The weather alert came through at four PM.
"Severe storm warning for King County. Heavy rain, high winds, possible flooding. Residents advised to stay indoors. The storm is expected to intensify through the evening."
Harper was at the Adriatic reviewing the final installation of the ballroom chandeliers when her phone buzzed with the notification. She looked out the window at the darkening sky, watching clouds roll in from the Sound.
"We should wrap up," she told the installation crew. "Get out before this hits."
The workers packed their tools and left quickly, eager to beat the storm home. Harper stayed behind to lock up, making a final walk through the building to ensure all windows were secured.
She was checking the basement when the lights flickered.
