Chapter Ten Ana I lay on the floor of my bedroom, my face pressed against the cold wood. Every time I tried to draw a full breath, the skin on my back felt like it was being sliced open all over again. It was so hard for someone like me. Without a wolf, I didn't have the gift of fast healing. I didn't have the magic that made wounds disappear in a few hours. For a lupa, or a wolf-less girl like me, the pain stayed. It burned and throbbed, reminding me of every lash of the whip and every shard of glass that had pierced my knees. I couldn't even stand up.
