Harper sat in the empty Adriatic ballroom, Vanessa's words circling her mind like vultures.
She'd tried to dismiss them as manipulation. Bitter lies from a woman scorned. But doubt had taken root, and now Harper couldn't stop analyzing every moment of her relationship with Sebastian.
Had he ever pursued her without the contract as motivation? Had his feelings been real or just convenient?
Her phone buzzed again. Sebastian's fifth call in an hour. She ignored it.
Instead, she called the one person who might tell her the truth.
"Claire? Can we meet? I need to ask you about Sebastian and Vanessa."
Thirty minutes later, Claire arrived at the Adriatic carrying coffee and concern.
