Chapter 5

SELINA'S POV I returned to our classroom. Ellaine and her friends were already waiting for me. Her friends immediately approached me and grabbed both of my arms. "Take her to the back," Ellaine ordered. They dragged me behind the school once again. Ellaine's face was filled with anger. Of course, this was because of Adrian again. Why was she angry at me? Was I the one who dragged Adrian away so we could talk? When will this hellish life of mine ever end? They brought me to the gym and forced me onto my knees. Two of Ellaine's friends continued holding my arms while Ellaine grabbed my chin and forced me to look at her. "What did Adrian say to you? Tell me!" I glared at her. "When are you going to stop bullying me, Ellaine? You saw it yourself, I wasn't the one who dragged Adrian away. He was the one who pulled me—" "I know! What did you do to him, you witch! Did you make him drink one of your love potions so he'd fall for you too? Tell me!" "Nothing! I didn't give him anything. He wants to kill me. Is that what you wanted to know? He wants to kill me, that's exactly what he told me." Ellaine fell silent, but her eyes remained fixed on mine as if she were trying to decide whether she should believe me. My arms were starting to hurt because they were still being held behind my back by her two friends. "I don't believe you, because if he really wanted to kill you, he would've done it already." I simply let out a breath. "Then ask him yourself. You'll find out eventually. If I tell you what he said to me, he'll kill everyone who hears it. Do you want the two of us to die together?" I said with a grin. "Alright, there are five of you here, which means all five of you will hear what the future Alpha of this pack told me. Then we'll all die together at Adrian's hands—" "Stop! Damn, you witch!" Ellaine shouted. I couldn't help laughing, but my laughter stopped the moment one of her friends hit me on the head with a baseball bat. I immediately felt dizzy from the impact. "You have no right to threaten us. Let's go." Her friends finally let go of me before all of them walked away. I held the back of my head and found blood on my hand. I sat down on one of the benches. The wound healed almost immediately, and I simply wiped away the remaining blood. "Are you really never going to give me a peace?” I quickly looked toward the far end of the gym. I frowned as I tried to make out the figure standing in the darkness. "Who are you?" I asked. Slowly, he stepped out of the shadows, and I instinctively raised an eyebrow the moment I recognized him. Him again? What was he even doing in our pack? He wasn't one of us. "You again?" "Yes, and you again. It seems like no matter where I go in this pack to get some peace and quiet, you're always there," he replied irritably. I let out a dry laugh. Was it somehow my fault that he kept running into me? "I walked away from my companions because I wanted some peace, but you keep disturbing it. Why don't you just slit your bullies' throats?" he asked. I sat down on the bench. "I wish it were that easy," I answered quietly. No one wanted me in this pack. Even the mate the Moon Goddess had given me, the one who was supposed to stand beside me, didn't want me either. I no longer knew where I belonged. I didn't even know where I came from, or who my real parents were, if I even had any. If I ever found them, would I finally have peace? Would they accept me? Would they love me? I was the unwanted one in this pack. "Do you want me to kill them for you?" he asked. I looked at him. His face was completely serious, as though joking wasn't even part of his vocabulary. "Who are you, and what are you doing here?" I asked, because I kept seeing him everywhere. "If you can't even stand up to your bullies, how do you expect to survive even one fight in the upcoming Mooncrest Trials? Every student dreams of getting into Lunaris Royal Academy. Aren't you interested?" I didn't answer him. If I somehow managed to make it into the Top 10 and enter Lunaris Royal Academy, would I finally be able to live in peace there? "Maxwell, we're leaving. We've been looking for you." Both of us turned toward the man walking in our direction. Before he could even reach us, I had already walked away. So Maxwell really was his name, because that was the second time I had heard someone call him that. I was about to leave the gym when I suddenly stopped. I instinctively clutched my chest as a sharp pain shot through my heart. What is happening? "Ah..." I groaned. The pain was almost unbearable. I gripped the door tightly to support myself, but it felt as though my heart was being ripped out of my chest. Tears nearly filled my eyes. There was only one explanation. My mate was having s*x with another woman. "f**k," I whispered. The pain drained every ounce of strength from my body. I slowly sat down beside the doorway. It felt like I was about to lose consciousness from the agony. Was this his plan all along? Was this why he refused to reject me? By sleeping with another woman, he could make me suffer because of the mate bond. I clenched my fists. If I wanted revenge, then I should sleep with another man too. But I wasn't that kind of woman. The pain in my chest lasted for almost half of an hour. Was he happy seeing me like this? Was he enjoying what he was doing? I thought that once I found my mate, I'd finally have someone on my side. Instead, he turned out to be the one who would hurt me the most. "Hey, Miss. Are you okay?" I could barely hear the man standing in front of me. I slowly lifted my head to look at him. Another unfamiliar face. Who was he? I tried to stand, but before I could even steady myself, my body gave out. I waited to hit the hard floor, but instead I felt a pair of warm arms catch me. After that, darkness completely consumed me. I slowly opened my eyes when I regained consciousness. I looked around and saw nothing but white. Slowly, I sat up and leaned against the headrest. I was still at school, but I was in the clinic. "I'm glad you're awake. How are you feeling?" the nurse asked. "Who brought me here?" I asked. The nurse immediately smiled. "You won't believe me when I tell you who carried you here. He's a senior student from Lunaris Royal Academy, and he's unbelievably handsome. He's so handsome it's almost blinding. He's also the only heir of the Silvermoon Pack, the future Alpha, Damien," she answered excitedly. "You're so lucky, he carried you all the way here," she added, still looking completely smitten. Damien? The future Alpha of the Silvermoon Pack? "Isn't the Silvermoon Pack the largest pack of them all?" I asked in surprise. "Exactly! That's him. You're so lucky," she replied enviously. So the senior students from Lunaris Royal Academy really were here. "What are they doing here?" I asked the nurse. "They're inspecting the arena for the upcoming Mooncrest Trials. All the packs will compete here," she explained. I simply nodded. That made two senior students from Lunaris Royal Academy that I had met. Just like Maxwell, Damien was incredibly handsome, even though I hadn't gotten a good look at his face for very long. I smelled my clothes and noticed the lingering scent of an expensive cologne, even though I never wore perfume myself. It seemed that his scent had been left on my clothes.
