Prologue

Liu.

It meant to kill and destroy.

The last name of the Emperors of the Han Dynasty.

A Chinese last name is the fourth most common in China, and a surname can be found in Korea, Japan, and Vietnam.

The name of the character Liu Qingge in The Scum Villian's Self-Saving System, along with many other pieces of media.

It was the last name of her adopted father.

It was also the last name of the person who cursed her.

The last two points were about the same person.

His name was also Liu Qingge, and his actual name was Liu Ying.

But to her, he was Fuqin, had been since she was a small child and he realised the depth of her DNA donators hatred for her. At the end of the day, her sperm donor used her to steal from him and evade being cursed. But when she returned it, her egg donor got mad at her, screaming at her for hours about how it was her fault that he was in a towering rage. And that if she hadn't been born, she wouldn't be stuck in this mess in the first place with three children at 29.

Onto healthier thoughts, she thought to herself packing away her belongings into a Qiankun bag, it was useful to have. Since she could fit her entire London apartment into it for her move to America to continue her studies.

What did she know about curses? she thought.

Not a lot.

The curse she was given had given her the ability to see the dead, which was useful for the career that she wanted to pursue. But not all curses were as useful as her own was, for starters, the curse usually depended on the person doing the cursing and they were more often than not influenced by the mythology with which they grew up.

"Liu Qinglian," Liu Qingge said.

"I'm finishing in my bedroom," she answered.

Liu Qinglian was something that only Fuqin called her, along with anyone in his family. It meant Clear Lotus like his name meant Clear Song.

Anyway, her new legal name was Cynthia Qinglian Liu, had been since she was nine years old. Liu Qingge had gotten her DNA donators to sign over their patrental rights shotly after he had cursed her in her sperm donors place.

Once those papers were through her name was changed from Ethel Ann Cheshire rather quickly.

There was anything to be done about said curse, even though Liu Qingge had wanted to do something about it. He's wanted to remove it for years, but only her sperm donor could remove it because he had to show remose over what he had done to get her cursed in the first place.

Not even his death could remove it.

She was grateful he had adopted her. Since afterwards, it wasn't just her name that changed, everything did. She went from Mainstream schooling to being home-schooled, it had allowed her to graduate from school early and enter University when Liu Qingge had deemed her ready.

"I've registered," Cynthia said putting her Qiankun bag into her carry-on bag, one thing she had to do in America, Australia and the UK was register that she was cursed.

She had to write down what her curse was.

Cynthia was looking forward to studying under Doctor Elizabeth Baker at the National Museum of Science. Sure, Doctor Baker was young, but she was well-known and well-respected and didn't care that Cynthia was cursed only that she was a hard worker and knew what she was doing.

"Of course," Liu Qingge said.

Cynthia smiled accepting his hug. It would be odd, being in America where she couldn't just go to another country for the weekend. Could just spend time with Liu Qingge as Fuqin and Nǚ'ér at a French bakery or go down into the Paris Catacombs trying to guess the ages of the skulls that made up the walls.

"Nervous, Qinglian?" Liu Qingge asked.

"I was away with the fairies again, huh?" Cynthia asked then she registered Liu Qingge's question, "I'm a bit nervous, but, I'm looking forward to what I'm going to learn."
