— Y/N POV — Entering my dorm, I spotted a letter lying on my study desk. I instantly became excited once I saw it was my big sister who was staying at my old school together with my big brother. My fingers brushed the parchment and then opened it, expecting it to bring me joy. Instead, it gave me the exact opposite. My mouth went dry as tears were flowing past my cheeks when I had finished reading the letter. I fell back against the wall and slowly slid down it. My arms wrapped around my knees, pulling them close against my chest and weeping. I was fortunate that my roommates were not there to witness my uncontrollable breakdown. I weakly crawled over to my bed and laid down, snuggling in my blanket to not only warm myself up but to muffle my cries. In the silent atmosphere, I could hear the loud knock on the door and the hinges creaking open. I rolled over on my side so whoever it was could not see my face. "Y/L/N we need to—" Draco was the one talking before shutting up. His voice went soft and I found myself realizing how much I missed hearing when his voice had once gone soft like that. "...what's wrong?" Is Draco actually being nice to me? "Just go," I choked out. The last thing I needed right now was to have a banter with him. "I want to be left alone!" "I'm not going anywhere Y/L... Y/N. Not when you're like this," he said firmly. "GO NOW, MALFOY! I'M NOT IN THE MOOD TO DEAL WITH ANY OF YOUR BULLSHIT RIGHT NOW!" I screamed at him, jumping out of bed and pointing my index finger at the door. He started walking towards me and grabbed my arm. His hand tightened around my wrist like he was trying to stop my shaking state. I fought back with as much strength as I could muster. I threw every insult I could think of at him, while all my attempts to escape his grasp and to force him out all ended up failing. My emotions were in upheaval and, to add to the mixture, he had pulled me into a warm embrace. I kept meekly hitting his chest, trying to get him to let go of me. He only pulled me in closer and tighter. I gave up and broke down. We both sunk to the ground within each other's arms. Draco said, soothingly, "Just let it out." I wrapped myself securely around him and released it all with one agonizing scream against his hard chest. I let myself grieve as he mumbled phrases like, "It's going to be OK, you're going to be better," and "I've got you." Out of all the people I expected to be there for me in my darkest times, it was not Draco Malfoy who I expected to be the light. Yet here he was and I was actually enjoying his presence and felt safe in his strong arms. "Draco..." I mumbled. All he did was hum, signalling me to go on and that he was listening. His chin rested against the top of my head and he continued to stroke my back. "Thank you," were the only coherent words that could come out of my tight throat. I looked him dead in the eyes to let him know I was serious. "Er- Do you want to...tell me what happened?" he asked in a gentle tone. Being mentally drained, all I did was shake my head. He nodded his head to show he understood me and let it be. He stood up, helping me to stand back on my feet, gently placing me on the bed, and covering me up. When I felt myself wrapped in the blanket, I again turned on my side for him not to see any more of my suffering. — Draco's POV — In all honesty, I hated seeing Y/N like this. My heart ached once I saw her face stained with tears and reddish from sobbing. I might not have known her for that long, but this was no time for the banter we usually went through. She did not deserve the pain she was going through. She was always so strong and to see her weak was devastating. I sat on the ground, holding her close and whispering reassurances. I was not the best at comforting people, but I am trying my best right now. After she laid down, I saw a letter on the ground. I could not stop myself and I did not mean to be nosy, yet read it. Dear Y/N, My dearest sister, I have told you I would owl you with only good news, however I am afraid it is the opposite and has to be said. Josh is gone. He was killed last night. I am so sorry I could not tell you this in person and comfort you. Just remember I am always one owl away and you can pour out all your feelings on me. I love you so much. Stay strong, little sister. Love, Jess Regret piled into my stomach when I finished reading the letter. I did not know who Josh was to Y/N. What I did know was that his death had caused her immense pain and I could not leave her alone in such a state. Not right now. She needed someone and if that person had to be me, so be it. I made my way over to her bed and carefully laid down beside her. I snaked up my arms around her waist to try and comfort her. That should let her know I was here and would not let go. She instantly rolled over and wrapped her arms around me again. I slowly traced circles around her back. It was not too long before she fell asleep and I chose not to move for fear of waking her from her slumber. She looked so peaceful, away from the grief she deeply suffered even for just a brief moment. I was not that much of an asshole to not let her be. She also needed to rest and with that I felt my drowsiness taking over. The last thing I could remember was my arms cloaked around her and I almost felt like I never wanted to let go... — Y/N POV — A yawn escaped my lips as I opened my heavy eyes, freezing when I felt myself wrapped in someone's arms. Confused, I looked to my side and saw Draco sleeping and all my memories from the night before were unlocked. "Uh- Draco," I murmured, swallowing down the lump in my throat. I shook him harder when he remained fast asleep. "Draco! Wake up already." "Leave me alone...go back to sleep, Pansy," he grumbled, pulling me tighter, which set me off even more. Maybe I was being irrational, but I did not give a single damn at the moment. I could feel my face redden in anger, hearing him talking about another girl in my bed. That's f****d up. I threw his arm off me and shoved him out of bed. He grunted when he hit the floor with a loud thump. "What was that for?" Malfoy hissed, glaring daggers at me. "I don't know, maybe because you're talking about another girl in my bed," I stated, crossing my arms over my chest. He kept silent. The blonde boy stood up and grabbed the lower part of my legs, dragging me to where he was. He was standing in between my legs and I sat at the edge of my bed. I forced myself to move my head up to see him looking down at me, smirking. He slowly reached his hands to both sides of my face then, with the use of his thumb, dragged out my bottom lip. "Now, babe, don't get all mad like that at me. I made a mistake, can't you forgive me?" he said in his husky morning voice. Damn, that voice. I whipped my head away from him and barked, "Don't call me babe, Drachoe!" I felt the cold metal of his silver and golden shiny rings against my throat, pulling me up from bed. He slowly leaned his head in, making me think he was going to kiss me. Did he honestly think I was going to kiss him back...? but those lips seemed so... With only mere inches away from each other's lips, he had this look on his face that looked like he was suppressing his amusement. Then he laughed his arse off. "You honestly think I'd kiss you outside of all the people? Such a gullible mud—" That same word. That glint in his eyes made every piece of fiber in my entire body loathe him. Dammit! I had a moment of weakness. Never again. I would not let him finish his words so I shoved him away with all my force, feeling an old flame inside of me being reignited. I shoved him roughly against the door with his back facing towards me, grabbing his wrist and pulling it tightly behind his back. I then pulled him off the door, opened it and shoved him outside of my dorm. "SHOVE OFF, MALFOY, AND GO TO HELL!" I hollered and slammed the door in his face, silently hoping it had hit him. Suddenly, I felt exhausted and let myself slide down the door, my back against it. I rubbed my hands down my face before sighing. I would have just burst into tears at this point, but I felt like I'd already drained all of it yesterday. I got up and decided a shower would probably take my mind off these things, though my chest felt heavy. I neither had the energy nor care to check myself in the mirror and changed into my robes. I glanced at the opened letter lying on the floor after finishing up packing what I required for the day. "Josh wouldn't want to see you like this," I whispered to myself. "Be strong for him. He would want you to succeed, make him proud." Saying those words was easier than acting on them. Either way, I had to try and I would keep standing back up every time I was knocked down. I could do this, I internally thought, my eyes shut tight to focus on my words. Exiting the dorm, I was pleased to see the git was no longer there. I walked alone, keeping my head down low to avoid any attention. I stopped for a brief moment and looked up at the clouded sky. "I love you, Big Brother. I'll see you again someday," I mumbled under my breath, feeling a small smile creep in just imagining if he were here and all the wonderful things he would say. He was the main reason I was able to build up such confidence. I should not disappoint him after all he had done. Despite my preferred methods being not to his taste, it was the only way I could think of. I made my way to class, ignoring the heavy feeling in my heart as I convinced myself there was no other reason than my dear brother's death. I will do that.
