SELINA'S POV
Mom could barely believe what I had just told her. We were both sitting on the sofa now, while she tightly held both of my hands.
“Are you sure about this? You know what kind of punishment awaits if the Alpha and Luna find out. If it's proven that Adrian really tried to kill you, you know what could happen to him and his friends. They could be expelled from our pack. Adrian is the only son of our Alpha and Luna, sweetheart. They'll have to make a painful decision to banish Adrian from our pack if everything you've told me turns out to be true.”
“I know, Mom,” I answered. I knew the laws every werewolf lived by. Killing one of your own, especially someone from the same pack, was a grave sin, the punishment was exile from the pack. They could end up becoming rogues with no pack to belong to.
“What are you planning to do? Do you want us to tell Alpha Kler and Luna Aimee? They need to be held accountable for what they did to you. Killing a fellow pack member is a serious crime. He's supposed to become the next Alpha of our pack, how can we trust him to lead all of us if he's capable of killing those he considers beneath him?” She asked. I wondered if I should tell Adrian's parents what he had done to me, or if I should give him one more chance.
Did they really deserve another chance? There were six of them who tried to kill me, and none of them thought about the consequences. I knew they were fully aware of what would happen once everyone discovered they had murdered me, but I had a feeling they intended to bury the truth forever.
“I won't do anything, Mom. I won't tell the Alpha and Luna what they did to me because I don't want to bring chaos to our pack, but if they ever do it again, I won't let it slide anymore. I can still endure the pain and bullying they put me through, but trying to kill me when I've done nothing wrong to them, that's a completely different matter.”
“But what if they do it again? If it's easy for our kind to know whether we've killed another werewolf, you also know they could ask witches to mask the scent you left on their bodies.”
“I just want to focus on the Mooncrest Trial, Mom. I want to survive it, go to school, and live a normal life. I just want to stay with you and Dad, and repay everything you've done for me.” She let out a deep sigh, gently stroked my hair, and hugged me.
“Thank you for coming home alive, sweetheart. Thank you because nothing happened to you. You have no idea how worried we were. I'll send someone to find your dad so he can come back and see you. He never stopped searching for you from the moment you didn't come home. By the way, how did you escape them? If they used wolfsbane, how did you survive?” she asked curiously after pulling away from the hug.
“Some people saved me. They gave me powerful medicinal herbs to speed up my healing despite the wolfsbane. Dad couldn't find me within our territory because I wasn't here while I was recovering. The people from Silvermoon Pack saved me, Mom,” I answered. She simply stared at me. The way she looked at me, it was as if she was thanking the Moon Goddess over and over again for bringing me home alive.
I couldn't even imagine how worried they had been for me.
“Go eat and get some rest so you can prepare for the Mooncrest Trial. Are you sure you can still fight? What if your body is still weak because of the wolfsbane? It's alright if you compete next year instead.”
“No, Mom. Don't worry about me because I'm sure I can do it now. My strength has already returned, and the wolfsbane no longer has any effect on my body.”
“Are you going back to school now? Since you don't have a match today anyway, why don't you wait for your dad? He probably already received the message that you're home.” I simply nodded at her.
She served me a meal, and I happily ate everything. I thought I would never get to taste Mom's cooking again. I thought I would never see them again. Even though my life at school had been miserable because of my classmates and Ellaine, they were still the reason I kept moving forward. I also wanted to know where I truly came from and who my real parents were.
I went into my room, took a bath, and cleaned myself up. I couldn't help thinking about Maxwell. If he was going to become the future Alpha of Silvermoon Pack, he would surely be an outstanding Alpha because even though we belonged to different packs, he never hesitated to save me. The same was true for Damien from Crimsonclaw Pack.
Maybe if Ellaine had been Adrian's mate, he never would have tried to kill me. I knew it was a disgrace to him that a girl like me had been chosen by the Moon Goddess to become his mate. I never even asked the Moon Goddess to give me a mate with such a high position.
My only wish was to live a peaceful life and find my real parents. I would never leave the parents who adopted me. I just had so many questions for my biological parents.
“Where is she? Are you sure it was her? Has she really come back?” Even from my room, I could hear Dad's voice. I didn't know if he was simply speaking loudly, or if my hearing had somehow become sharper.
I stepped out of the shower room and got dressed. I knew he wanted to see me immediately and make sure I had really come home alive.
“Selina, sweetheart!” he called the moment he saw me from downstairs. Before I could even walk down the stairs, he practically leaped over them just to reach me. He wrapped me in a tight embrace as though he never wanted to let go.
I buried my face against Dad's chest. I couldn't stop myself from crying because of the love and concern they had for me.
“What happened to you? Where did you go? Why did you only come home now?” he asked one question after another. I couldn't hide my sobs. I would still be happy even if I never found my real parents because I already had them. I never wanted them to feel like they weren't enough just because I was still searching for my biological family.
“I'm fine, Dad. Thank you for never giving up on finding me. I'm sorry for making you worry. I'm sorry for making you and Mom suffer because of me,” I said guiltily, even though I never wanted any of this to happen.
Dad finally released me from the hug and gently wiped away my tears.
“Tell me, did someone hurt you? Just tell me, and I'll deal with them myself,” he asked firmly. I could see vengeance burning in his eyes. He wanted to avenge me.
“Mom, we're here!” we heard Ellaine's cheerful voice. I looked downstairs, and both she and Adrian looked up at me at the same time.
“Selina?” Ellaine whispered in disbelief. Adrian's eyes widened as ours met. I could clearly see the fear in his eyes, and the shock of seeing me alive.
