Chapter Two

The question hung in the air like a heavy weight. “Who is the father?” Sol’s voice echoed through the Great Hall, shaking the pillars. Heat poured from his body, making the air shimmer around him. He stepped forward toward Selene, his golden armor glowing brighter with every step. “Answer me”, he demanded. “Give me his name. What is stopping you?” He let out a loud laughter “Right, you are afraid” Selene remained silent. It wasn’t because she was afraid. It wasn’t because she was ashamed. She knew that the moment she spoke his name -she revealed the identity of her beloved prince in the High Court- she would be signing his death warrant. If the gods discovered the identity of the werewolf prince she once loved, Sol would burn his kingdom to the ground before another sunrise. She gently placed her hand over her stomach and lowered her eyes. She would rather protect him than see him die. Even if it cost her everything. "Speak!" Sol roared, his hand catching the hilt of his sun-forged blade. "Do you still intend to protect the one who broke Heaven’s oldest law? Speak his name, Selene!" "Oh, let her breathe, Sol," a voice chimed in, dripping with absolute amusement.” At this rate, you’ll melt her dress before she answers.” From his throne of shifting shadows, the God of Chaos leaned forward, resting his chin on his palm. His eyes gleamed with a chaotic, mismatched light—one gold, one violet. He had been watching the drama unfold with the giddy anticipation of a child watching a spark catch on dry tinder. "She won't tell you," Chaos purred, a slow, wicked grin spreading across his face. "But honestly… Why ask her? The forests gossip better than the gods. The wind has been carrying the same story for months… and it howls." Selene’s eyes widened. She looked at Chaos, her heart freezing in her chest. "What are you saying, Chaos?" the Sea God demanded, his deep voice rumbling like an incoming tsunami. "Speak plainly." Chaos stood up, throwing his hands out dramatically. "You still don’t get it…I’m saying our pristine, untouchable Moon Goddess didn't just fall for a human. She didn't choose a king, or a scholar, or even a priest who worships her. No, she chose a beast. A creature of claws, fur, and blood. The father of her child is a werewolf. A mortal prince of the wild." A collective gasp rippled through the grand hall, followed by a deafening uproar. The revelation was a devastating blow. To the proud deities of the Divine Council, mortals were beneath them—but werewolves? Werewolves were creatures of instinct, beasts born of the earth's raw, untamed magic. For the Guardian of Fate, the elegant Mistress of the Moon, to lay with a beast was a betrayal of their very bloodline. Sol’s face went completely pale, his golden eyes wide with an unspeakable horror. A werewolf. Of all the beings in creation. She had chosen a werewolf. The goddess he had loved for thousands of years… The goddess he had hoped would one day stand beside him… Had given her heart to a beast born of the earth. His hands slowly curled into his fists. The disbelief faded. Then came the rage. "An abomination," Sol whispered, his voice trembling before rising to a deafening shriek. "A literal beast! You have dragged the purity of the heavens into the mud, Selene!" He turned sharply to the empty celestial throne, then to the remaining seven gods. "I put forth a motion!" Sol declared, his voice echoing with absolute authority. "The Moon Goddess has committed the ultimate transgression. She has betrayed her divine essence with the blood of a beast. I demand she be stripped of her title immediately! Sever her connection to the moon, rip her celestial mark from her flesh, and banish her to the mortal dirt as a powerless, fragile human!" "No!" the Goddess of Life cried out, standing up from her vine-draped throne. "Sol, this is madness! To strip a goddess of her divinity and cast her down while she carries a child? It is a death sentence! The mortal realm is harsh, and without her magic, she will not survive. We must show mercy. Love is not a crime that warrants destruction!" "It is not love; it is treason!" Sol barked back, his aura flaring so brightly that several lesser spirits in the gallery had to shield their eyes. "She has broken the First Law! If we do not punish her, what is to stop the other realms from rebelling? What is to stop the balance from collapsing entirely?" The Star Goddess stepped forward, her voice trembling but resolute. "We have no precedent for this, Sol. You cannot simply strip a Great Deity of her throne on your sole command. The Moon Throne belongs to her by cosmic right. To sever her from the moon is to throw the tides, the dreams, and the night itself into absolute chaos!" "Then let it burn!" Sol snarled, his obsession blinding him to the consequences. "I will oversee the night in her absence if I must. But she cannot remain among us." The argument erupted. The Goddess of Life and the Star Goddess stood firmly by Selene’s side, while Sol and several lesser deities who feared his wrath demanded her immediate execution or banishment. The Sea God paced, worried about the terrestrial oceans, while the God of Chaos laughed warmly at the beautiful, unfolding disaster. Through it all, the God of Death remained silent, a chilling shadow watching the gods tear themselves apart. "Enough!" The word was quiet, yet it carried a weight that instantly silenced the room. The God of Time slowly opened his eyes. They were completely white, swirling with the sands of past, present, and future. "This council is divided," the God of Time said, his voice ancient and hollow. "Two of the Great Eight demand her exile. Two defend her. The rest remain undecided or amused. We cannot pass judgment on a cosmic pillar of existence with a divided court. The laws of the Creator are absolute: when the Eight cannot agree on a matter that threatens the balance of all realms, the verdict must be decided by the Great Consensus." Sol gripped his sword, his jaw clenching. "The Consensus? That would require opening the gates of Heaven." "Yes," the God of Time replied, staring directly into Sol’s eyes. "If we are to decide the fate of the Moon, we cannot do it in secret. We must invite every being of the cosmos. Every lesser deity, every elemental spirit, every guardian of the lower realms, and every representative of the mortal domains. They must all bear witness. The final judgment will be decided by the highest number of souls." Selene looked up, her heart pounding. The Great Consensus had not been called since the dawn of creation. It would bring millions of spirits to the gates of Heaven. Sol stared at Selene, then at his own glowing hands. He was the Sun God. His influence was vast, his power feared across every realm. He was confident he could sway the masses to his side. "So be it," Sol sneered, a cruel smirk playing on his lips. "Summon them. Summon every soul in the cosmos to witness her shame. Let the universe watch as we cast the fallen goddess into the dirt." He turned to Selene, a cruel smile on his face. “ In three days… The Moon Goddess will be judged before the entire universe.”
