Azrael’s POV
After I explained what I wanted to do to my mate’s father and brother, I sent her off quickly to get her out of the area. She hadn’t made it far when I smelt the stench of garbage and raw sewage. My anger resurfaced as the thought of rogues attacking on the day I became alpha. I shifted quickly as I made my way out front. The rogues were attacking the other alphas but there was too many of them. Too many to be acting on their own. Rogues usually travelled in groups of 3-5 wolves. There was over 30 wolves in the area attacking and Rage released a deafening growling and began attacking. The rogues then began to attack me as if they had forgotten about everyone else. They came with a purpose and as soon as father left I would get this pack in better shape. Good thing I was an alpha. If I wasn’t, I would be dead waiting for them to help me.
I was thrashing at their faces and biting their throats. Some of them ended up catching my paw to their stomachs as my sharp claws sliced through easily. I heard bones cracking to the side of me so someone must have shifted. I didn’t need help taking them down but one had just bitten into my back as I saw a large Hazel colored wolf came and rammed itself into the the rogues and snatched the one off my back. The smell of warm honey wafted into my nostrils and told me it was Jaylyn.
She chose to stand beside me and fight while everyone stood there and watched. This pushed me to fight harder until we came down to the last two wolves who tried to escape. I looked in her direction as if she knew what I was thinking and we both dashed in the direction of the wolves.
I’ve always hunted wolves whether for trespassing or because I simply enjoyed the thrill. Today was different, killing along side my mate was exhilarating. The way our fur rubbed together while drenched in bl**d left me with a yearning for her that I could not comprehend. I don’t think I’ll be able to let her leave. My wolf began to whimper at the thought and she heard it. She began to rub her snout in the neck of my wolf and Rage wanted to mark her right then. With almost every bit of strength I had, I used it to keep him at bay. We could mark her yet and definitely not outside in the dirt.
I nudged her and started to walk back to the pack house, stopping a few inches to signal her to follow me. We made it back to the area of the ceremony and met the guest packing their things to leave in a hurry. All of them wore an expression on their faces of pure anger. I was already pissed off already so I couldn’t care less about their issues. I shifted and grabbed a pair of shorts that I kept near by.
I looked over to my mate who had also shifted back but her brother quickly ran to her side with a dress for her to wear. I was close enough to hear their conversation as well.
“Jay we have to leave now.” Her brother said hurriedly.
“Why what’s wrong Jase? And where’s everyone else?” My mate asked.
“Our pack has been attacked my rogues. Not only us, every one of the alphas that were present had their packs attacked.”
“WHAT?! Is mom okay?!”
“Yes she is, she’s the one who contacted us Jay.”
Midway through their conversation I growled as the anger rippled through me. Rogues don’t behave this way, someone was controlling them. Someone had to be controlling them.
Father appeared from wherever he had been hiding. I looked at him with annoyance clear on my features.
“Alright everyone, get out of my territory before I treat you all as trespassers and sl*ce the throats of your spawns.”
I rolled my eyes at the man standing before me. My hatred for him began to grow and I wanted him gone.
I left the clearing started to make my way up to my room but her scent had drifted it’s way into my nose once more. I followed this time and met Jaylyn entering the room where they stayed. I hadn’t smelt her father or brother anywhere near so I entered the room. She was surprised to see and I quickly enveloped her into my arms one more time before she left. I buried my head in the crook of her neck and inhaled deeply. I placed a feather light kiss on the spot that I would mark her and shuttered under my touch.
“Azrael?” She spoke softly.
“Yes Jaylyn?” I responded with a muffled sound.
“How long is it going to take for you to come for me?”
“It won’t be long, as soon as father leaves, I’ll come for you.”
I raised my head to look into her hazel colored eyes. Strangely they matched the color of her wolf. I saw her eyes drift to my lips and as if on instinct, mine drifted to hers. I lowered my head and placed a lingering kiss on her lips and sparks exploded between us. Her soft lips were molded against mine and the thought of leaving her pained me. We separated for the sole need to catch our breaths.
“Don’t take too long Azrael.”
“I won’t baby, I mean it”
She blushed at the sound of the name.
I gave her one last hug and placed a kiss on her forehead. I then left the room with a goal in mind as I headed to find my beta and gamma. I stopped in my tracks and reroute my direction. I headed back outside toward the area of the ceremony. Only a few of the guest remained. And I found the Beta and Gamma burning the rogues in a pile. I turned in the direct of my mother and I felt a lump in my throat. I never tried to help her. I did nothing to save her and I would would have to live with that regret for the rest of my life. I will keep my promise to her until the day I leave this earth. I never cried for as long as I can remember but lifting her lifeless and pale body, I felt my eyes began to sting and become blurry. I closed them tightly to compose myself. Once I had pushed all of my emotions back, I began to walk towards the fire that was burning and placed her in it. I watched as he skin began to char and made a decision that could cost me everything. I was going to kill my father.
