Mia's Plan

1008 Words
Mia's Monday morning began with a frantic scramble against time, her alarm clock failing to wake her from the depths of her sleep until it was nearly too late. With her heart pounding in her chest, she quickly gathered all her belongings and rushed out the door, not even stopping for breakfast that her Mom prepared for her. The echo of her hurried footsteps punctuating the stillness of the early morning air. With the sun barely shining to the horizon, she finally reached towards the school gate, with her quick footsteps in each passing moment. Mia's breath caught in her throat as she collided with someone unexpectedly, she was very surprised by the unexpected encounter. "Good Morning, Mia!" Eric's cheerful greeting cut through the early morning haze, his smile as bright as the sun that struggled to break through the clouds. Mia forced a smile and replied, "Oh, Eric, Good morning." Her voice choked with a hint of embarrassment and awkwardness as she was fumbling for the right words to say. To her surprise, Eric took Mia's bag and books from her hands and gestured her to walk with him to their classroom. Together, they made their way to the classroom, their footsteps falling into a synchronized rhythm as they passed by the bustling hallways of the school. As they walked, Mia's thoughts drifted back to the decision she had made last Friday night. She can feel the heavy weight on her shoulders like a burden she couldn't even shake, and a weighty choice that now hangs over her like a dark cloud. She longed to tell Eric about her decision, but she couldn't bring herself to tell him due to her confused feeling of her own uncertainty. Throughout the morning, Mia was lost in her thoughts, gazing out the window, trying to pay attention in class while trying to figure out the best way to distance herself from Eric without hurting him. But every time she looked at him, her heart melted by his warm smile and kind gestures which made it even harder for her to go through with her plan. But before she could summon her courage to approach Eric about telling him what's on her mind, the sky above opened up, unleashing a very heavy rain upon the school grounds. Eric noticed Mia's disappointment due to the rain, so he offered her a ride home. "It's pouring outside, Mia. Please, let me give you a ride home." He said with a concerned look on his face. Eric's offer of a ride home was a welcome relief for Mia from the tempestuous weather. Though Mia hesitated to accept, she looked deeply into Eric's eyes and she could see the face of his unwavering kindness. With an unwilling nod, she accepted his offer, knowing that her plans can wait for another day. As they drove home, the steady rhythm of rain against the windshield provided a soothing backdrop to their easy conversation. In the warmth of the car, Mia found herself laughing hard and having jokes with Eric. In his presence, she temporarily felt numb about the weight of her worries on her shoulders. The tension between them slowly fades with each passing mile. When they arrived at Mia's house, Eric asked for Mia's number. His request completely caught her off guard, but his earnest gaze was searching for her sweet response. Without hesitation, Mia agreed, her heart fluttering in her chest as she dictated her number. It was a silent testament to the growing bond between them. As Mia lay in bed, the weight of the day's events pressed down on her chest, each memory replaying in her mind like scenes from a movie. She tossed and turned until she almost fell off her bed. The soft glow of the moonlight casting some shadows on her walls as she wrestled with the uncertainty in her mind and heart. She fought with the decision to distance herself from Eric, torn between safeguarding her heart and the fear of rejecting someone who had only shown her kindness. Eric had been nothing but a supportive and caring person to Mia, his gestures of kindness painting a picture of a person that she can count on. Despite Eric's firm sincerity, Mia couldn't shake the nagging feeling that she was making a mistake by pushing him away when Eric was trying to do is just show Mia a good heart. Questions keep swirling in her mind like a whirlpool, pulling her deeper into confusing uncertainties. Am I only guarding my heart from possible temptation? Am I shutting out the possibility of something real and meaningful? Is this a sign? Why? Why am I feeling this way? Why him? Was Eric truly the person I needed? Or, was I blinded by the temporary happiness? In the silence of the night, with only the rhythmic clock ticking for company, Mia fought with her emotions, seeking clarity between the tangled mess of conflicting feelings. Perhaps, she realized, the answers that she was looking for wouldn't come tonight, but in the quiet moments of reflection that are waiting for her in the days ahead. As the weeks passed by, Mia's world revolved around Eric. She found herself enjoying Eric's company more than she had in a long time, their bond blossoming into something deeper and intense with each passing day. They laughed and talked about everything from school gossips, family problems, to future plans. Their conversations stretching into the late hours of the night as they exchanged texts and calls with growing frequency, and for a moment, all of Mia's doubts and fears melted away. As Mia's connection with Eric began to grow deeper, her communication and relationship with Nathan and Emma slowly changed. The distance between them is widening with each passing day. Mia had changed in ways that she couldn't articulate, her priorities shifting as she found herself inexorably drawn to Eric's side. One day, Eric formally asked Mia out on an official date, and she agreed, having become attached to him.
