SELINA'S POV
I let out a deep sigh after finishing tying my necktie. With everything that happened to me at school every single day, there were times I didn't even want to go anymore. I'd rather study on my own and spend my days training, but I knew Mom and Dad would never agree to that.
"Selina, let's go," Dad called.
I picked up my bag and went downstairs.
"Bye, Mom," I said, kissing her on the cheek before leaving the house. Ellaine rolled her eyes at me again before getting into our car.
"Take care, both of you. If anything happens, call us right away," Mom reminded us.
"Yes, Mom," I replied with a smile before getting into the car. Ellaine sat in the passenger seat while I took the backseat. I wondered what would happen to me today. What was Ellaine planning to do to me this time?
We grew up together, yet she was the one making my life miserable at school. Instead of being the person who stood by my side, she had become the leader of those who bullied me.
When we arrived at school, Ellaine got out of the car first. I kissed Dad on the cheek before saying goodbye.
"Bye, Dad," I said.
He simply smiled at me before driving away. The moment I stepped through the school gate, someone dumped a bucket of water over me. I didn't even know what it was, but it smelled like a dead animal. I could hear Ellaine's friends laughing. I pulled the handkerchief from my skirt pocket and wiped my face.
"You deserve it, b***h," Ellaine said with a raised brow.
I simply let out a sigh. If I didn't owe so much to our parents, I would have fought back against Ellaine a long time ago. I kept stopping myself from slapping her across the face and dragging her by the hair.
I headed toward my locker. Every student I passed kept their distance because of the smell. Fortunately, I always kept an extra uniform in my locker for situations like this.
"Selina, what happened to you?"
I looked at Adrian with an expressionless face. He was the future Alpha of our pack, the Shadowfang Pack, yet he was also one of the people who bullied me because I was wolfless. Out of everyone studying at this school, I was the only one who still didn't have a wolf.
"I think this would make you smell even better."
Adrian walked over to me, killed the rat he was holding right in front of my eyes, then poured its blood over my head. I silently endured what he did because there was nothing I could do. Their laughter echoed throughout the hallway.
"Has your wolf appeared yet? Can you feel it now?" he asked with a grin. I slowly exhaled, trying to keep the anger building inside my chest under control.
"I'm just helping you awaken your wolf. You should be thanking me." He even winked at me before leaving with his friends, still laughing.
I wiped my face as the rat's blood slowly ran down my cheeks. I headed straight to my locker to grab my spare uniform so I could take another shower. I couldn't even stand my own smell anymore after everything they had thrown at me.
"Are you really not going to do anything to defend yourself?" I immediately turned toward the school wall and saw the same man I had met in my secret training ground.
"What are you doing here? Are you following me?" I asked irritably. He smirked before jumping down from the wall.
"Why would I follow you? Who are you? Is there something special about you that would make me want to?" He asked with a raised brow. I only glared at him.
"You're not from the Shadowfang Pack. Who are you, and which pack do you belong to?" I asked.
"That is none of your business."
"Then stop following me! You keep showing up out of nowhere!" I snapped.
That annoying smirk appeared on his face again before his eyes slowly traveled over me from head to toe.
"You clearly know how to fight, so why don't you do that to your bullies?"
"My decisions are none of your business," I replied.
"Maxwell, let's go!"
I looked behind me to see where the voice had come from, but there was no one there. When I turned back, the man had already disappeared.
"Maxwell? So that's the name of that jerk?" I muttered irritably. He was undeniably handsome, and he was so tall that I had to tilt my head up just to look at him. His muscles were well-defined, proof of years of relentless training.
I went inside the bathroom and took another shower. I scrubbed myself thoroughly, trying to wash away the disgusting smell they had covered me with. After changing into my clean uniform, I returned to the classroom. I already knew they had another prank waiting for me, so I prepared myself.
I opened the classroom door but didn't step inside. Instead, I quickly kicked the bucket that had been balanced above the doorway, sending the dirty water flying before it could be dumped on me.
"Oh my gosh!"
"Ew!"
"It stinks!"
Everyone cried out at once as the filthy water splashed all over them instead.
"You f*****g b***h!" Ellaine shouted furiously after getting soaked with the foul-smelling water. My expression remained blank.
"You'll pay for what you did to us. Do you really think I'll let you have a single day of peace? You're wrong, because I'll make your life a living hell!" she screamed before storming out of the classroom with the rest of our classmates. I simply shook my head before taking my seat.
When class started, our teacher finally arrived.
"You all need to start preparing because the Mooncrest Trials are approaching. For the remaining months before the school year ends, your main focus will be your training," our teacher announced.
I quietly listened from my seat at the back of the classroom.
When someone threw a dead lizard at me, I looked at Adrian. He, his friends, and even Ellaine were laughing again. Ellaine had liked Adrian for a long time, and everyone was already expecting the two of them to become mates.
The full moon was getting closer, and soon some of us would finally meet our destined mates. I didn't even know if I would be able to recognize or scent mine.
Our teacher continued speaking while I listened quietly.
"The senior students from Lunaris Royal Academy are here to inspect the arena for the upcoming Mooncrest Trials. You already know their uniforms, dark blue with gold lining."
The man I met earlier suddenly came to mind. Could he be one of the senior students from Lunaris Royal Academy?
I remembered noticing the gold lining on his clothes the first time we met. If that was the case, then they must already be here to prepare the arena for the upcoming Mooncrest Trials.
