Chapter one - Arrival

-DANE- I sat comfortably in the backseat as the driver drove into the town slowly. I could've taken a flight but I wanted to come by land to observe and mark locations. It is ten o'clock at night and the roads were quiet. I wondered why I wasn't sighting any patrols despite the knowledge of mythical creatures. DranesEverfield, a town which humans detested the existence of certain beings lived silently with these creatures that roamed around and killed anyone of suspicion they found, but desert the streets at night knowing its land is filled with woods, swamps and lakes which are suitable for crimes. Stop I said telepathically to the driver. He was already in a trance by my compulsion and I found his help useful. I'll have to dispose of him tonight however. I can't leave any traces of my own existence, at least for now. I came down the backseat with the car parked just at the start of the bridge. The sight of a human standing at the bank of it unsettled me, was this person attempting suicide? I frowned with displeasure. This town which cared for human lives had people who wanted to take this life they called sacred cause of the vile treatments they offered. I was angry. No. Revolted. If anyone was to die, I want to be the one to do it. If you're worthless, the least you can do is die by my hands, it's more fulfilling than being useless. I walked up to him silently, I didn't want him to acknowledge my presence just yet. With his head sunk like a defeated soldier and hands stretched to the side, I heard him mutter something before lunging himself forward. With a sway of my hand, I gripped on the linen of his shirt and pulled him back roughly to the solid ground. He was visibly shocked and scared. I could just kill him but seeing his anger and burning desire for death stopped me. What good will it do killing a low life anyway? He staggered back quickly, falling to the ground when I took a step forward to him and crouched, my left hand supported by my knee which wasn't touching the ground and fingers to my chin. I stared at him. "Little boy, why would you want to commit suicide?" I asked with the best imitation of someone concerned though my voice didn't portray it. He looked at me terrified attempting to back away. Petty things. What could you actually be scared of, for someone who was about to end his life seconds ago. Death? I chuckled quietly. Back to my question, he didn't answer. I wanted to touch him but didn't want to get my hand filthy so I leaned forward instead. "Do you want to live?" I asked him. He couldn't respond but I understood. Anyone who saw me will be influenced by my aura. "Don't be afraid. I won't hurt you. Speak." I assured him. I was met with silence once again and sighed. Maybe I should've let him die. "I'll give you the power to live again if you wish for it. Give you a purpose....what is it you desire?" I didn't give him a chance to speak this time as I continued. "Is it money? Is it death? Is it revenge?" I change my facial expression saying that word giving him a side look with my brow raised. Maybe I should use him as a scapegoat. Maybe I should use him to pass my message. Maybe I shouldn't move quietly after all. I turned my back to face him. "Go." I said to him. "Go. Don't attempt this again, find a purpose for your life. I won't kill you, but in return you will pass a message, to the Uncar clan. "Give me what I ask or there'll be a rain of blood." They're in the popular city bar. I'll be there." He looked at me scared and confused. I laughed, anyone will think I'm crazy. This brat wanted to end his life without a second thought and is here fearing for that very life. He didn't know who I was but was scared regardless. "And I won't kill you." I said after and watch him scurry away. I turned standing in an attiser facing the moon and sensing his movements, he was going in the right direction. He believed me. Maybe this city won't be a fun place after all. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * I walked into the bar, my shoulders hit a plastic plant representing a mistletoe with a bell which rang as I stepped in. I ran my eyes across the bar spotting mischievous glances before walking in while turning a blind eye to the sight. Others seemed not to care minding their business, they didn't even know someone has arrived. I made my way to the countertop and sat on one of the many stools in front of it. "Scotch with ice." I said to the bartender and he took his leave wiping a glass. While waiting, I turned around to observe. This place had its own kink to it. It was brown all through, the inner walls made of bricks and had lights attached to the ceilings, chairs and tables. Seemed like they were appreciating the Eighties. I turned to the pop of an opening bottle. The bartender poured my drink and I gestured with my finger to leave the bottle. I held the tip of the tumbler with my fingers, bringing it close to my mouth as I took in a scent, smiling in awe. They really did have some guts. I acted clueless and went in for a sip. Just then, my eyes illuminated amber and someone hit me freeing my grip on the cup. "I'm sorry." He was quick to apologize. I signalled that it was okay and asked for another glass making it known that the pay for the broken one is on me. A different bartender attended to me. He looked young and fine, better than the first grumpy-looking fat one. He smiled giving me the glass. Pouring more scotch in, I drank and my sensitive ears heard the tick of the clock strike twelve. I breath out filling the glass with some steam. A few customers went out with some chatter. That's when I let loose. "Where is your leader?!" I asked fiercely banging my hand hard on the counter letting my eyes portray what I really was. This place had a sickening vibe. No one answered me till I showed my anger by smashing the head of a waiter on the bar counter, squashing it with one push. The blood of the dead man dripped down slowly from the counter to the ground. That's when I sensed the tension in the room and one finally stood. An ugly looking bulked up male. I didn't find him worthy of my gaze but trailed him with my eyeballs. "He's here, but the leader gave us a firm warning not to let you leave alive." He said to me. I wanted to laugh and call his bluff for his stupidity dawned hard on me. I didn't flinch as the men in the bar surround me three-sixty. I counted them with my eyes. Fifty, great! The whole pack is here. I'd love a slaughter worthy of a fight. I place my fingers to my neck loosening the grip of my tie and unbuttoning the first two buttons. With my chin to the air I passed them a message – Come to me. "Bartender, ensure not to let my glass go dry or you'll be next." I told the young man who served me earlier and he nodded terrified. This should be easy, I can kill them all without moving a muscle, but I'll give them the false hope for victory.
