Alastair stood there, apparently lost in thought and staring into space, his arms crossed across his chest. I studied his face carefully. He did not seem happy to be there. I wondered why he had come a day after we had arrived here. If he were to come on the trip at all, why did he not accompany my father and I? "Alastair," I called.
