Chapter 2

1002 Words
Maxene snatched the microphone directly from the master of ceremonies and shouted to the entire room, "Everyone, look closely! This woman, relying on her decent looks, used every trick in the book to seduce my husband. My husband had never dealt with such a desperate kiss-ass and accidentally fell for her trap. Luckily, I caught her in time! As his future wife, I am going to reclaim everything for my husband!" At her words, the Ellsworth family relatives all stood up in uproar. A fat woman dripping in heavy gold jewelry rushed straight up to me, spitting in rage. "Ugh! You b***h!" Mrs. Ellsworth cursed, lunging forward. "Take a look in the mirror before trying to steal a husband from my daughter! If I don't teach you a lesson, you'll think my daughter is an easy target!" As Mrs. Ellsworth spoke, she reached out her thick fingers to grab my hair. I stepped aside gracefully to dodge her clumsy grip. "I told you, Dominic and I aren't in the relationship you think," I stated firmly. "Will you let me finish speaking?" I pulled my phone out of my clutch, intending to call Dominic and have him come out to explain everything himself. But before I could dial his number, Maxene snatched the phone right out of my hand. "b***h, you still dare to call backup!" she yelled, slamming my phone forcefully onto the hard floor. The screen instantly shattered into pieces. A wave of loud jeers erupted from the crowd below. "Maxene, why waste words on a woman like her!" someone shouted from the tables. "Make her return Dominic's money with interest!" I rubbed my temples in frustration. I had always preferred peace and quiet. To protect me from being bothered by intrusive media reporters and business rivals, my husband, a commercial titan, had kept my identity strictly confidential. Not a single photo of me could be found anywhere online. Even when my son arranged a dinner for both families to meet, my husband had attended alone. It was completely normal for these people not to recognize me. Seeing that I remained silent, Mrs. Ellsworth assumed I was frightened. She looked at me with a triumphant, arrogant expression. "Speak! How much money did you scam from my son-in-law in total? Hand it all over to my daughter! Otherwise, I'll strip off all your clothes!" She grabbed the collar of my gown and yanked hard. With a sharp tearing sound, a large rip opened across my top. My gaze instantly turned cold, and I reached out, grabbing Mrs. Ellsworth's wrist in a vise-like grip. Mrs. Ellsworth immediately let out an exaggerated shriek. "Ouch! Help! The mistress is hitting people! Where are the security guards? Are you all dead? Pin this woman down right now!" A dozen security guards in black suits swarmed the area, surrounding me in the center. Looking at my torn collar, Maxene's eyes involuntarily drifted to my fair, smooth skin. Even though I was middle-aged, my figure had never gone out of shape. It remained full, firm, and elegant. My skin was as delicate as that of a woman in her twenties. Maxene subconsciously straightened her posture, a faint trace of jealousy flashing in her eyes. Then, her gaze landed on the Hermès bag in my hand. Her eyes lit up, and she snatched the bag from my grip. "Did you scam my husband into buying this bag for you too?" I looked at her coldly. "What if I did, and what if I didn't?" Maxene held the bag high, scanning my exposed neckline with disdain. "A gold digger who begs men for clothes can afford a multi-million-dollar bag like this? This bag was definitely bought with my husband's money! As Mrs. Hollis, I have the right to reclaim every single cent Dominic spent on her!" She sounded completely righteous, and her self-righteous attitude made me laugh out of sheer anger. This bag had been personally delivered to my door last month by the brand's global CEO just to curry favor with me. Dominic didn't even qualify for the presale allocation list for a handbag of this tier. Mrs. Ellsworth piped up eagerly from the side, "Daughter, stop wasting words with her! See what else is valuable inside and take it all back! There's no need to be polite to a shameless woman like her!" Maxene turned the bag upside down, unzipped it, and gave it a violent shake. A Tom Ford lipstick, custom perfume created for me by Chanel's private perfumer, a Patek Philippe car key, my ID card, and an unlimited Centurion Black Card all tumbled out onto the floor with a clatter. Maxene's expression darkened, and she picked up the car key directly. "Needless to say, he bought this car for you too. Since I caught you today, you're returning every last bit of it." I could no longer suppress the rage inside me, my face darkening completely. "Maxene Ellsworth, call Dominic Hollis right now and tell him to get his ass out here to see me!" Maxene rolled her eyes contemptuously. "Who do you think you are to order my husband around? To tell you the truth, Dominic went to pick up the Chairman! When the Chairman arrives and learns you scammed Dominic out of so much money, let me see how he destroys you!" As she spoke, she stomped her foot heavily onto my ID card. "b***h, that's what you get for seducing my husband!" After stomping on it, she gritted her teeth and ground her heel into the plastic for good measure. I stared at my filthy, ruined ID card, my gaze dropping to absolute zero. "Maxene Ellsworth, take your filthy foot off my card!" Maxene cast a contemptuous look at me. "b***h, you seduced my husband and scammed him into spending so much money on you. Treating you like this is already merciful." Mrs. Ellsworth scanned the floor greedily. Suddenly, her eyes caught a wristwatch that had just rolled out from the bag.
