Chapter 20

SELINA’S POV Until now, I still couldn’t process what I had learned. He knew that I was his mate when I lost consciousness in the forest? So that was why he didn’t hesitate to bring me to their pack and heal me, why didn’t I feel him immediately? Could it be because of the effects of the wolfsbane in my system? When he told me earlier that I was his mate, that was when I finally felt that familiar feeling, the same feeling I had when I smelled Adrian as my mate. I didn’t know if he was angry because I was his mate or because I already had a mate before him. I could only sigh, I never asked the Moon Goddess to give me a second chance mate, but she still gave me one right away, why does she keep giving me Alphas? Am I really destined to become a Luna? How could I become a Luna when I was such a weak creature? I didn’t even have a wolf, so how could I fulfill my responsibilities as a Luna when I was the one who would need to be protected by my own subjects? I shook my head and let out a small laugh at my own thoughts, he only introduced himself earlier as my mate but he never said that he wanted me to become his Luna or that he wanted to mark me, now I understood why he didn’t hesitate to save me and bring me to the Silvermoon Pack, because it was his responsibility to save and protect me as his mate. He immediately felt the mate bond between us, so even though it was dangerous for him to get the herbs I needed, he still did it because that was what he was supposed to do, he could feel the pain I was feeling. ‘Where are you, my wolf? If you’re really there, then why haven’t you come out yet? Why are you letting me suffer like this? Are you just going to hide forever and watch me get hurt and killed?’ I couldn’t help but get angry at my wolf, she was there all along but she still chose not to come out, wolves usually emerged at the age of twelve, but mine had been hiding for six years already, I didn’t know if she was just afraid or if she also didn’t want to experience the hardships and pain that I was going through. During every bullying and every humiliation they threw at me, she was never there, during every time they tortured me and every battle I had to face, she was still nowhere to be found. I let out a bitter laugh, maybe she was already afraid to come out because of the kind of life I had, even my wolf didn’t want me, my own parents threw me into the river, my first mate hurt me, and now I had a second chance mate, but I wasn’t even sure if he could accept me. The only people who adopted me and became my parents were the ones who treated me well and gave me the love I needed, they were the reason I continued to fight. “Selina,” I looked at Ellaine when she disturbed my silence here, I also looked at Adrian, who was glaring at me angrily again. “What do you need this time? Are you going to make me suffer again? Are you going to hurt me again? Aren’t you tired of what you’re doing to me?” Adrian quickly grabbed me by the throat and pushed me backward until my back hit the wall, we were several meters away from where I had been standing earlier. “Why are you still alive? Where did you hide, huh? And who helped you?!” he growled furiously, his eyes were blazing with intense anger toward me. I held onto his hand as I struggled to breathe. ‘Aren’t you going to help me? Are you really going to hide forever?!’ I screamed angrily at my wolf, but nothing happened, she still chose to hide and watch me get hurt. “L-Let m-me go!” I struggled to scream at Adrian, but he only tightened his grip around my neck. “Just try telling my parents what happened to you, and I’ll make sure you die and never get the chance to live again. Do you think I’ll make you my Luna after you tell my parents what we did to you? I’ll kill you before that ever happens!” I could already feel my cheeks burning. I wanted to break free, but it seemed like I had no strength left. Adrian was so furious with me that I could barely fight against his strength. I coughed repeatedly when his hand suddenly disappeared from my neck. I could only hear him hitting the ground, and I saw a man standing in front of me. I couldn’t see him clearly yet because my head was bowed and I was holding my neck while coughing repeatedly and struggling to catch my breath. I thought I was going to die and that he would never let me go. “What do you think you’re doing?” a man asked sternly, his voice was familiar but I couldn’t recognize him yet. I remained hunched over as I tried to catch the air that had been knocked out of my body. “Miss, are you okay?” he asked me before helping me stand properly and guiding me to sit on a bench. “Damien? What are you doing? Why are you interfering? This isn’t your territory, so don’t interfere with us!” Adrian snarled angrily as he stood up, it looked like Damien had kicked Adrian, causing him to crash onto the ground. I looked at the man standing in front of me, it really was Damien, the future Alpha of the Crimsonclaw Pack. They were one of the strongest and largest packs. They and the Silvermoon Pack were among the leading packs of all the werewolves. “You know our laws, Adrian, you are going to be the Alpha of this pack, but what is this you’re doing to one of your own subjects? Is it because she’s weak and beneath you that you think you can treat her like this? The Mooncrest Trial is still ongoing, and we are doing everything we can to keep an eye on all of you. You are not allowed to hurt your fellow candidates because we might think that you’re doing this to weaken them and make sure they no longer have the strength to fight when it’s their turn to enter the Mooncrest Trial.” Damien’s voice was filled with authority. He was so handsome, tall, with a sharp nose and such a perfect jawline. Adrian let out a bitter laugh. “Do you really think I’m doing this so she won’t be able to fight in the Mooncrest Trial? I’m the next Alpha of the Shadowfang Pack, Damien, whether I fight or not, I’ll still study at the Lunaris Royal Academy as an Alpha.” He said arrogantly. “You’re not even certain that you’ll be the next Alpha of the Shadowfang Pack, Adrian Barcelon. At this rate, you might become a Rogue before you ever become an Alpha.” Adrian gritted his teeth at Damien’s words. Damien approached me again and helped me stand. “You need to rest, you’re still weak, so it would be better for you to get some rest, your fight is tomorrow, why are you even here already?” he said worriedly. I gave him a small smile because my heart seemed to flutter when I felt his concern for me. “Do you know her?” Ellaine asked before letting out a bitter laugh. Damien only looked at her blankly before helping me away from them. “What is it about Selina that makes her so easily win everyone over?! That’s Alpha Damien, the man so many women dream of. That woman really is a witch because I’m sure she’s using her spells to make everyone around her fall for her!” I could still hear Ellaine saying, she wasn’t shouting, but her voice seemed to become clearer to me even though we were already far away. Doesn’t she think? If I really were a witch and could easily win over everyone around me, then I would have gained their affection a long time ago, and I wouldn’t have had to suffer their cruelty.
