Chapter 15

SELINA’S POV

Alpha Alex finally let go of me before helping me back to my feet.

“With your speed, your sharp instincts, and your combat skills, tell me, how am I supposed to believe that you don't have a wolf?” he asked. Why would I ever joke about being wolfless? If I had a wolf, I would've been proud to show it to everyone, and I probably would've never gone through all the bullying I endured.

“Aren't you supposed to be at the Mooncrest Trial? Aren't Crimsonclaw Pack and Silvermoon Pack the organizers of that event? Why are you still here?”

“You're avoiding my question, kid. Who exactly are you?” he asked seriously. What else did I have to do to make him believe me? Did he really think I would lie to them when they could kill me whenever they wanted? No one even knew I was here in their pack, and if they decided to kill me, no one would ever find out.

“I'm telling the truth, Alpha Alex. If I had a wolf, my life probably wouldn't have turned out like this. I probably wouldn't have been bullied by my classmates, and my mate probably wouldn't have hurt me. I have no reason to lie to you, Alpha Alex. If you think I'm too fast and my instincts are too sharp, it's because I trained alone. I refused to stay weak. When my wolf never appeared at the age it was supposed to, I started training by myself. The people my age in our pack hated me because I was wolfless. They didn't even want me joining them during training at the training ground. I had no choice but to rely on myself. Even if I don't have a wolf, at least I can still defend myself through combat.” I spoke to him seriously. He continued staring directly into my eyes.

It was as if he was trying to determine whether I was telling the truth.

“Alpha Alex, Luna Maxzine has been looking for you. She said you're about to leave for Shadowfang Pack,” we heard a man call out. Alpha Alex let out a sigh before giving me a nod.

“Aren't you going back to Shadowfang Pack to participate in the Mooncrest Trial? If you want, you can travel with us. If you don't have a scheduled match yet, I think you should go home first because your parents are probably worried about you. You've been staying in my pack for an entire week, kid.”

“Maxwell told me he'd send someone to pick me up the day after tomorrow, Alpha Alex. It would be embarrassing for someone as lowly as me to travel together with you and Luna Maxzine. I'll just wait for Maxwell to come for me here. Don't worry, I don't intend to stay in your pack or hide here for long,” I said before giving him a respectful bow.

I couldn't bring myself to travel with them, much less ride in their luxurious vehicles. They had already been far too kind to me. It was enough that they welcomed me here, took care of me, and had their pack healers treat my injuries. I didn't want to take advantage of their kindness.

“We don't mind if you travel with us to Shadowfang Pack. Go pack your things if you still have anything in your room, then come with us. Let's go. Maxwell needs to focus on the Mooncrest Trial, he might forget to come back for you.” I thought about what Alpha Alex had said. I wasn't special enough for Maxwell to personally come back for me. If he forgot I was still here in their pack, I wouldn't be able to participate in the Mooncrest Trial.

If I missed the Mooncrest Trial this year, that meant I wouldn't be able to enter college until next year because no matter what I did, I couldn't avoid the Mooncrest Trial. I wouldn't be allowed to study if I didn't participate in it.

I decided to go with Alpha Alex and Luna Maxzine. They rode in the other vehicle while I stayed in another one with the Gamma and Delta. I remained quiet throughout the entire journey. Adrian would definitely be shocked when he saw that I was still alive.

I was fortunate that the Moon Goddess had still shown me mercy by sending people to save me. Once Adrian and his friends saw me alive, they'd probably be even more furious. They hadn't even made sure I was truly dead before leaving me behind in that forest.

I'm certain they never expected me to fight back. If I hadn't mocked them by saying it took six men to gang up on one woman, they probably would've never let me go, and my life would've ended there. The fact that they used wolfsbane against me proved they had never intended to let me live.

I had wounded Adrian's pride too deeply by rejecting him in front of everyone. If he thought I wanted to become his Luna and would never reject him, then he was completely mistaken. It hurt that the Moon Goddess had chosen him for me, but I wasn't a martyr who would simply endure all the pain he caused me.

I didn't want to die yet because even I didn't know who I truly was. Who am I? Which family do I really belong to? Why don't I have a wolf? What happened to my parents on the day I disappeared?

I had so many questions that would never be answered until I found my real parents.

I have a mate, sharp instincts, incredible speed... but no wolf.

After several hours of traveling, we finally arrived at Shadowfang Pack. Before we entered the school grounds, I asked to be dropped off. I first approached Alpha Alex and Luna Maxzine's vehicle so I could properly thank them.

“I'll get off here. Thank you so much for all your kindness,” I said before bowing respectfully to them.

“See you in the Arena, Selina,” Luna Maxzine said, and I simply nodded. Their convoy soon drove away, while I headed straight home. I wondered how Mom and Dad were doing. There was only one person in that house who would truly be happy if I disappeared, and that was Ellaine.

I slowly entered the house. Silence greeted me, along with the aroma of food drifting from the kitchen. Was Mom here? Didn't they go to watch the matches at the Arena? The battles between all the students had probably already begun.

“Did you forget something?” Mom asked as I stepped into the kitchen. Her voice lacked its usual warmth, and it sounded so full of sadness.

She turned toward me when I didn't answer. Her eyes widened the moment she saw me.

“Selina? Sweetheart, is that really you?” Excitement filled her voice as she rushed toward me. She touched my arms and shoulders as if trying to make sure I was real and not just an illusion or a ghost.

“Selina, it really is you!” She pulled me into a tight embrace, and I could hear her quietly crying.

“Where have you been? Why did you suddenly disappear? What happened to you? We searched everywhere for you, but we couldn't find you anywhere. Your father still hasn't come home because he's been searching every corner of our pack for you. The warriors Alpha Kler assigned have been helping him look for you as well.” She pulled away from the hug and carefully looked me over from head to toe. I simply stared at Mom because even though I wasn't born to her, she had always loved me as if I were her own daughter.

“Did you run away? Don't you want us anymore?” she asked painfully. I gently held both of her hands and looked into her eyes.

“I didn't run away, Mom. Adrian, Alpha Kler's son, wanted to kill me, he and his friends. On the day I disappeared, they kidnapped me and took me deep into the forest. That's where they tried to murder me.”
