# Lee’s Homecoming - Revised Kassie stood in her driveway, shielding her eyes from the afternoon sun, watching the cab pull up. The back door opened, and Lee stepped out in his dress blues. Her oldest. Her son. Home from the Marines. She’d been holding it together all morning, determined not to cry the second she saw him. That lasted approximately three seconds. “Mom,” Lee said, dropping his duffel bag and catching her as she launched herself at him. “You’re home. You’re actually home.” “I’m home.” He held her tight, and Kassie felt years of worry and fear and pride all hit her at once. Lee had enlisted right out of high school.
