Chapter Three

“That’s it. I believe we’re done for the day,” Inelda announced.  I looked at the skirt in the mirror and it was honestly so beautiful and it was definitely something I would wear. It was flat but I still had enough room to move around and if I spun around it would move. It consisted of two layers. The first layer was pure white silk and it reached the floor far enough to where when I’m walking down the aisle, my shoes wouldn’t be showing. The second layer was pure lace to make the dress less plain than what it already was. If I’m going to be getting married to someone whom I don’t love, my dress would be plain. But then again I had to put in some sort of effort. The lace stopped just an inch before the dress ended and I thought it was just beautiful. I can’t wait to see the finished product. Whenever that may be.  “It looks beautiful. Thank you,” I spoke, as I continued to admire the skirt.  “You’re welcome. We shall finish tomorrow. When you take this off please be careful of the stitching on the lace it’s very fragile,” Jessamine warned, moving a loose strand of hair from her face.  I nodded and carefully stepped off of the stool and gracefully walked into my closet. I have lunch with Damen in ten minutes and he said he had something planned just for the two of us. And when he says that he means he planned something outdoors and I’d be getting dirty. Last time he had something planned we were riding horses and I fell off mine because she saw a rabbit jump from the bushes. I ended up being covered in dust and dirt from the ground and I was in a whole of pain. I couldn’t sit down without my bottom hurting for a week. He made it up to me by bringing me a Danish from his kingdom. His kingdom makes the best Danishes.  My eyes scanned my wardrobe for a dress that I wouldn’t mind messing up and truth to be told I wouldn’t mind messing all of them up. But I have to keep in mind that I have to have some nice dresses to wear for banquets and such. I ended up picking out a plain black dress that stopped just a little beneath my knees and the sleeves reached my elbows. The dress had a sweetheart neckline and I knew I could easily pair it with a teardrop necklace or something. Quickly but carefully stripping myself of half of my wedding gown, I changed into my afternoon attire, and put on a pair of ballet flats. Once I was changed, I set the skirt part of my dress on my bed. My ladies in waiting bowed as I exited my room.  My hands automatically folded in front of me, resting on my lap as I walked to Damen and I’s meeting spot: the library. Walking down the halls, people either bowed or curtsied at me. As I rounded the corner, I could see Damen leaning against the wall next to the door that held countless shelves full of books of different genres. In his right hand, he held a bouquet of roses. My favorite flower.  “Hey i***t,” I chuckled. “Who are the flowers for?”  His head tilted up and he turned my way giving me a small smile. He walked over to me and handed me the flowers. I pulled him into a hug and gave him a friendly kiss on the cheek. Key word being friendly.  “Where have you been mi princesa?” he asked, showing off his straight, pearly white teeth.  “You’re aware that I don’t speak French right?” I asked jokingly.  “The fact that you’d even joke about that being French makes me sad. Extremely sad actually,” he told me.  “Well lucky for you I’m not the one who has to master all these languages. Once you’re king I think that I won’t have to do any heavy lifting and I can just relax,” I smiled as I started to walk to the castle doors.  “If I even become king,” he muttered quietly.  I stopped dead in my tracks, turned on my heel and looked at him. He looked at me, piercing blue eyes staring into my emerald green ones. His eyes scanned the hallway, looking to see if anyone was coming. He then proceeded to push open the large dark colored wooden doors and motioned for me to follow him into the library. I went in first and he followed, closing the creaky doors behind us. Taking a seat on the arm of a tan colored love seat, I set my flowers on the table in front of me and laid my hands in my lap. He leaned against the wall, one black boot against the wall, the other planted on the floor. Our eyes met once more and I could tell something was troubling him.  “Isabelle I-” “What do you mean if you become king?”  “Well I mean before the wedding you’re obviously going to tell Olivia the truth right? I mean you can’t marry me. Then you’ll be unhappy and then you’ll regret not saying anything before it was too late. You and I both know it’s true so don’t even try to deny it.”  I knew he was kind of right but I didn’t want to admit that. But nonetheless he is kind of right. I know that once we are legally married, there’s nothing I can do to win her over. The news would spread across the kingdom. If anyone found out, people would question whether or not I’m even fit to rule if I can’t even manage to stay loyal to my own “husband”.  “I plan to do it before the wedding,” I told him. “I just don’t know when.”  “Well it needs to be soon. We are supposed to be getting married in a little less than a month.” “I’m aware of that Damen. I just… I just wish I could get her alone at these freaking banquets and galas. Maybe I could tell her then.”  “What would you even say to her?” “That’s just the thing. I’m not sure. I honestly don’t even see myself telling her anything if I’m being honest.”  I hung my head low and two feet stood in front of me seconds later. Damen’s index finger and thumb were positioned on my chin, and he gently tilted it up.  “I think you’ll know what to say when the time is really right. You seem to have a way with words I’ve heard your poetry before and it’s actually amazing. Trust me, once you see her and tell her how you feel, there’s just no chance in her rejecting you. I believe you can do this. You just need to breathe and remember that no matter what, you tried. And if she says she doesn’t feel the same way, that’s her loss. She’s the one who’s losing an amazing life partner.”  I smiled. “You know sometimes you give really great advice. Might have to put that in the toast.”  “If we get married,” he smiled back.  I rolled my eyes and stood up. “Right. IF we get married. Now come on what are we eating for lunch? I'm so hungry I could eat a cow.”  Damen looked at me and chuckled. “I just might hold you to that.”  We walked out of the library hand in hand for show, my flowers in my free hand for show. I admit, telling Olivia how I feel will be difficult. Extremely difficult for that matter. But the thing is, I have an amazing friend who’s been like a brother to me in the short time that I’ve known him. He hasn’t steered me wrong yet and I doubt that he ever would.
