It was well past curfew when Concordia crossed the grounds. Although the half-moon was out behind the clouds, it did little to illuminate the dim path, instead casting threatening shadows that made her pick up her pace and glance over her shoulder more than once. Her breaths dissipated as ghostly wraiths in the chill November air. She shivered. Why hadn’t she waited for Lieutenant Capshaw to escort her back? Pride? Fatigue?
