On their official date night, Mia and Eric decided to go to a local park. They walked hand in hand, enjoying the beautiful scenery and each other's company. They laughed, shared stories, and had a great time together. As the sun started to set, they found a cozy spot to sit and talk. Eric gave Mia a heart locket necklace with a picture of them in it. Mia couldn't help but feel a strong feeling of connection with Eric.
“Uhm, Eric?” Mia said while deeply looking into Eric's eyes.
“Yeah?” Eric replied.
“Do you know that as each day goes by, I find myself falling harder for you, Eric. I can't help myself but fall in love with you.” Mia sincerely confessed what she truly felt for Eric.
Eric was left speechless by Mia's confession. He smiled, tenderly touched Mia's face, tucked a strand of her hair behind her ear, and pulled her in for a gentle sweet kiss.
“I love you, Mia. I want you in my life so badly,” Eric said sincerely.
Mia smiled, and the two left the park, checking into the nearest hotel where they shared an intimate and romantic night together. As Mia and Eric were wrapped up in each other's arms, they drifted off into the sweetest slumber, their hearts were filled with the warmth of their love. The night was still and calm, and they felt like they were the only people in the world.
4 hours later, Mia woke up and saw Eric peacefully asleep next to her. As she recalled what had happened to them, she was struck with shock, disbelief, and an intense feeling of guilt, realizing that what they had done was wrong. She felt a wave of anxiety wash over her as she checked her phone and discovered that it was already quarter to 10. Her heart raced as she saw multiple missed calls from her Mom and her boyfriend Nathan. Mia quickly got out of bed and got dressed and was in a rush to leave. As Mia was about to leave, Eric woke up.
“Mia? Where are you going?” Eric asked.
“I'm leaving now, Eric. It's already late!” Mia panically replied.
As Mia was about to reach for the door, Eric grabbed her hand and begged her to stay.
“Mia, please stay for a while.” Eric begged Mia.
Mia hesitated for a moment. She knew that she had to leave but the look on Eric's face made her pause.
“I'm sorry Eric. This was a huge mistake.” Mia said with a trembling voice.
“I love you Mia.” Eric said in a low and tender voice.
Mia kissed Eric on his lips goodbye and left him standing by the door. Mia quickly left and as Eric was trying to catch up with her, he was already too late. Mia had already hailed a taxi and quickly got inside.
As the taxi drove farther and farther away from the hotel, Mia couldn't help but watch Eric through the side mirror standing outside the hotel, hoping that Mia would come back. As the taxi drove further and further away, she saw Eric less and less until he was nothing more than a distant figure in her mind.
Mia sat in silence throughout the journey home, lost in thought. Mia gazed out of the window at the passing scenery while thinking all about what happened earlier. She really felt guilty of what she had done and wished that she could go back and change things. Mia's memories led her to think about Nathan. She remembered the time when she and Nathan also shared a romantic night together. She thought about how much she had enjoyed his company and how Nathan made her feel alive and very loved. While Mia thought deeply about everything, she felt very conflicted and confused. Mia knew that she had to make things right with Eric because she couldn't shake the feeling that she had lost something special with Nathan.
When Mia finally arrived home, her mother's face lit up with both anger and relief, as she was extremely worried about her daughter.
“Jesus, Mia! Where have you been?! Why haven't you been answering my calls?! I've been worried sick about you!” Her Mom said with tears in her eyes.
“Relax Mom! Don't overreact! I'm not a baby anymore. I'm 20 years old, I can handle myself.” Mia replied.
“Not a baby? Then tell me, what does a 20 year old girl like you doing outside so late in the evening?!” Her Mom asked in an angry tone.
Mia could see the worry on her mother's face and knew that she had some explaining to do. Mia took a deep breath and began to explain.
“Let me explain Mom. We went to the park early in the afternoon after our half-day class ended, and then we went to my classmate's house for dinner. After dinner, we all worked on our Science project because the deadline is tomorrow, and it's going to be our semester break. My phone was on silent mode, and it was inside my bag. I didn't know that you and Nathan had called until I checked my phone when I was on my way home. I didn't have any time to check my phone earlier because we were so focused on getting our project done tonight. I'm so sorry for making you worry about me Mom. I promise to keep you updated next time.” Mia explained, with full of deception.
Her mother listened carefully to her explanation and felt relieved that her daughter was safe.
“Okay Mia. I'm glad that you're back home safe. Just please let me know where you are next time, okay?”
Mia nodded, feeling guilty for making her Mom worry so much, and she made her Mom believe her lies.
“Of course Mom. I'm sorry again for making you worry.” Mia replied with a sense of regret and guilt in her voice.
Mia's Mom kissed her on her forehead and gave her a big warm hug.
“Go upstairs now sweetie and take a rest.” Mia's Mom said.
Mia smiled and went upstairs. As she lay down on her bed, she called Nathan back. Nathan was also worried sick about her and asked her where she had been.
(Phone Ringing…)
“Where have you been, my love?! I've been calling and texting you several times today. Where were you?” Nathan worriedly asked Mia.
“I went over to Emma's house this afternoon and in the evening, I went to my classmate's house for a group project. We need to finish it because tomorrow is the deadline of the submission.” Mia deceitfully explained.
Nathan believed what Mia told him, but he was somewhat suspicious because, lately, Mia had been giving him the cold shoulder and her communication with Nathan started to change. Nathan doesn't even know the new Mia anymore. She isn't the same sweet old Mia that Nathan once knew before. After their phone call, Mia thought about it again and again. She decided that she needed to cut all the ties between her and Eric for once and for all. Mia was confident that it was the right thing to do. Mia blocked Eric's number to avoid communicating with him and to resist any temptation to respond to his calls or texts during their one-week semester break. Mia is firm in her decision to end all ties with Eric after the break is over.
