The phone rang again at 11:47 PM. Kassie stared at Daniel’s name lighting up her screen for the eighth time since she’d hung up on him two hours earlier. She let it ring through to voicemail, just like the seven calls before it. Her phone buzzed with a text message. *Kassie, please. Don’t shut me out. We can fix this.* Then another. *I know you’re scared. I know I hurt you before. But this is different.* And another. *Please just talk to me. Five minutes. That’s all I’m asking.* She turned her phone face down on the coffee table, but the buzzing continued. Message after message, each one more desperate than the last. *I’m not giving up on us.* *Emma needs both of us. You know that.* *I love you. I love her. That has to count for something.* At 12:30 AM, Kassie finally picked up
