I sip my coffee and set the cup down on the table as Denton takes a seat in front of me. He runs a hand through his hair and sighs, “Chris, hey.”
“So, how did it go?”
“About as good as I thought it would. She’s still pissed at me.”
“Well, what did you expect?”
He rubs his bruised jaw and winces, “Not a punch in the face.”
“Just give her time and for God’s sake tone it down on the gifts. She doesn’t want anyone to know about the baby. Not yet.”
“I still can’t f*****g believe this s**t. How did I get myself into this situation?”
“Well…”
“No, don’t answer that. I already know.”
I nod as I take another sip of my coffee.
“Where’s Lilly?”
“She’s over at Alisa’s apartment.”
“Something tells me this isn’t a social call.”
