Chapter 8 Was it a Promise or a Threat? Ed Clanton had been trying to sell his ranch for longer than he expected, but the wait enlarged the herd and allowed for a better price. He had promised his soon-to-be ex-wife and his daughter that when he sold he would split the money evenly between the three of them and they could all go their separate ways.
