Chapter 6
Denise had no idea what her boss was about to go through. When he called to have her clear his schedule from Thursday and beyond, her heart dropped. She thought he might be leaving the firm. She told him she would look after it. She didn’t want to pry, but she came to love the man as a boss. He was always good to her. She knew he was seeing the hunky doctor Peter, so she decided to make a call. Bernice answered, and after they exchanged pleasantries about their respective bosses, Denise began to sob.
“I think Russell’s going to leave the firm. He’s been so good to me, and he’s such a pleasant man to talk to. Do you think Peter might know why he’s going?”
“Relax, Denise, he’s having a little operation. He’ll be fine. He’ll be so pleased to know you care about him.”
