Nathaniel watched Seven sitting across from him at The Koch’s restaurant. Her thick brown hair was pulled into a messy bun, and her sharp brown eyes were looking straight at him. She crossed her arms across her chest and the look she was giving him wasn't it. Despite her clear hostility, he couldn’t help but admire how beautiful she was.
It had only been a day since he proposed marriage to her parents, yet Seven looked like she wasn't willing.
“I don't like you,” she said.
“You're not the first. I’ll get used to it,” Nathaniel replied.
“No, you don’t understand. I hate you. You killed my brother, and now you want to marry me?”
“Your brother’s death was an accident,” he said, his voice calm. “I regret that night every day even if I don't remember what happened, trust me I do. If I could change it, I would.”
Seven scoffed. “Of course you would.”
Nathaniel knew this wasn’t going to be an easy marriage, but he wasn’t backing down. He needed to stop the rumors about his sexuality, and Seven needed to save her father’s restaurant.
“You need this marriage as much as I do,” he continued. “This restaurant is your father’s legacy. You know Six would’ve done anything to save it.”
“You know nothing about my brother,” Seven snapped.
But Nathaniel was right. If Six was alive, he would have fought to save their father’s business. Seven had already made up her mind, she would go through with the marriage, but not only for the reasons Nathaniel was thinking. She would marry him, get close to him, and expose his corruption. She would make him pay for killing her brother.
“I’ll marry you,” she finally said. “But only for the restaurant. Don’t get any ideas.”
Nathan smirked. “You don’t tell me what to do. Be at the courthouse tomorrow. Don’t be late.”
Before she could say anything, he walked away.
The next day, Seven stared at herself in the mirror. The ivory satin dress clung to her curves, simple yet elegant. A delicate silver chain around her neck caught the light. Nathaniel had sent the dress, jewelry, and even a makeup artist. Everything was perfect, except for the fact that she was marrying her brother’s killer.
A knock at the door.
“The driver’s here,” her mother said.
“I’ll be down in a minute.”
“Seven… Everything is for the best. He already paid off those men.” Suzanne said before leaving.
Seven clenched her jaw. The best? For me, the best is revenge.
She grabbed her bouquet and headed downstairs.
At the courthouse, Nathaniel was already waiting with his grandfather, best friend Jaime, and cousin Kaylee.
“Seven, you’ve met my grandfather. This is Jaime, my best man, and Kaylee, my cousin.”
“Congratulations, sweetheart,” Kaylee said warmly, hugging Seven.
Jaime extended a hand. “Congratulations.”
Seven smiled as she shook it, her mind flashing back to Six’s voicemail,Jaime, the man her brother had trusted.
Inside, they signed the marriage certificate before standing at the altar.
Nathaniel said, “I do.”
“Do you, Seven Blossom Koch, take Nathaniel James Brown as your lawfully wedded husband?”
Seven met Nathaniel’s gaze and smiled sweetly.
“I do.”
She would destroy him.
Nathaniel's Villa was an epitome of luxury and beauty. Seven watched the palm trees roll by as they drove past. The wedding was already over and she was moving into her husband's villa. The car finally packed and she stepped out. An old man whom she knew would be the butler welcomed her and led her into the house. Nathaniel had gone back to the office immediately after the wedding. She met another lady who introduced herself as her personal maid. She was taken to a room which was said to be her room and a closet full of luxury and designer clothes.
“This is your closet ma'am, you are a Brown now and all you have to wear moving forward must be designers” The maid whose name was Lucy said, but she didn't care she just wanted to get this over with.
“Where is Nathaniel’s room?” She asked.
“It's just down the hall, but I've shown you your room and he said you won't be sharing a room for a while,” Lucy said.
“That's right. But it doesn't hurt to know where my husband sleeps” she said, not trying to raise any suspicions.
After that she showers and goes into her closet. There was a lot of designer clothes and night wear, jewelry, nightwear and skin care. She felt like she didn't deserve all this, especially not from the man who killed her brother but she didn't have a choice. The van that was supposed to bring her belongings hadn't arrived and she suspected Nathaniel was behind that. She slipped into one of the silk nightwear and went straight to bed since it was already late.
Two hours later she heard Nathaniel's and Lucy's Voice at the front of her door.
“How's she?” She heard Nathaniel ask Lucy.
“She's great. She hasn't left her room since she came back but I'm sure she will get used to it” Lucy replied.
“Okay,I'm just going to check on her before I go to bed. You're free to leave” Nathan said.
She quickly pretended to be asleep while Nathan opened the door slightly. She heard him come close to her on her bed and removed a strand of her from her face.
“I'm sorry” He muttered before final
ly leaving.
Why was he sorry? She wondered.
