Chapter 23

1401 Words
SELINA’S POV I focused only on his every move. He was staring intently at me as well, as if he could not accept that I had managed to land every attack I threw at him. “You’re good, but this is where your courage ends. You just got lucky with all those hits you landed on me.” He said before suddenly letting out a howl, I knew he was ready to shift. “Wolf form!” the students shouted excitedly. His body slowly began to change, thick fur started growing all over him, and I could see his fangs getting longer. His body grew larger until he completely turned into a massive gray wolf. The entire arena erupted into even louder cheers. “What is she doing? Isn’t she going to shift?” the students who did not know me whispered again. “She’s dead,” the students from my pack said excitedly. I did not take my eyes off him. If we were talking about strength, I had no chance of winning, but I had to fight if I wanted to survive and leave the arena alive. Surely, if he bit me and threw me around, my body would be in terrible shape. I needed to be more alert. He quickly charged at me. He was so fast that he was almost invisible to the naked eye. The moment he was about to bite me, I quickly ducked underneath him and grabbed his fur, causing him to howl in pain. He became even angrier and charged at me again, but I jumped high and landed on his back. I locked both my legs around his neck and twisted my body, causing both of us to roll across the ground. He quickly got back on his feet, and I did the same. When he jumped at me, I slid across the ground and passed underneath him. Before he could get past me, I grabbed his tail, swung him around with all my strength, and let go. I heard his wolf groan when his back slammed against the wall after he crashed onto the ground. Before he could recover, I quickly ran toward him. He had not even gotten back on his feet when I locked my arms around his neck. I did not let go until he signaled his defeat. He was already struggling to breathe because of the chokehold I had him in. I could not hear any noise from the spectators. My opponent shifted back into his human form and slammed his hand against the ground three times, signaling his defeat. I released him afterward. His companions quickly covered him with a piece of cloth. He weakly stood up and looked at me in disbelief. “You’re a wolfless, but you have incredible strength. Who are you?” he asked. I did not answer him because I was still trying to catch my breath. I could hear my own breathing because of our fight. "The winner... Selina Montecarlos of Shadowfang Pack!" the announcer announced. I did not hear any noise, no one was happy for me. It was as if it were a mistake that I had won even though I did not have a wolf. “She didn’t even shift, what if she had shifted?” the students from the other packs whispered. “Does she only rely on her strength?” they continued, as if they could notbelieve the strength I possessed. I left the arena, and everyone’s eyes were on me. Some were amazed by my skills, while others simply stared blankly. Those from my own pack were silent because this was the first time they had seen me fight. “You’re amazing, do you have alpha blood?” someone from the other pack asked me, but I did not answer them. I gained my skills and strength through training. If I did not have a wolf and did not know how to fight, I probably would have died from their bullying a long time ago. Before I could leave the arena, Maxwell was already standing at the exit. His eyebrows were furrowed again. What was his problem this time? “Good thing you didn’t let that bastard hurt you.” He said. I could not tell if he was worried or angry. He was so difficult to understand, but wait. “You were the one who linked with me earlier, right?” I asked him irritably. I did not know how he managed to link with me when I never even answered him. “Don’t do that again while I’m fighting, Maxwell. You’re distracting me, and because of what you’re doing, I could lose my focus and give my opponent a chance to hurt me.” I told him. “Are you okay?” His voice had softened. I could only shake my head because it seemed like he was not listening to anything I was telling him. I did not answer him and walked past him. “I’m asking you, Selina.” “I want to rest because I still have many fights that I can’t back out of.” I answered him blankly. I stopped walking when he quickly stepped in front of me. “I just want to know if you’re okay.” Was he worried about me? I could not understand him. He was so difficult to read because sometimes he would get angry at me, and other times he would suddenly worry about me. “I’m fine, now can you please move out of my way?” I answered him before walking past him. I did not wait for him to move aside. “Maxwell,” I heard Damien calling him, but I did not look back at them. “Do you like her? I’ve been noticing how seriously you were watching her while she was in the arena. Are you worried about her? Don’t tell me you’ve fallen in love with someone who isn’t your mate?” Damien teased him, but once I had gotten farther away from them, I could no longer hear them. I looked for a quiet place where I could rest. I wanted to sleep so I could regain my strength, but surely, I would not make it out alive if the students got the chance to kill me. I sighed when I ran into Adrian and Ellaine again. Why were they always there wherever I went? Adrian was looking at me with a smirk. “Your opponent was still weak, Selina. Don’t celebrate too early just because you won today.” “Who told you I was already celebrating?” I replied irritably. Ellaine approached me and pulled me along. “Where are you taking me now?” “Just follow me.” She answered irritably. She held my hand tightly. I simply followed her so whatever she wanted to tell me would be over with. When she thought there was no one around who could hear the two of us, she turned to face me. “How did you meet Damien and Maxwell? Do you even know who they are, huh? Are you flirting with them, especially Maxwell?!” I let out a dry laugh at what she said. “Why do you even care, Ellaine? Isn’t Adrian the one you want? You want to become the Luna of Shadowfang Pack, right? So why are you looking at Damien and Maxwell now? Even if I were seducing them, what does that have to do with you?” Her teeth clenched as she grabbed my arm tightly. Her claws dug into my skin. “If they get angry because of you, I’ll kill you, Selina.” She threatened me firmly. I looked at her without caring about what she had said. “Then kill me.” That was my only answer before I removed her grip from my arm. My wounds quickly healed from where her claws had dug into me. What did she want? Did she want every man to like her? I could only shake my head. If there was a flirt between the two of us, it was her. She had not even waited to find out who her mate would be. She wanted to be Adrian’s Luna, and now did she want to add Damien and Maxwell to her list? Did she really think everyone would like her? Tsss.
