My heart in my mouth, I sat silent for a moment digesting Vincent's words. Alastair's reluctance to answer my questions and the subdued manner of the soldier's now made a lot of sense. My knees threatened to buckle underneath me. I was grateful that I was already sitting on a chair. Vincent had said the injury was minor. That word was subjective. He may have downplayed the extent of Kane's injuries just not to upset me. What if he was bleeding right as spoke, or what if- the goddess forbid- he were mortally wounded and was bleeding to death?
