Lenora's POV
I watched as the doorknob turned, my heart racing. I darted my eyes around, trying to find a place to hide. Without thinking, I rushed to the curtain and hid behind it, holding my breath. If he stepped in, I knew he would find me.
Raven was not a silent mover. She could rarely hide her powers. “Your Majesty, the elders just arrived,” I heard a guard say to him.
The door, which was slightly opened, was shut, and I heard retreating footsteps. Quickly, I got out of the curtain and the room. A few steps away from the room, I heard his thunderous voice. “Someone was in my room!”
I quickened my pace, heading for the bathroom. I didn't want to be caught and, with Raven still out, anyone would suspect something was up. Shutting the door of the bathroom, I sat on the ground, trying to calm my nerves.
“You need to go back, Raven,” I said, in-between my ragged breath.
“No,” she said curtly.
“Why do you have to be stubborn all the time? Would you rather we die? Mum had told me not to reveal who I was. I can't flop now and end up being killed,” I said, glancing at the door.
I could hear footsteps. “Please, Raven” I pleaded.
She was quiet for a long time. I knew she had not gone away just yet. I could feel her. Plus, it was an effort we were meant to put together to get it to happen. “Raven” I almost yelled at her.
“Lenora!” Elizabeth called.
Shit. She must have heard me. “Raven please” I begged.
“I will only leave if you agree to take us back to our pack soon and need to find out, mate,” she said.
I didn't want to agree to any of it. “Lenora,” Elizabeth called once more, her steps getting closer.
“Fine, okay? Just go,” I said, shutting my eyes to get her back to the void.
I got up, dusting my clothes and turned the knob, flinging the door open to meet with the head maid. I bowed, trying to act normal. Elizabeth looked over my shoulder into the bathroom. She must have heard me.
“Who were you talking to?” she asked, her eyes suspicious.
I shook my head. “No one”
She pushed past me and into the bathroom, looking around. She sucked in her breath and turned to me once she found nothing. “His Majesty found your scent in his room,” she scolded.
I lowered my gaze. “I apologize. I lost track of time”.
She held my chin harshly, raising my head to meet hers. “I don't like anyone ruining my schedule. Because of you, I was almost killed. If this happens again, be rest assured I will kill you with my hands before I am killed”.
I nodded, acting scared. As much as I knew everyone treated slaves however they chose in this mansion and could be killed, no one could do that to me unless I allowed it or the Lycan King. Her threats were nothing.
A few days went by, and I have not come across His Majesty. I was glad by this news, but I could rarely be contended with it. My body felt as though I had been pressed hard by something heavy. I was weak. This was not a new occurrence, but it was also sickening.
Raven being pushed away from being detected was sucking me dry, another reason people felt I was truly a weak omega. Occasionally, I would have to pull her out, but that did not last long as every day there was something to do and quickly without mistakes.
I didn't want to live this life, but was there any other way? The moon goddess would have provided a solution, if truly there was. Or was this a punishment for me? Maybe I should have acted five years ago instead of running away.
Rubbing my temple to get rid of a massive headache, I shut the door of the study. I had just finished dusting it. I wondered why it was always so dusty every day. “Slacking again, I see?” Elizabeth asked.
“I just-”
She raised her hand, stopping me from explaining. “Talking to you slaves is annoying. Join the others. We are to serve His Majesty's meal in minutes”.
Her words made me crease my brows. “Why? I am a cleaner and don't serve his meals.”
The words flew out of my mouth without my brain registering it in time. I covered my lips, bowing immediately. “I apologize for my loose tongue. I was only confused, as I was not assigned that,” I said.
She sighed. “It is an order from the Lycan King. Move!” she commanded.
With trays in our hands, we walked into the dining room, with Lycan King Rhys at the head of the table. His eyes followed each of us as we gently placed the dishes on the table. I had never set my eyes on the Lycan King before today.
From what I had pictured him to be, he was completely different. He was handsome and hot. There was a small scar just above his right eye, but it did nothing to ruin the beauty of his face. His gray eyes followed each maid with an intimidating gaze.
His aura made him more fierce. His long brown hair cascades down his back, stopping inches after his shoulder. Despite my resentment against him, I felt my body acting up. There was a pull I could barely describe towards him.
“Get your act together, Lenora. He destroyed your home,” I told myself.
We stood at the side in a single line, waiting for his next command. He pointed at two maids to serve his meal. They bowed and quickly went into it. His finger points at me, and he gestured for his wine. I did so as fast as I could.
I wanted to be out of this room. I did not like how I felt around him. He gestured with his hand, dismissing us. We bowed and were headed out when he spoke for the first time. “Not you”
All eyes went to him, and my heart skipped a beat when his gaze was locked on me. I watched the others leave. Raven was safely tucked away, so why was I being called back? Did he know I was the one in the room the other day? Or did he find me out?
He stood up, gesturing for the guards to leave too. This only made me scared. As he approached, I locked eyes with him. Trying to understand what was in his mind, but I dropped it when I remembered what I was posing as and who I was standing before.
He stood before me, his scent filling my nostrils. He held my neck, his fingers pressing hard around it. “Who are you?” he asked.
