The week after they got home from Six Flags, Kassie showed her ring to everyone. Sarah squealed and hugged her. Marie cried happy tears. Aaron gave Daniel an awkward handshake that turned into a hug. Emma told everyone at school that her mom was getting married.
Lee called from his base in San Diego. “Mom, that’s amazing. I’m happy for you.”
“You sure? It’s a lot.”
“If this is what you want then yes, I’m sure.”
Even David, when he picked up Aaron and Marie that weekend, offered a genuine congratulations. “I hope you guys are really happy,” he said. And he seemed to mean it.
