Trying not to appear to eager, I slowly climbed out the car, grabbed my soda, and double clicked the lock button on the door. I smiled back at Aaron and resisted the urge to fidget with my hair and tank top.
“Hey, you look great. Any chance you brought two of those?” Aaron asked.
I took a slow sip and tried not to blush again. “Sorry, I should’ve asked if you wanted one. But, we can share if you’d like, “ I said as I awkwardly thrust the can at him.
“Ha, no that’s ok. Maybe I could take you to dinner later and grab a drink then?”
It seemed really unfair that he was relaxed and cool while my heart threatened to leap out of my chest. Dang, why was this boy so cute?
I started to walk down the sidewalk as I argued internally with myself over whether or not I should ask my dad. Then, I argued over whether or not I should clarify again that he and his ex were done as Miranda’s texts plagued my mind. Ah, s**t. Miranda.
“Hey, are you ok? I didn’t mean to be too forward,” Aaron said nervously.
“Oh, no. I’d love to. Just nervous about my dad is all. Also, would you mind if I messaged Miranda back really quick?”
I pulled out my phone and quickly fired off a message apologizing telling Miranda that I was hanging out with Aaron and would call her afterwards to fill her in. Then, I sent my dad a quick text saying I’d be gone for dinner because Miranda’s parents had offered to feed me. It wasn’t uncommon for me to just end up staying the whole weekend with Miranda in an effort to avoid my dad when my mom was working late, so I didn’t think he’d really question it.
I pulled myself back to reality and quickly did a once-over of Aaron. He looked so good in his khaki shirt and white v-neck t-shirt that seemed to hug his broad shoulders and taper down his body in just the right way. I felt my body get hot as I thought about pulling him in for a hug and those abs against my body. Fighting a blush for a third time, I coughed into my hand and then asked Aaron if he had any fun plans for the weekend.
A few hours later and daylight starting to fade, I was famished and asked Aaron if we could go ahead and grab food. I noticed that my car was the only one in the parking lot.
