SELINA’S POV
I was already at the arena, waiting for my name to be called. I watched the other students who were still fighting below. All of them were determined to win and have a chance to enter Lunaris Royal Academy.
Even if you were an omega and managed to win the Mooncrest Trial, you could still enter Lunaris. They did not discriminate because what mattered to them was that you were able to win.
They were all skilled, and all of them had shifted into their wolves. Ellaine’s fight had already ended, and she managed to win, but her battle there was not over yet. The winners still had to fight each other until only ten remained and were chosen to enter Lunaris Royal Academy.
“Are you nervous now? Do you think you can enter Lunaris Royal Academy?” Ellaine sat beside me. Did they really have nothing better to do with their lives while they were waiting for their fights? I was the one they noticed again.
I moved away from their usual seats, but they still found me here in my spot. Adrian also sat down beside me.
“You only have one fight, and you’ll definitely be eliminated.” Adrian looked down on me, but I did not answer them anymore.
“Why don’t you just withdraw, Selina? Just think about your life. Fight again once your wolf comes out. Where is your wolf anyway? Maybe it was also too scared to come out because you’re useless?” Was bullying me really their source of happiness? I had already been through so much because of them that I was no longer afraid of them.
“Think about it carefully, Selina. Do you really want to die?” I glared at Ellaine in annoyance, while she smiled at me mockingly.
“Are you really not going to leave me alone? I haven’t done anything to you for you to hate me. If you don’t like me, why don’t you just stay away from me? Why can’t you just leave me alone?” Her teeth clenched.
“You haven’t done anything to me? You’ve done plenty, Selina. Ever since you came into our family, you’ve been taking away everything that I have! The attention and love that should have been meant only for me, you took that too. The toys and clothes that were meant for me were even given to you!”
“Ellaine, our parents love us equally. You’re the only one who thinks that I’m taking their attention away from you. If you don’t remember, you were always the one our parents put first before. I wore your old clothes. Whenever you wanted them to buy you something new, our parents gave it to you. I was the one who received your old things because it would be wasteful, and I was also too embarrassed to ask them to buy me anything, especially since I’m not their real daughter. So where are all these things you’re saying coming from?” I told her. Her eyes widened even more as she glared at me. I never took anything away from her because the truth was, whenever they gave me something new before, she would take it away from me, so I was the one who ended up using her old things.
“I want you gone. I hope you die in the Mooncrest Trial. I’ll even be happy if that happens.” She spoke irritably.
“Just do your best in the fight. I’ll be one of the people who will be happy if you make it into the top 10 because it only means my life will finally become peaceful once you’re all gone from here, so good luck. Do your best.” I told her, which only made her more irritated.
She did not say anything anymore as she stood up.
“Let’s go, Adrian.” She called Adrian, then the two of them left. I could only shake my head at them. Did they hate me just because I was adopted? They hated me even more when I turned 12 and my wolf still had not appeared.
I could only let out a sigh. Did she really not feel even a little bit of love for me as her sister? Did she really think that I was taking everything that was supposed to be hers?
I did not know how many fights had already ended when I heard the announcer’s voice again.
"Next match! Representing Shadowfang Pack... Selina Montecarlos!" I heard my name. The students who knew me started booing.
“BOOOO, it’s the wolfless girl!” They laughed, as if it were a huge joke that I was still participating in the Mooncrest Trial even though I still did not have a wolf.
I stood up from my seat and headed toward the arena. I could feel everyone’s eyes on me, especially those who knew me from Shadowfang Pack.
"Wolfless."
"Does she really think she can win? Is she trying to make us laugh?"
"She’s just going to die. She should have just chosen to find a job instead."
Their whispers continued, but I ignored them. I was already used to their constant insults toward me for being wolfless. What I was fighting for here was my dream of finishing my education, not entering the top 10 so I could study at Lunaris Royal Academy.
"Representing Ironclaw Pack... Rylan Cross!" My opponent was called as well. The students throughout the arena cheered again, especially those from my pack. I was going to fight a man, which meant he had twice the strength of a woman.
I no longer felt afraid. Maybe if their bullying had helped me in any way, it was that my body had become accustomed to fighting.
A tall man entered the arena, and he was already looking at me. He gave me a challenging smile, as if he already knew that he would win this fight.
"So you're the wolfless girl in Shadowfang Pack? You sure have a lot of guts to join this." He taunted me. I did not answer him. I simply observed his every movement because I was certain he would attack me at any moment.
"The match begins in three... two... one... Fight!"
The final count had not even completely ended when he quickly charged at me. He immediately threw a powerful punch. I slightly turned, and his fist was only a few inches away from hitting my cheek, but because I managed to dodge, it passed beside my face.
At the same time, I quickly drove my elbow into his side. I heard him groan in pain, but he still charged at me. Every time he threw a punch at me, I blocked it. His eyes were filled with anger, and he was desperate to win our fight.
I delivered a low kick to his knee, then punched him in the stomach and another one to his jaw. He stumbled backward from the consecutive blows I landed on him. He angrily spat out blood from the wound on his lip.
“After all those attacks from Rylan, she hasn’t even been hit?” I heard the students whispering.
‘Make sure that man doesn’t hurt you because I will kill him the moment he does.’ My eyebrows furrowed when I heard the voice in my mind. Who linked with me? Was that Maxwell’s voice? What was he doing?
I did not take my eyes off Rylan even though I was distracted by the voice I could hear in my mind.
My opponent smirked as he wiped the side of his lips.
"Not bad." He spoke, but his teeth were already clenched in anger. He would surely become even more aggressive.
