Chapter 6

SELINA'S POV

I didn't attend my next class after what happened. Even though I still had enough time to make it, I chose to just wander around instead. I walked absentmindedly, feeling as though I was simply floating with nowhere to go. Was this what Adrian wanted? Was he refusing to reject me as his mate just so he could keep hurting me by sleeping with other women?

The pain I felt earlier had completely drained all the strength from my body. Until he marked me, we wouldn't be able to hear each other's thoughts, so I had no idea what he was planning to do to me. There was no way he would accept me as his Luna when I was wolfless and no one even knew if I was truly a wolf or some other kind of creature.

I sat down on a bench after getting tired from walking. I looked down and saw several students below me, but they were wearing different uniforms. I looked around and only then did I realize that I had wandered into the Arena.

Were they the students from Lunaris Royal Academy? What exactly were they inspecting in the Arena? They had been here for almost a week checking every corner of this place.

I instinctively held my chest when I suddenly felt a sharp sting in my heart. What was Adrian doing now? What else was he planning just to hurt me? Was he planning to kill me before rejecting me as his mate?

I couldn't possibly be human, because even without a wolf, I still had a mate.

"What are you doing here?" I looked up when someone spoke beside me. My brows furrowed slightly when I recognized him. He was the man who had been watching me at my training ground. He sat down beside me while I turned my gaze back to the Arena.

"Don't you have classes? Why are you hanging around here? Are you hiding a weapon somewhere for the upcoming Mooncrest Trials?" I shot him an irritated look. What did he take me for? Did he really think I would cheat just to win and earn a place at Lunaris?

"I'm not that kind of person," I answered. So that was why they had been inspecting the entire Arena so carefully. They were making sure no one had hidden any weapons here.

"You still have classes, so what are you doing here? What are you planning? Are you one of those students who's willing to do anything just to win?" I let out a dry laugh.

"Search me if you want, maybe then you'll believe I didn't bring anything. You really look down on people like us. That's easy for someone like you to say, you were lucky enough to be born to parents who hold high positions in the werewolf world. Getting into the best school isn't difficult for someone like you. Do you honestly think your life would still be this good if your parents weren't standing behind you? You're all so arrogant, when in reality you're just hiding behind your parents. You're only this fearless because everyone is afraid of who your parents are," I said irritably before standing up. I just wanted to get away so I could finally have some peace, clear my mind, and rest for a while, yet he came over just to look down on me and accuse me.

"So you're saying you're not interested in getting into Lunaris?" he asked, even though my back was already facing him. Honestly, I wasn't. If Ellaine and her friends were chosen instead, maybe my life at this school would finally become peaceful. Adrian was the future Alpha of our pack, whether he competed in the Mooncrest Trials or not, he would still be able to study at Lunaris.

"That's none of your business," I answered before finally walking away. I was about to leave when I almost bumped into another man.

"Oh, you're the girl who passed out in the gym. Are you feeling better now? What are you doing here?" Damien asked. I found myself staring at his face. I couldn't explain what I was feeling whenever I looked at him. Why did it feel like there was some kind of connection between us?

He frowned as he studied my face seriously.

"Are you okay?" he asked.

"Thank you for bringing me to the clinic earlier," I said gratefully before walking past him. I had a feeling he continued watching me leave, but I didn't look back. I skipped all of my classes for the rest of the day. My heart still ached because of what had happened.

If I rejected Adrian first, would the Moon Goddess still give me a second chance mate? I let out another deep sigh. Did I even need a mate anymore? If he was only going to hurt me the way Adrian did, then I didn't need a second mate. Once I finished my studies, I would leave this pack and live among humans instead. Maybe I'd finally find peace there.

When Dad picked us up after school, I immediately noticed how happy Ellaine looked. Her smile was different today, as though something wonderful had happened to her. Could she have been the woman Adrian slept with earlier?

Then again, the two of them were always together.

"Selina, are you okay?" Dad asked. I looked at him.

"Yes, Dad. I'm fine," I answered.

"It looks like she doesn't even want to study anymore, Dad. You're just wasting your money on her. She skipped all her classes today," Ellaine reported, making Dad look at me again.

"Is that true? You're not like that, Selina. Did something happen? I know how badly you want to study, and you wouldn't skip classes without a reason. Tell me, what happened to you?" I couldn't exactly tell him that my mate had broken my heart. I simply shook my head.

"I just needed to rest, Dad. I passed out in the gym earlier and woke up in the clinic. I wasn't in the mood to attend the rest of my classes."

"Are you not feeling well? If you weren't feeling well, then you shouldn't have gone to school this morning."

"I'm fine, Dad. Don't worry about me," I replied.

"Tss, that's just an excuse, Dad. She simply doesn't want to study anymore," Ellaine interrupted.

"Stop it, Ellaine. Are you still bullying your sister? You live under the same roof and you grew up together. Is what I heard true? Are you really the one leading everyone in bullying and hurting your sister?" Ellaine shot me an annoyed glare. I simply rolled my eyes. Was she going to blame me again? Was she going to accuse me of telling Dad everything?

"What lies did you tell Dad this time? Did you run to him again?" she snapped at me.

"It wasn't Selina who told me, it was the students from your school. So it's true? What exactly are you so angry about? She's your sister. You should be the one protecting her."

"We're not sisters, Dad!" Ellaine shouted angrily. "We don't share the same blood. She's not Mom's daughter, so stop forcing me to treat her like she's my sister! She's a weirdo! We don't even know, maybe she's one of those monsters! Do whatever you want. I'll just go home by myself!" she yelled before getting out of the car and slamming the door shut.

"Ellaine! Come back here!" Dad shouted after her, but she never looked back. Dad and I drove home without Ellaine.

While we were on the road, I suddenly clutched my chest again.

"Fuck... it hurts," I whispered. It felt like my heart was being crushed all over again. f**k you, Adrian. You're doing it again.
