.” Dad said with a smile. It looked like Selina had caught everyone's attention.
“And the winner, Selina Montecarlos of Shadowfang Pack!” the announcer announced when she won. I let out a sigh of relief. She had suffered some wounds because of her opponent's wolf, but she quickly left the arena. Was she hiding how quickly her wounds healed?
