Eric and Carlton were making their customary early morning walk-through of the grounds, and Eric was staring at the house.
“Looks like they’re tearing down the galleries,” he said.
“Yeah. Those wooden galleries are totally exposed to the weather, and that makes them the most vulnerable part of the house. They needed to be replaced.”
“I hope you’re using treated lumber.”
“We’re doing much better than that.”
“Really?” Eric said.
“Yeah. They’re going to install an aluminum framework, and the floorboards will be teak.”
“Teak is what they use for the decks of sailboats, isn’t it?”
“Yeah. It’s very hard, extremely attractive, and highly water resistant. It’s also very expensive, but well worth the money. We won’t have to worry about rotted boards on the galler
